  1. Sorry about the skinny legs in the photo. Shouldn’t have to see that. Lee
  2. Here is my 7” G3X. I like the setup. Next up is an EDM-930 to eliminate the legacy gauges. Lee
  3. That’s what I did. I used a cyclone 21 and I believe I had to make a new mounting plate. Difficult area to work in, but overall not a bad project. Lee
  4. I’ve used both weep no more and wet Wingologist-east (two different Mooney’s). Both Paul and Eddie were great to work with. On time and no issues with either company. I’d go to whichever is most convenient. Lee
  5. My son flew his family up there last year. Went into k62, used the crew car to see the Ark and then after lunch flew to mammoth cave. He said the family liked the Ark experience the best. Lee
  6. I will be traveling to Pittsburgh in mid august and was thinking about stopping by the museum on the way back. I’m Interested in any comments about Dayton too. Lee
  7. Globe motors does a good job. Bobbie is easy to work with. Lee
  8. I replaced mine with a cyclone 21. It required some modification of the mounting bracket and is a difficult location to access. Probably 3 hours install time. Lee https://lonestaraviation.com/product/3-port-blower-aircraft-14v-crb-6457-28v-crb-122253/?v=47e5dceea252
  9. For my Citabria, I am currently building a new weight and balance list in Excel, using all the additions and subtractions over the years. I’ve found numerous errors in the w&b revisions. I plan to have my mechanic sign off on the new list once finished. I will do the same with my Mooney soon too. Lee
  10. As others have mentioned, 1650f is not in the AFM, however, for some reason, I’ve always thought that 1,650f was the max. Don’t know why though. The attached document from lycoming recommends egts of less than 1450f for longevity. Lee https://www.lycoming.com/content/tips-extending-tbo#:~:text=A maximum 1%2C450˚ F,420˚ F is recommended.
  11. You might try Joey Cole in dalton Ga. He’s about 30 min south of you. https://www.coleaviation.com/
  12. For the commercial 180, I found aiming for three stripes prior to the touchdown zone worked well. I always used full flaps for consistency. On the actual ride, the tower gave me a last minute change to fly a right hand (non-standard) pattern which unsetttled me some. I was a little low and had to pull the prop to make the touchdown marker. Examiner said she would have failed me if I hadn’t push the prop back in prior to landing. Lee
  13. At SnF, EI told me 45’s are fine, provided they are on both sides of the transducer. Lee
  14. I’ve seen some good work by the Carrollton shop. Recently, a friend had his Pilatus PC-7 done by them. Workmanship looks excellent. Lee
  15. I didn’t know Flying magazine still existed. Lee
  16. The last time I bought one of the flimsy brackets from Spruce, I filled the stem with Proseal and it has held up well. Lee
  17. I last flew a Comanche 50 years ago and still remember the flights in it. It was fast, comfortable, and looked cool through the eyes of a 17 year old. I was the typical airport kid, who worked for the FBO owner/CFI/mechanic. I washed and fueled airplanes and helped him in the maintenance shop. He would let me fly airplanes over to Montgomery Al to have radio work done on his airplanes as well as owners airplanes. My checkout in the Comanche consisting of the owner squatting on the wing and pointing out the starter switch and the gear selector and saying “raise the gear when you takeoff and don’t forget to let it down when you land”. Does this count as a high performance endorsement? I got to fly a lot of different airplanes while in high school, including a Stearman. He did check me out in the Stearman though (3 trips around the pattern). those were different times, Lee
  18. Lyons Landing, 5ga2, is an option too. We are about 40 miles west of Atlanta. Lee
  19. I bought this one. It only has three ports, but was fine for my needs. It took a few modifications to get it to fit and it’s a difficult spot to work. I replaced my failing Blower to cool my kap150. Now that I have a gfc500, I really don’t see much need for the blower. Lee
  20. A slow roll to the touchdown point is a good plan - I’ve done that several times. However, it’s your choice and what the controller thinks doesn’t matter. Do what you feel is safe for you. Lee
  21. Yeah, same here. Didn’t know if I was the only one to continue using the autopilot. Lee
  22. I had my gfc500 software updated today. Probably 30 minutes including paperwork. did anyone really disable their autopilot per the SB? My avionics said most of his customers didn’t. lee
  23. I place a file folder between the pillars and the glareshield to prevent marring the window trim when pulling the glareshield out. Lee
  24. I know mine did that too, so I always leave mine in the up position. However, since having the motor overhauled I have noticed it does seem to stay up even if the switch is off. Lee
