  1. I think some mechanics installed them to make the annual easier. I would be willing to one of them is a gear override switch, makes it easier to swing the gear when its up on jacks. The other one might override a squat switch. where they are mounted looks like they weren't meant to be used in flight. I'd love to know what you find.
  2. So here's the point I was trying to make: AC 120-76B on page 4 paragraph d says: Portable COTS-based computers, considered to be PEDs with no FAA design, production, or installation approval for the device and its internal components. Class 2 EFBs are typically mounted. They must be capable of being easily removed from or attached to their mounts by flightcrew personnel. Class 2 EFBs can be temporarily connected to an existing aircraft power supply for battery recharging. They may connect to aircraft power, data ports (wired or wireless), or installed antennas, provided those connections are installed in accordance with AC 20-173. (Portable Class 2 EFB components are not considered to be part of aircraft type design; i.e., not in the aircraft TC or STC.) Therefore it should be perfectly legal to connect your PED to an existing antenna that is currently not in use. Since there are a lot of old DME antenna's on aircraft, and the frequency band for ADSB-in is the same as the old DME signal, I would suggest leaving the DME antenna there and someday use it with your stratus.
  3. It looks like a brand new ADSB-in antenna to me.
  4. yes 2s, I fixed it.
  5. Just to update this thread, when I got my stratus back from sporty's they sent a refurbished stratus 2s instead of repairing my stratus 2. With this new unit all of my issues are resolved. Works perfect. I'm guessing the firmware in my stratus 2 didn't support being a router.
  6. Congratulations, you're going to love the upgrade.
  7. +1 for Sam Nipper at Henry County. Very honest and knowledgeable.
  8. Your switches (Circuit breakers) are corroded inside from age and nonuse. They just need to be replaced. They are a bit pricey. Google "Klixon 7270 Series Aircraft Circuit Breakers"
  9. Bada Bing, Bada Boom.....Da Boss..
  10. I bought one from them about 5 years ago. Are you sure they don't sell them?
  11. I think that has something to do when the part is no longer available from the OEM. It doesn't mean we can slowly turn our certified aircraft into home builts one part at a time.
  12. Byron, you totally missed the point. There is nothing wrong with the original lifter design. Although, since the cam is up in the air, the oil will drip off of it leaving it open to oxidation. So fly often and that wont happen. I guarantee you, your friends cams didn't corrode from too much use. Cams corrode and subsequently spall from lack of use. We all know that. Your roller bearing design is in response to corroded and spalled cams. You probably paid about twice as much for your factory overhauled engine than I did for my field overhaul. All I was trying to say was buy gas with the difference and you wont have a problem. And the failure mode of your roller bearing engine still sucks
  13. There is nothing to ramp check, it's all in the public domain forever......
  14. The roller bearings are not worth the extra money you have to pay the factory to install them, and the failure mode sucks. He should just do a field overhaul for the engine he has and put the extra money into flying.
  15. Why in the world would you want to do this? just put the extra money into gas and fly it. The corrosion is there because it sat and lack of use.
  16. I'd dump the 430 and do something like this: http://sarasotaavionics.com/avionics/gns430-to-ifd440-upgrade
  17. all of those!!! They are synonymous.
  18. of course....who else?
  19. Typical knee jerk reaction from an aerospace company. There was a lot of aerospace talent in southern California. If the talent doesn't follow the move, then where's the benefit? I hope the engineers are offered a move package and I hope some of them take it. The talent certainly wasn't in Kerrville anymore.
  20. I'd give Dan a call at LASAR. They rebuilt mine. Put the 40:1 gear in at the same time.
  21. If the oil cooler is relocated and installed vertically, the oil circuit should port the hot oil in the bottom of the cooler, not the top. The engine return should be on the top. There will be no air bubble.
  22. That's only if your representative is from California, New York or New Jersey.
  23. i have them in mine
  24. this is not an AD right? just a service bulletin.
