Which starter do you have?
-
Which Skytec starter do you have? I had one that looked similar to the old Delco Remy starter that did a similar thing. It only had 100 hours since install. When I called Skytec they said they no longer used that starter for the Mooney’s. They use the in-line starter now. Once I installed the in-line starter I have had zero issues. I also installed Bogert power cables this year. If you order any make sure of your ground cable. They sent a zero degree rotation and my C needed a 180 degree rotation for the ground wire.

We went to Frankenmuth Michigan a couple of years ago. My wife wants to go back this year. The world’s largest Christmas store is there along with an aviation museum and a brewing museum. Had good German food and beer

I use the Anker with a 30000mAh battery. The charger has a 1a and 2a USB port for direct charging of phones and iPads. The battery allows me the juice to charge 6 or 7 friends phones when the sun isn’t shining. You can even hang it on your backpack and charge as you are walking around.

We have no problem taking a large cooler. The picture shows what I packed last year in our C model and still had room for me, my wife and my 9-yo grandson. We don’t use suitcases as they take up valuable space. We use the heavy duty vacuum bags for our clothes, bedding and towels. We got tired of buying ice and bought the biggest Yeti knockoff (Ozark Trails because I am a CB) that would fit through the door.

I have been using a large cotter pin.

Seat Cam Chewed Up - Replacement Needed
moodychief replied to DualRatedFlyer's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
The focus of this thread has been on the seat cam. With the comment of the seat leaning to the right I would suggest pulling the fabric and checking your seat back. I had a similar problem on one of my seats and it ended up being a broken seat back that needed repaired..:not the cam. Because the seat back was broken, the seat would slip off the cam and severely lean to the right. -
At Treasure Cay there are one-level cottages you can rent with easy access for a wheelchair. There are daily ferry’s from Abacos to Green Turtle, Elbow, and Man-o-war Cays.

Makes me glad I still have my steam gauges. -
I bought my C model out of convenience. It was a Mooney owned by a friend and he was in a position to sell when I was looking to buy thinking I would only have it 3-4 years then move up to a F or J. 1,100 hours later my wife and I are still flying it. It has been the perfect airplane for us as we find 99% of our flights are just two people. Living in Little Rock area we can be a lot of places in little time. Two weeks ago, I flew to Crestview FL via Birmingham, spent the night with friends and was back home by 2:30 pm on Saturday. I have been to Monterey, Maine, all along the east coast, Bahamas and Oshkosh and UP Michigan. Kids live in MO so we fly to Branson 1-2 times a month (have a van parked at KPLK). Since I am still working, this plane has allowed my wife and I to enjoy things that wouldn’t have been possible if we had to drive. People always preach define your mission and buy a plane to fit your mission. The C model has fit our mission. Wouldn’t have minded having an E model. Even though the kids are out of the house you now have to start thinking about the grandkids!

Need help finding replacement 78’ M20J Oil Pressure Gauge
moodychief replied to Drew_Wagner's topic in General Mooney Talk
Call Lasar and see if they have one that will work. I received an email a couple days ago saying they are having 50% off sale on B&D and Sigmatek gauges. -
Looking for brake master cylinder M20C
moodychief replied to TexMooney's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Try Dawson Aircraft Salvage in Clinton Arkansas. They had one or two C models they were parting out back in the fall. -
Is your prop balanced? Do you have 2 or 3-bladed prop?

Folding Mooney M20C/E/F/J/K Bench seat
moodychief replied to piperpainter's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I did the mod when I first saw it many years ago. Came in handy a couple of months ago when my wife wanted to but two Christmas trees at Menards in Branson. -
I fly IFR in most weather...including rain. As far as the paint goes, if you fly in the rain enough it will not only take paint off the leading edge of the prop but also the wing and tail surfaces. Unlike a lot of people, I didn’t buy my airplane to be a beauty queen. I bought it to get me places without worrying about the weather. I can touch up the paint routinely to keep her a thirty footer!!

Actually, this is the AC we use at airports. Table 5-2 shows the chart with the mU values added in. https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/150-5200-30D.pdf

Bryan, I am based at Saline County and could have given you a ride.

I’m still in. Looks like I will be able to fly up and back on Friday. If not, I can still drive. Just let us know the final verdict.

Still planning on attending. Only 1 hour flight or 3 hour drive.

1964 M20C original paint colors and scheme
moodychief replied to Supercop0184's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Here is a black and white from the same brochure showing two paint schemes. Since my tail number is 6561U, I wonder if the original paint scheme for my plane was the one in the foreground. -

At the 2017 Mooney Homecoming I took these pictures of the promotional brochures from a guys personal collection he had on display. Can’t remember his name but he worked at the factory for 25 (+) years and collected all the memorabilia he could over the years. I have a 63 so I don’t know if these work for the 64. -
M20C Difficult to close cabin door
moodychief replied to BrettKS's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I keep a small pair of vice grips next to the front passenger seat. I always brief the emergency procedure using vice grips should the pin break. Actually had to use the vice grips yesterday in 20 degree weather when the pin broke. -
They have new owners now. We just returned a couple weeks ago. Ask for Curtis the Line Manager or email him at FBO@kissimmeejetcenter.com and he will make sure you are treated right. This email goes straight to him and the lady never sees it.

I had a leak a few years ago. After pulling the access panel I found it to be a loose fuel line fitting (fore of the pump at the firewall) that needed tightened. However, the fuel leak traveled down the fuel line and started dripping at the fuel pump originally making me think the fuel pump was leaking. Had to buy a Crows foot to tighten. No problems since.
