  1. There was some recent post on Beechtalk that JPI had very recently changed their software for the 900/930. The new software removes the numerical value from the fuel tank displays and just shows Full and Empty depicted by a yellow/green slider. They were updating the software on any any unit returned for repair, and it wasn't being received very well.
  2. I noticed this a few years ago and ask their tech support about it. I was told that's just the way it works. If you look at their other saved data you will notice that is all rounded in some manner. The good side to this is that we can store something like 50 hrs of flight data. My brother put a Dynon in his RV and it will only hold 30 minutes of data but.
  3. The display shows 1psi increments, but they use an data compression algorithm that rounds up or down to save memory in the saved data. I guess this is a holdover from older products as flash memory is now large and cheap. Actually the compression algorithm they use saves the starting psi and them only makes an entry when the PSI changes by a rounded increment of 6 psi or more.
  4. One thing I have noticed about JPI's file formatt is that some of the parameters are rounded up and down when saved. I think oil pressure was only logged in 6psi increments. For example if it is logging back and fourth between 70 and 76 it may only be changing from 73 to 74 and rounding makes it look worse. Look at the raw numbers and see if they jump by 6 most of the time.

  6. I recently put in a used Garmin GMA 340 I got off Beachtalk for $700. It was 6 months old and came with a new install kit. Wire and audio jacks cost another $150. I tried to keep up with the time and here is how it broke down. It involves a lot of shielded wiring and is time consuming to strip and terminate correctly. Its also time consuming to get access to all the devices it needs to connect to. The good news was that is was much better than the KMA20 it replaced and a very nice upgrade. If at all possible I would get something that was at least a 340. From that point forward all the products standardized on the wiring pinout and there will be several slide in replacement choices if you ever decide to upgrade or need a replacement in the future. Remove old audio panel, intercom a wiring 2 hrs. remove all radio trays and backplates. 1 hr Build up harness in picture at home 9 hrs Route new harness through plane to all positions and equipment 4hrs put audio connectors on all 4 positions and connect ptt switches 4hrs Connect to both coms, both navs, gps, traffic watch, dme 7hrs mount tray and connect to power 1hr put everything back together 3hrs
  7. I have a few old harnesses laying around, are the ends the same across all manufactures? I have the Skytronics 90 deg boots also. They seemed to be the best value around before Hartzell purchased them.
  8. The sensor should not be mounted to the engine baffle. I had to install a small inline orifice on my JPI 900 to eliminate the pulses and get a smooth reading. There are several other post about this.
  9. Did you try slowly sweeping the mixture from full rich to cutoff?
  10. I have a KMA20 audio panel and separate PS Eng intercom that worked 2 months ago when I replaced them. The audio panel had a new faceplate and looks good, but is old. I can send you some pictures if your interested.
  11. The terminals are different depth and angle, it would have to be attached to the busbar with a short wire or just replace all them and the bus bar will fit.
  12. We have an instrumentated press at work. It would only take a couple of minutes to generate a graph of deflection vs force if someone has a new and old one I will be happy to provide graphs of both.
  13. Those are expensive. Several people have converted to the 7274 series which can also be manually tripped. They are around $20 each
  14. It says it is located in Stockton, Ca. Top Gun is also located there. It's very likely they know the plane, if I was interested I would start by calling them.
  15. We did the same thing a few years ago. It cost around $140 to buy enough material to rebuild all 17 of the hoses. I also had to replace one of the ends due to corrosion.
  16. I've been into a 1800' grass strip on my F with no problems. I was about 200 under gross and with ocean on both ends. Temp was around 90. On short strips have a point picked out in advance that if you are not firmly on the ground by will trigger a go around.
  17. Firewall foward offers the 10:1 STC for the I0360. They make a lot of performance claims for it, but a few people on Mooneyspace reported problems with it a few years ago.

  19. Going from memory there are 2 types of these hinges. One is rolled into shape from flat sheet and the other is extruded. The rolled one can be straightened out if pulled on enough, but I doubt that the nose gear would pull it apart. One of the kit companies sent out the wrong kind several years ago and had to replace them.

  21. A new ball is very cheap, I would get 2 and possibly use one to stake the seat. I would also want to try a second gauge/sensor before digging to deep. Another thought is piston oilers. They are a spring loaded ball that would be opening and closing during the pressure swings that you are seeing. If I remember correctly they open and close in the 50psi range. Its a part most never give a thought to, but when we overhauled my engine we found that non of them were opening and closing at their spec pressure.
  22. How fast are the fluctuations? Is the oil temp stable?
  23. I'm not familiar with the Halo's, but with the Zulu once you remove the muff there is a little round cover that has an adjustment under it. The mic is also very directional to avoid picking up noise so be sure it is pointed at you and not up or down.
  24. Most headsets will also have a mic gain on them. It may be under the mic muff.
  25. I had to replace the filter adaptor a few years ago. The pma version of the filter housing is $150. The Lycoming version was a couple of times more.
