Vince I see you on the MAPA list as well and I dont know if the information you are getting about flying the intercooler 231 is correct. There is actually an MAPA article, I believes it was in their test flight of the 231 and it clearly states, if intercooled fly it like it was a 252. My standard takeoff is 36 inches when you do the calculations with the turboplus intercooler. It was on there old website, cant find it mow, but if you call them I'm sure they can dig it out.

Google seem to be flagging alot of site lately. The same happen to another major site in Canada here last week, took a couple of day to clear it up. If you just type in the address there doesn't seem to be any trouble.

I have a turbo plus intercooler and it's understanding they are still being produced. Www.turboplus.com

I have an EI UBG-16 and it started to do the same thing about two weeks ago. I call EI, great people I might add, and the gent told me some of the older instruments can do this a low voltages (he was taking abouy 8 volts or so) or as suggested above it is a ground issue each external to the device or internal.. Suggest ucking it up to an external 12 volt to determein if it is ext or internal ground issue, which I haven't done yet.

I did the same thing to my plane last year. Paint was 12 years old and I thought it looked fine. Was feeling the need to do some one day so I went to Napa Auto and purchased some 3m rubbing compound and buffer pad. Expensive the cound in canada was $70, though I think its half of that in the USA. I used only half of it on the cowl and wings, this stuff was great. The paint looks like new. Took a good 2 hours per wing just for the surfaces. http://www.amazon.com/3M-05954-Super-Duty-Compound/dp/B000N9OE1E/ref=sr_1_3?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1365699188&sr=1-3&keywords=rubbing+compound+3m

I guess this is quite common, I mave it on my cowling as well. I had been repaired before, not correctly and within two flights had returned. I think the MSCs actual have a repiar kit that with strengthen the cowling. I will do something to mine when I get the plane repainted.

Looks good, I like the after shots, white work well, I might send the shots to my A&P before he spend 10 grand just trying to get the other thing fixed. How do you find people in the Gallery, I cant seem to figure it out.

Jlunseth, I like the conversation above but I would be interested in seeing some picture of your panel. My engine monitor roled over yesterday and died (UMG16 I believe) and I'm thinking about getting a 930. I was hoping to wait for my new GPS and do both, but Avidyne seems to be taking there time on that one.

So I replaced the weather stripping around the vent window yesterday and in the process I dropped one of the outside screws for the window inside the ariplane. I must have looked for an hour but could not find it, any idea of where I would get another on of these, Its a slot screw with a nipple like that passes though the window.

Rainman I can only say my tit would go beyond 1650, (I know the poh states 1725 as the max for 30 seconds) but I don't want to go there. I just do the big pull of the red knob and then perhaps rich to smooth. I guess use the tit then, I keep it at 1575 or lower if I'm not in a rush.

Just dealt with the Merlyn people last month and have to say they are a great group of people to deal with. If you dont have one you should consider it, as said above its a must in my book for a 231.

I just purchased a new seal from Aircraft doors and Seal for my small window vent on the pilot side. Mine might be orginal and look bad as is hard as rock and pieces are falling off. How do I remove the old seal without damaging the window (scraping or chemically removing it). Any suggests would be appreciated.

Seth I have an ez35 as well, it didn't come with the airplane and I paid way to much for it, from the previous owner, had no clutch and the engine is garbage. Point of the story is I was putting the plane in the hangar one night and almost ran it into the back of the hangar, I called the EZ people and for $80 they sent me the cable and a belt to put the clutch system back together, way to much for what it was, but know the clutch does work. If I where do it all over again I think I would go the lawn tractor route.

Does failure to top off fuel tanks eventually cause fuel leaks?
FBCK replied to Dale's topic in General Mooney Talk
Yes I have the monroys and they do as you described, if I fill the mains to full, after 5 minutes or so there will be an inch or two the the outboards, but that leaves about 6 inches dry in the outboard tanks, which I never fill and you are correct I always have more fuel than I think, but it bette to have too much then not enough. It's difficult to get an accurate reading on the fuel when it going from inboard to outboard. I do have the Monroy manual, but I don't care to take my ruler out and measure the outboards. -

I also have long range tanks and had a real seal done last year by Paul in Willmar. I also never really used the long range tanks, you can go for 6 hours with the regular tanks, the longest I have ever sat in the plane was 5 hours and I needed to get up and stretch after that. I asked Paul about removing the long range tanks as they rarely had fuel in them and I didn't,t want to have to do another reseal in 5 years or something of that nature, Paul said as long as the plane is hangared it shouldn't,t happen, for the reason quoted above. -
Your system is a lot different then my 231 cowl flap system, but I will add this. When I purchased my 231 a couple years back I had a hard time openning and closing the flaps, I had to apply way to much presure and it was only a mater of time before something broke. Took it to a couple of shops that didn't know Mooneys and came out the same. I was down in Wilmars to have my tank resealed and had them look at it, all was fine on the way home. Just guessing here but if the "rigging is not properly set it may be taking way to much effort for the motor to move the flaps. I would be surprised if you can have that motor rebuilt, that what I would do, that system is way beter then the manual flaps in my book.
-
I have the same issue on my 231, its been to Wilmars and another shop that knows Mooneys, they all looked at it and tell me everything is in order. I fine the the force needed to move the wheel is excessive, but only when its cold. I had to have my trim servo motor overhauled last year and it just occured to me that the force required may have had something to do with it.. It could be this is just Mooney, a few people have mentioned it as an issue. Funvee you should come to Calgary it was 5C today :]

I'm having 12 put in next week, from my champion massive so I will let you know. After 120 hours on the champions , my engine started to stumble. I don't know if it is the plugs but I didn't,t like what I was seeing, I will report back.

I have one of those 231 radars and will confirm, it doesn't work very well. I'm tring to figure out how to have it removed and heal the scare on the wing ( I don't want some ugly sheet metal work).

Did this trip last summer and made the mistake of hangaring the airplane at McMurray Aviation. Charged me $180 per night and had a disel engine running beside the airplane all day, the plane was covered in a black crap, didn't see it until I got home. M, I would be really interested in taking a look at your Aspen, I going to be doning some panel work latter on this year.

Jetdriven, you seem to know a little about paint, so, what would be the best way to strip the paint of the caps (what chemical) to get ready for a polished look?
-
Has anbody done a comparson of the EDM 900 vs the EDM 930, they look like they have the same functionality to me, I'm going to upgrade later this year and I have seen several posts here recommending the 930.

There was an Mooney with picture here the other day and the caps where striped to down to the metal, I thought they looked great and was going to do the same.
