  1. Not easy! I need to use the ashtray otherwise my cigarettes would be harmful to my pax!
  2. You are probably right. And it’s the same argument with leather. My philosophy is since I’m paying either way I might as well source the material directly from an aviation vendor. They have full knowledge of what is expected by the FAA and will sell me product approved to go in an airplane. And provide me with full documentation so if there's ever any question the trail is all in the logbook. I think with some homework and smart buying you’ll find that it's very cost effective. I did my little Mooney’s complete interior carpet and leather fully documented this way and saved money too!
  3. PM sent.
  4. I can only speak for myself and my J in which case the answer is yes. Carpet in the J is very simple and does not interfere with any controls. Be sure to get properly sourced certified carpet (not from local auto shop or home depot) with certifications and burn test when you order the carpet and put in with the log book entry.
  5. It’s not only 12 feet that you need! I don’t remember the area my J required. It’s a lot more than 12 sq. feet! Carpet comes in standard rolls. It’s called “goods.” Either 12, 13.5 or 15 foot goods. You have to measure and get enough length in the roll and be sure you cut it right so you don’t waste it. You need to orient the long floor and side wall pieces correctly so you don’t buy more than you need and waste it. I found that getting 12 ft goods was the most economical. That’s what 12 ft means. It minimized carpet I needed to buy while also minimizing waste, i.e. had least left over. If you buy a remnant roll be sure its long enough!
  6. https://douglassinteriorproducts.com/product-category/aviation/ I bought a 12’ goods remnant at a great discount.
  7. It was all of 100$ carpet when I did mine! Ordered a roll of certified carpet and used old pieces as templates. What I liked about that is the control I had in cutting the pieces. The old pieces were too small for my liking. Meaning too much space around the perimeter. I cut the new ones a little larger. Not much maybe a half inch or so but makes a huge improvement in how it looks and stays down. You have to account for serging or binding because it adds about 1/4 or 3/8”.
  8. Where do you get your pizza Anthony?!! (...just kidding...!!!)
  9. And that’s grossly overpriced for self serve Anthony! And I’m not too keen on fueling from that corroded tank! I filled up at GED three days ago for 4.21 $/gal.
  10. As a matter of policy I never buy used avionics. It would have to be factory overhauled with a year warranty at a minimum. And at that point might as well buy brand new. Also finding a shop to install the used stuff is not easy and it will cost more than new.
  11. One rule never to be broken when buying used avionics is to know what the associated parts are that you need for your installation before buying. Finding out you need to buy more parts quickly erodes any value you may think you received. Install costs are the same if not more for used as they are for new.
  12. I just renewed my1 million smooth, 2210$. 130K hull and no claims. This is up about 20% since last year! The aviation insurance industry has taken a hit and they’re adjusting our premiums accordingly.
  13. iOS is preferred over android. iOS has vastly superior hardware and software integration.
  14. There’s another way to look at this: Let’s assume with your numbers that it will be around 5500$ to rebuild gyros and replace vacuum pump. Let’s now assume you take that 5500$ and put it towards the installation of a dual GI275, which is on the high end. The cost of the two GI 275 units is about 8500$ which is your net cost. Now what did this 8500$ buy you over and above your existing system? GPSS (GDC31) will cost about 4K installed. This leaves 4500$. How much does a backup electronic AI cost. A G5 backup AI is 3500$ installed. This leaves 500$. Realistically it doesn’t because 5500$ for installation is on the high end. But even so everything else the GI275 gives you like dual ADHRS, reversion and redundancy, alt preselect, backup gps, dual battery backup, about 40 pounds weight loss, etc etc etc is worth way more than 500$! I agree that you can save the 8500$ and the airplane will fly just fine but when comparing costs it’s not apples to apples.
  15. Time to get a couple of the brand new Garmin GI275’s. Full reversionary redundancy and will interface and run your autopilot too with no external boxes. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/719027
  16. Ron, have you considered the new Garmin GI275? It was made with the KAP/KFC 150 in mind! https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/719027
  17. The audio panel and the transponder are not really accessed that frequently. They are set once and maybe never need to be reset or changed during the entire flight. I have the 750 with remote GMA35C and GTX345R. I’m extremely satisfied and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
  18. Do you have avionics cooling blowers behind the panel that go on with master? If so that motor maybe going bad. Look under the panel for orange or black scat tubing maybe 3/4 or 1” diameter and follow it. One end should be going to the radios and the other to a cooling blower box. Something similar to this:
  19. I haven’t put this in the simulator so I don’t know what you’re looking at. I will do so when I get a chance. But regardless what the simulator or the unit does you cannot follow it blindly. The published plate takes priority.
  20. When approaching from the east within the 005-185 sector the GTN will ask you if want the course reversal. This is to help you in case you need to fly the hold for some reason. It does not however override what’s published on the plate. When approaching from the east within the 005-185 sector it states No PT. You cannot fly pt without communicating with atc.
  21. When approaching from the east within the 005-185 sector of the TAA it says NoPT as shown. This precludes you from performing the pt without communicating with atc first.
  22. No. Activating the approach at DUCER from any direction will give you the hold. It may ask you if you want it depending on which direction you are approaching. What you do with it is your choice according to what you need. Course reversal, lose altitude, both or neither. If you don’t need it you can delete it. It is merely a hold for any of those purposes. It does not say PT NA.
  23. I don’t find this weird. The plate depicts a hold at DUCER. It does not state PT Not Authorized. If you activate the approach at DUCER it will give you the hold as published, i.e. 4nm at 2600. What you do with that hold, i.e. fly it for course reversal or to lose alt or both or delete it if don’t need it, is up to you. If approaching from the west you most likely will need it for course reversal. From the east most likely not for course reversal but maybe to lose altitude. If you don’t need to fly around the hold it can be deleted on flight plan page. Now, because DUCER is an IF/IAF, if atc clears for the approach prior to reaching the fix from the east they expect one circuit around the hold for purposes of course reversal. If need more circuits to lose altitude for example, must tell them so. If approaching from the west the plate states NO Pt. So do not assume because GTN asks if you want it you can do so.
