  1. My friend has an SR22 G3. It's nice but not blessed with useful load. Prior to that, he had a 210 which was like a SUV. the mooney will either outrun or use less fuel than either, but you do compromise in other areas. BTW I have a '65 Mooney M20C with a johnson bar.
  2. Didn't Bruce Jaeger have some eyeball mods for the vents?
  3. It makes you realize how insignificant you are physically against nature.
  4. IIRC, Jimmy Garrison said 10+ years with a gear up and proper repairs was no big deal. My plane was gear upped in '66.
  5. C'mon dude, it's 2021. Post some pics.
  6. That's what happened to mine. Bad antenna.
  7. Guys with experimental planes are probably licking their chops. Getting good prices on used STEC units if they don't opt for garmin or dynon.
  8. Haha. My dad painted aircraft at the local air for the local air force base, and his car's paint looked like a calico.
  9. Not that I can't afford it, but I don't want the maintenance costs that goes with newer, faster and bigger planes. I'm sure I speak for others on this forum who I know could fly around in nicer planes if they wished. Would I trade planes if ownership costs were the same? Absolutely!
  10. my buddy has a G3 22. It's a nice plane. I've never flown it as PIC, but the cockpit is great. His useful load isn't wonderful, and he averages 165 ish knots which is faster than my mooney but slower than comparable 6 banger mooneys. His annuals are steep. I would grasp my heart at what he pays, but I'm comparing a vintage mooney to a fairly modern cirrus. I don't know how annuals compare with a early 2000s Ovation to a 22 cirrus.
  11. That's happened to me twice. It's usually one of the back ones that's on top of the rail. Hard to see unless you get a good light back there.
  12. Is Halibut code word for "meth"? https://www.newson6.com/story/605235189605120bdcc5d036/homeland-security-arrest-pilot-accused-of-having-more-than-100-lbs-of-meth-on-plane
  13. They had a tfr around atlanta today, so I got to fly even further around bravo. . I heard ATC telling air force one to maintain 11000 and then 8000 before telling them to change frequencies. Kinda cool to hear that. No pics but here's my wacky approach into a non towered airport north of atlanta. They had me flying in a circle until someone landing at another nearby airport landed and cancelled his ifr.
  14. I'm sure there's more to it, but a plane isn't registered to use public roads. Much like my polaris ranger, not street legal.
  15. wow, I wish my plane could get injected with a 230 useful load increase.
  16. I was hoping stec would approve the 3100 for the mooneys. With all the garmins being installed, they're probably less likely to commit now.
  17. I don't see the red x complaints anymore. Hopefully it's been resolved. I personally haven't had any issues on my screens in forever. I really like my aspen displays. I have an stec 50, and they work well together. If you plan to go with a Garmin AP at some point, might as well go with dual G5. Otherwise the aspens are good units.
  18. No, he was saying, "you're the reason our insurance rates keep going up!"
  19. Besides a digital engine monitor and a storm scope, mine looked very similar. I added the aspen panels later. My scan changed, and it took some practice getting used to it. No biggie though.
  20. Same here. Just glitchy download and got same error. They were easy to reach and reset my cycle.
  21. Thanks. It's only been 4 months. I run plane consistently, but just not putting as many hours between changes. It's not about saving money, it's more about being lazy and not wanting to drop cowling to change the filter.
  22. I keep my plane running at least the bare minimum, about 1 hr every 3 weeks to keep engine lubed. Anyway, with the way things are, we are flying a lot less. I have 15 hours since my last oil change. Would it be okay to keep the same filter for the next change? I know it keeps a small amount of the old oil, but I wasn't sure if that was significant.
  23. Getting a ride is easy. People love showing off their planes. The trick is finding someone near you. With Cole aviation and AGL aviation nearby, I'm sure some mooney pilots aren't too far from your location.
  24. It says it for jets and turboprops. Maybe that's why we haven't heard much about it.
  25. I think STEC went down this road. Lots of people signed up, but very few were willing to plunk down the cash when the time came.
