  1. My vote is for the 796 too. I have the GTN 750 tied into the 796 and if your flying an approach it's good to look over and see the runway confirm your CDI. Not to mention that the touch screen is very intuitive and you have the GDL options now and in the future.
  2. I think I'd ask them what work do they do to the engine and what do they claim for performance for this improvement? Do they have proof? How much do they want for the upgrade
  3. Would they be certified in the US? This isn't going to be good for Kerrville although it's probably the only way that they could of survived and they are called Mooney International now.
  4. Good going Mike, There's nothing like the 201. I fly to Ocala or Daytona 2 to 3 times a year from CYKF and have only done it straight through twice because of favorable tailwinds. Most times I could fly without a stop but feel I like a break and want to take advantage of cheaper fuel. Being Canadian makes stopping for customs mandatory too when flying south. I like to go up to 8-12,000 feet to both get out of the way of local traffic and get around weather. I usually flight plan for 9.5 GPH and 155 knots. That will give me almost 6 hours flying with IFR reserves. The higher altitude also helps with lower fuel consumption. Have you tried different MP and prop settings to see if you can go faster on the same fuel burn? Here are 2 good examples of the last flight to and from Florida http://flightaware.com/live/flight/CGMYJ Steve
  5. These are great points and I can't agree with you more Marauder. Without the integrity it only hurts Mooney and the owners.
  6. Hi Andy Maybe try KSMooniac (Scott) first. He has a M20J that he is salvaging and possibly has the parts available. Secondly if you use Plane Plastics make sure they have the right parts. Twice I've ordered from them and had to send parts back because they were either the wrong part and didn't fit right or they sent me the wrong model year. The last time they shipped it overnight when I asked for ground and it cost considerably more. Steve
  7. Hi Ned, Somehow I missed your comment from all the way back in 2011. My aunt took the picture and did some photo shopping. This was taken in Ocala. She was on the ground and managed to get a level perspective on it. It was three phones ago but I'll take a look because I believe I have a picture of your plane when we were practicing.
  8. It's not required anymore in Canada for the PPL but it is for the commercial. I think it's to bad too that they stopped doing spin training. You learnt so much and it was fun.
  9. As far as Dr. Chen buying Mooney rather then starting a new company or buying another manufacturer I think its a very smart move. Mooneys have a great reputation and are known to be fast, efficient, very safe, impressively inventive and just super cool.
  10. In the next 5 years China is building 85 new major airports, in the next 20 years their civil aviation plans are to increase 78%. This doesn't include feeder airports as well as smaller aircraft for them. Not only that but China will have hubs for international travel. Look how many businesses are either being bought into or bought by the Chinese so international travel is certainly going to increase. I know they have quite a few Chinese students at our flight school so probably other schools as well and with just with the thought of teaching students in the their home country with their own domestically built aircraft (my guess would be Cirrus also) and that learning to fly would become more accessible to career pilots as well as those with disposable income.
  11. Just installed an Aera 796 and am bumping the ad. Call if any questions, Steve
  12. There's a manufacturer on Beechtalk that does some very nice work and he's interested in doing Mooneys. And some of his hoses come in different colours. Gee-Bee Aeroproducts N77GB@MSN.COM || 800-556-3160 PST
  13. That's taking advantage of tailwinds!
  14. What's the cost to repair Amelia? I had a price from Sarasota for a Aspen Pro 1000 of $12,500 with installation since I felt that the G500 was overkill for my plane.
  15. I know that Buffalo is open during the weekend however I'd probably check CBP's website for the closest airport and phone to see if an agent will meet you there afterhours. I've had pretty good luck that way. Steve
  16. Tim there was a B55 owner I met at Fun and Sun who was selling his Coleman with TKS installed. If you haven't bought already I can send you his number. I believe he had new engines installed in the recent past also. BTW don't pay any attention to the negative posters on here. I think it helps everyone in GA who shares information Steve
  17. Looks great. What's the cost and what is needed to interface with the glasses?
  18. Sold, Thanks Garmin Area 510 with bare wire kit to connect to a MFD, GNS or GTN. Everything including the original package is included.Very good condition and will ship to US or Canada. $600.00
  19. We need more Moonies in Canada, Especially really fast ones! You'll love the GTN. If your ever in the KW area let me know and I'll buy lunch.
  20. I agree with you on this. I just went through some re-currency with them and another school and can't believe how much I needed it.
