  1. Andy, that would not do what I’m looking for..
  2. I have no reason to do that and would not do that! I have nothing to hide and will not pretend or somehow try to scam! And I’m not asking for any favors! My point is it’s working fine and I wish to keep it. I simply want to back it up fully to include preserving ap functionality. Is that too much to ask?
  3. Our ears are exposed to high dB’s in low frequencies for long periods. We risk hearing loss if we don’t have proper protection. The headset is the most important tool we have to mitigate this risk and protect our hearing. For my money I want the best I can get! Yes, the Bose may seem expensive but I view it as a necessity to protect my hearing! It’s very inexpensive insurance for my ears.
  4. I have never used the QT. I have used the Bose X for years and thought it was the best there is. Until I got the A20 BT! It is by far the best headset imo. The X is very good but the A20 has that impeccable and strong Bose sound quality. It is quiet and extremely comfortable. I forget I’m wearing it!
  5. Thank you for your post Austin. Very nice to see these in action in a Mooney! I have a question and it's the one major sticking point for me. I have in my panel perfectly functioning KI256, KCS55A and KFC150. So removing the vacuum is not my primary goal. What I want is simply an ADI that I can put right next to my 256 that would be a true and full backup. Not just a pretty horizon coming along for the ride. What I mean is in the event of a vacuum failure taking my primary off line, I want that back up to be ready and able to assume the full role of the primary. I want it to provide attitude reference to the KFC so it can continue on. I don’t want to be forced to also take the ap off line. There's no good reason that I’ve heard that one GI275 ADHRS+AP version cannot assume this role. And say I do go for two of them, as you did, there’s no good reason even then why the second GI275 cannot fully back up the primary by providing attitude reference to the ap! For a product touted as the 256 replacement and solution for legacy autopilots these are major shortcomings imo. I was excited when G introduced these but lost that excitement when they force us to buy 2 of them! My primary KI256 doesn't have that limitation and my electric HSI is just fine. I don’t need to replace it and don’t want to be forced to do so. There is an advantage to having a vacuum ADI and an electric HSI. All I want is to backup my 256...fully. If I decide down the road to replace the HSI and take out the KCS55A I want to cross that bridge if/when I get to it. Not forced to do so.
  6. Yes, by lower frequency I meant less hours between oil changes or more oil changes! Could it be that metal was not being detected? But I think oil analyses correct for hours on oil sample. So theoretically it shouldn’t matter and should still be detected.
  7. At what frequency was oil changed and sampled? Could it be due to lower frequency?
  8. The usual result of over insuring is that the insurance underwriter is forced to repair the aircraft in almost all instances. Except in a total loss which is rare. A 66 E hull is still a 66 E hull to the underwriter who has to decide this. Also over insuring carries the additional penalty of higher hull premium.
  9. That’s just sloppy, unprofessional and irresponsible! The solvent is not good for the nose tire and certainly the oil spill is harmful to the environment. I would find another mechanic and do things right.
  10. Your thought process is right on and it’s exactly what I would do. Upgrading what you already own through Garmin offers you great value advantage and will be the most economical. Your paid for 430 is a depreciating asset giving you free cash flow! Why lose that? Garmin helps you continue using it by upgrading it, renewing it, factory certifying it and continue servicing it for under 5 grand! If your decision changes and involves spending any $$ above that you should really go for the GTN650. But there’s no need to do that! The WAAS upgrade gives you everything you need for less than half the cost and you’ll be set for years. Your unit gets a fresh new look. You'll be hard pressed to distinguish it from new! One of my hangar neighbors had it done and we thought it was a brand new unit when it came back! Among other things it will get a new faster microprocessor which enables upgraded software and improved graphics and advanced terrain database. And if you so desire you can pair it up to an FS210 which, among other advantages, wirelessly pushes flight plans to and from a portable. This would mitigate the knob twisting on the 430 and bring your capability almost to that of a GTN650! Some would argue on par with a 650! You’d be set! https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/597181 https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/153681
  11. Anthony, the remote audio panel goes behind the GTN750 not in the back. The GTN650 can control a remote transponder but not remote audio panel. GTN750 can control both.
  12. I agree. We are between the proverbial rock and a hard place. And we’ll be there for as long as there’s no herd immunity. The safe way to build herd immunity is a vaccine. And with this virus we can’t begin to talk about herd immunity without a vaccine. With no vaccine we rely on natural immunity. Contract the virus and build antibodies. Problem is this is a dangerous virus with an R0 of about 6. This means one person can pass it to 6 others. That’s majorly contagious to rely on natural immunity! There will be much illness and death in a short amount of time overburdening the health care delivery system. So our only option presently is to spread it out over an extended time. Buy some time. That’s where social distancing and shutting down the country come in. We aim to flatten the curve by extending it over a longer timeline. But the area under the curve is still the same area under the curve! A vaccine is at least 12-18 months away at best and with a healthy dose of wishful thinking. Serological testing may help identify individuals who have overcome an infection in the past and have developed an immune response. We may be able to utilize such data to identify individuals who may no longer be susceptible to infection and can return to work. Key words there are “may” because there are many variables and unknowns. We are between a rock and a hard place without any good options. We will be in this tight spot for and long while. Practice physical distancing and stay safe!
  13. This looks like it’s being mishandled in many levels but there are no good choices. To Pres. Trump's credit he is following what the epidemiologists are advising him. If we did nothing about 30 million would die worldwide. ¹ That’s all. I view this as a correction or population control. Assuming 8 billion world population this translates to roughly +1 million deaths in the US. ² Also a very small number. That mostly is composed of medically impaired individuals. Things like altered immune status, cardiac disease, immunosuppressed, respiratory distress, etc. etc. After this correction life would go on, as it has after previous pandemics, and the the rest of the population would have stronger immunity to it. Shutting down the country and the economy like this also has casualties and a “mortality rate” that no one talks about! (¹ ² Statistics only apply to populations. Not to the individual.)
  14. Most Mooney viruses are mild infections with hardly any symptoms. But yours is a severe one! A doozy of an illness in all its glory exhibiting glory full symptomatology! You have got it bad my friend! We have no vaccine for it but good news is that it’s harmless. Best you can do is some palliative care to try and alleviate the symptoms and make yourself comfortable. Let it run it’s course and eventually you will develop an immune response and antibodies to it and feel better! You should explain it to your family and those around you. So they don’t think you’ve gone nuts and worry about you in the interim. One more thing: it can be contagious. Someone around you may catch it. Again it’s harmless and no distancing required! It’s a lot more fun to share. Misery loves company!
  15. Those are covers to access the light bulbs for trim and flap position indicators. They unscrew but careful because they are plastic and may resist. Chances are they’ve never been removed. I removed mine once, cleaned them and applied a drop of triflow on them and put them back.
  16. Why do you feel they need “replacing” as opposed to refinishing? Can you post some pictures of what it is that makes you reach this conclusion? By nature of its chemistry ABS can be refinished to be brand new. Literally!
  17. Thank you for the very informative video Mark! It’s amazing how a very simple task: a direct hold on present course serves to reveal the sharp contrast in these navigators! In IMC the box should help relieve workload. Certainly not add to it as one of them so poignantly but predictably does!
  18. Truly He’s Risen!
  19. How about: 2-POOF or G-BOYS
  20. Unless I missed something what I have distilled from this thread is that the op has a ff and distribution issue. The distribution issue is most likely a consequence of the low ff through the tired carb. The carb is older and overdue for an oh or maybe replacement. @ragedracer1977 have you tried to increase the ff a little on the carb? Is that possible? Seems to me it can’t hurt to try and see how the temps react? You'd be surprised the difference in temps even 1gph can make! I fly the IO360 and don’t have any carb experience but 15.5 on TO seems low to me. I typically see 19.5 gph WOT full rich @ sl. Just thinking out loud.
  21. Removed, cleaned, primed and applied two coats of protective paint. Then covered with leather.
  22. No need to send them across the country and pay hundreds for the privilege! Yokes are easy to do yourself. I did mine with leather I had left over from interior.
  23. A very important question to answer in order to differentially diagnose is did the Avidyne downgrade the approach? When there is loss of vertical guidance during an LPV or LNAV/VNAV the navigator should downgrade to LNAV and properly annunciate. Did this happen?
  24. The Mooney tail is a blank canvas! The possibilities are endless... 100% paint, 0% vinyl!
  25. Happy to see Tangier Island is still above water! Best soft shell crabs!
