  1. Another option for the 2 oil cooler hoses is to install the Laser oil cooler relocation. It comes with 2 new hoses and cost around $500 a few years ago. In addition to the new hoses it saves a couple of pounds and gets the hoses away from the exhaust.
  2. It's the Aero Mods inc 1 piece belly that has the stakes down each side. I put one of these on a few years ago and the instructions said to remove some of the original panel support crosspieces as well as the riveted on section of skin under the seat area. In talking to the owner of Aero Mods he told me that he ran a flight school out in Co and got tired of repairing the belly skins, so he developed the one piece and put the stakes on it. He said they would just slide to a stop and the stake would be about 1/4" shorter than before and it usually saved the flap hinges. I also have a complete set of undamaged belly skins if any should have a need for them.
  3. Like several others I started with an 830 and then upgraded to the 900 last summer when the price dropped. It allowed me to remove the old gauges and not have to worry about keeping them working. After selling the 830 and original factory gauges the upgrade cost me around $100. This may be an attractive option if your plane has the Mortiz? gauges. From what I have read replacements are expensive and parts not always available.
  4. According to charts, the water in this area is shallow. I googled the g1000 and it appears that provided data logging is turned on and the software version supports logging it saves very detailed data once a second. In addition to all the engine parameters, it also saves pitch, roll, altitude, vertical airspeed and indicated airspeed among others. Hopefully this data can be located and should lead to an accurated finding of what happened.
  5. If the engine quite at 25,000 why would the autopilot decend from 25000 down to 12000 relatively smoothly with only minor ground speed loss (likely due to ktas or wind changes) and then suddenly cut the airspeed in half and stall the plane. Some other event had to have happened at 1200. Will this autopilot disengage in turbulence?
  6. My 50 year old Brittain Altitude hold senses speed and will lower the nose if the speed drops. It seems like the descent was stable down to 12,000 and then something happened.
  7. How much data does the Garmin panel store?
  8. I believe this may be it is it. A 2007 model. Last return was -5500fpm several miles offshore. Coast guard reported finding debris field 17 miles offshore. http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N370MM
  9. I would consider replacing them with a primary monitor and then recouping some of the money by selling the remaining working gauges and sensors 1 at a time to others who choose to keep repairing them. Based on what others have posted about sensor prices and leadtimes there may be quite a bit of value the the parts.
  10. Small rural airports really struggle with this. They need to be able to buy an entire truckload to get a good price. At the same time some of the fuel suppliers contracts will not allow the FBO to keep the fuel in their storage tank for more than 6 months. Our fuel contract with Chevron came up for renewal last year. They had been giving us 1 year to sell the tank, but with the new contract they cut that down to six months. After much negotiation and searching we finally found a different supplier who would still give us 1 year to sell it.
  11. RG400 coax is a much better coax than RG-58(silver plated vs tin, Telfon vs poly). Its also double shielded. Some transponders even require a lower loss cable than RG400 if the run is very long. The Garmin 327 for example requires the loss of the coax to be below 1.5db@1090MHZ. This limits the length to about 9 feet if using RG400. Longer runs require something like RG393. Loss per 100ft @1GHZ RG58 20db RG400 14.7db RG393 7.5db
  12. When registering a plane under an LLC the FAA requires you to provide a copy of the Articles Of Incorporation showing that the person signing the FAA form is actually a managing member and has authority to conduct transactions, so they already have a contact person if they want to talk to someone.
  13. If its like most other King products of that era it has a gas discharge display that plugs into a socket. Sometimes the socket contacts need cleaning. There is also a HV power supply that runs at around 200VDC that occasionally needs a new transistor and capacitor.
  14. On a similiar note I landed at our home field a few months ago and taxied over to the pump. There was a transient V-tail there. Thinking he would hurry we just stayed in the plane. He briefly glanced at us and then resumed talking for 5 minutes. After he finished talking the he filled the plane up and walked around it slowly. He finally got in and then it was over 5 minutes before the prop ever turned over. Once the motor was running it was another 5 minutes before he pulled up enough for us to get fuel. It took close to 30 minutes. We took almost the same amount of fuel and was back to the hanger in 10 minutes.
  15. You may want to check with Chief. I recieved an email from them tonight about a Labor Day sell of 5-7% off and free shipping. Also their stuff is often cheaper than Spruce even without the discount. http://www.chiefaircraft.com
  16. It may have been part of the SWTA panel STC that you have. If so its ok.
  17. I'm thinking one of the girls placed her foot on the 4 way and put some weight on it.
  18. It's difficult to completely flush a cooler in the field. You may need to send it out to get it completely clean.
  19. Google running programs in compatibility mode. I've had good luck with it.
  20. 64 bit machines have an option to run programs as 32 bits
  21. It's all about compression of the gasket the correct amount. I would think that hand tight+3/4 would give a more consistent compression provided the hand tight point is correctly identified. Torque measurements is very subjective to friction. Most of the torque goes into overcoming the friction (hence DC4). Critical bolts are usually measured by stretch.
  22. I didn't reread the report, once before was enough. If I remember correctly there were a few spark plugs missing also.
  23. It does apply to anyone who has a new engine or recently changed out pump. LW-15473 was discontinued a while back and superseded with 62B26931. I didn't look, but suspect the other number may be the low pressure pump.
  24. They emailed me field update of the software and config file last fall. It only took a couple of minutes to install
