  1. Learning and earning your IR gives you knowledge of weather, navaids, procedures, accuracy both in flying and planning, opportunity to experience learning with someone that has been there and has that experience (in most cases). You definitely become a better pilot and learn more about yourself as well as what to stay away from and what is safe. I believe it's still 150 hours before you can get your IR rating so my guess is that they put that restriction there to obtain more skill. Currency is great but not the same as more knowledge. I would say wisdom and good choices will help keep you out of cemeteries. Why do insurance companies lower your rates with an IR rating?
  2. Hey Robert, Here's a link to the FAA site about importing back into the US. http://www.faa.gov/licenses_certific...international/ I think I'd look for someone or shop that has done this before to stop any inexperience problems. Maybe do a google search to see if you can find an IA with experience also. The AOPA should be able to help also. Just curious, where in Canada are you importing the plane from? If it's near Toronto you could also ask Weber's in Pennsylvania.
  3. Would it be possible that your oil could be getting diluted with fuel? Do you get oil analyses?
  4. I believe they're only available on Beech's Bonanza A and B 36's but also on other singles like the Piper Saratoga's and Cessna 210's. I'm guessing that the Moony leading edge wouldn't work because it's more of a laminar flow
  5. Nice looking Don and very functional, Good idea about having the 2 AH on the same level. What extra functions are you using on the GTX 330ES that you wouldn't get on the 650?? Steve
  6. Very similar thing happened to my century IIB. Had our local avionics shop take it out and send it away to Autopilot Central. It was $2500 including labour to remove and reinstall but it's worked perfect since.
  7. I bought some door panels from Plane Plastics and even though they may take some work to make fit properly they look good. The rest of the interior I used the Krylon Fussion paint.
  8. I did my J and I'm very happy with their work too. Have their leather seats and carpet and found they fit pretty well. Had a bit of a time taking out the old carpet and all the glue however. You might consider replacing the insulation with soundex. While I had the interior out I did this and noticed an improvement in both a warmer cab and a bit less noisy.
  9. Which airports have runways and taxi ways salted?
  10. Why did Mooney say the 4 cyl not be a good choice? Is it possible that the 6 cyl was already being used in the turbo arrow also?
  11. I can't believe how well he was able to skid it into a perfect parking position
  12. Our local aircraft painter just finished touching up some cracks in the fibreglass cowl and cowl flaps and painted it using the Mooney paint numbers. The beige and dark brown look good but the lighter brown wasn't even close to the colour shown so he tried to match it but its off. Does anyone know where to get a proper spec for the model year other than the parts book? Thanks
  13. Is there anyone that has a STC for mounting a light on one of the landing gear?
  14. I know that a few other manufacturers have bladders in their plane from the factory but for the $10,000 cost of bladders you could reseal the fuel tanks to their original condition from reputable re-sealing companies. In most cases they've lasted 30 plus years and with the newer sealers and methods they should last longer now and you don't have a weight increase or a decrease in fuel capacity in some cases.
  15. We're very thankful you're here for us. What's your real name by the way?
  16. I've heard the newer installs are more flush and impact speed far less than the older installations. If you ask the installer or CAV can you let us know if it's true? Pictures of the install would be great too! Steve
  17. Was that including installation?
  18. Are the wings still around and the frame at the A&P school?
  19. Proper rigging and aligning the engine by shimming the mounts helped me pickup some speed. I can true out at 159 KTAS at 8K and 10-11 GPH at 2500 RPM .
  20. I believe the JPI pamphlet mentions that it's a app that you pay for.
  21. As a Mooney owner and lover of the aircraft I'd like to say that I'm very thankfull a few people had the foresite for both stopping production and the unnecasary costs in 2008 therefore keeping the company alive as well as now starting Mooney up again. With the amount of intelligent and knowledgable investors now involved with Mooney, it now has a future. They have even more money invested then us, so I'm guessing their going to try to mitigate their risk even more by investing in well thought out future aircraft and business stradegies
