  1. I don’t believe a VSI is a required instrument. Too lazy to look and see though! Lee
  2. I don’t change the gaskets unless needed, but I do periodically change the nuts (every 4 years or so). Lee
  3. Why would they even build this? Nav is quickly going away. Lee
  4. I’ve always used Atlantic to RDU. Haven’t been in a couple of years though. Lee
  5. Thanks for the update. I’ll give that a try. Lee
  6. If you manufacture your own, make sure you order delrin. Aactal and delrin product names can be confusing. Delrin is a homo-polymer; some forms of acetal are a co-polymer. Lee
  7. I use FltPlan.com to file my flight plans. I like their gui much better than FF. FltPlan.com list several recent filed routes vs. actual routes. Using this, I just about always get ‘As filed’ clearances in the Southeast. Lee
  8. I have the same issue with FS210 and ForeFlight. It’s seems to be a random issue. What has worked best for me is leave the iPad offto until the GTN750 is receiving data. Also, If the plane moves prior to pairing it will not work for the rest of the flight. Makes no sense, and FF can’t explain it - and says no one else is reporting this problem. Lee
  9. We really need a file location on this site for cad drawings. I’m working on one for my panel now (‘92 M20j). Lee
  10. I did my CSES at Jack Browns in a cub. It was a hoot. Even the checkride was fun. very laided back atmosphere. I felt they had a strong commitment to safety though I thought they should have a radio in the airplanes due to the proximity to the adjacent land based airport. Lee
  11. One of my pet peeves too. BUSS is a brand, like Xerox. Lee
  12. McFarland may have a replacement for you. https://www.mcfarlaneaviation.com Lee
  13. Anthony, we are increasing the pilot population the old fashioned way - grow your own! Lee
  14. Great layout. Moving the mag switch should not be too difficult. Lee
  15. It’s complicated. Levi has been flying with either me or his father since he was 12. We didn’t get him an instructor until about two weeks prior to his 16th birthday. After about four hours, his instructor said he was ready, but my insurance required 10 hours with an instructor prior to solo. So, he soloed after the 10th hour of instruction. funny story. Early on, my son said Levi was pretty sloppy with coordinated turns, so they went out and he demonstrated 4 or 5 spins to drive home the importance of keeping the ball centered. He said, the ball has never left center since. The instructor also commented that his turns are always perfectly coordinated. lee
  16. In the process of installing the Whelen LED strobe and Recognition lights now. Did the tail strobe today. Simple install. Lee
  17. My grandson soloed a few weeks ago in our Citabria making him a fourth generation pilot. I told him he had to learn in the Citabria, but he will have access to the Mooney for his instrument rating when the time comes. He got his drivers license two days after turning 16 and soled the next week. He also has discovered girls. He will find all three pursuits expensive! lee
  18. In my experience, wind can be a significant factor. Especially in downwind takeoffs. Lee
  19. Mine occasionally does this too. Where is the diode located? Lee
  20. ^ this^ My wife has been flying with me for 47 years and 2.5-3.0 hours is her limit. Solo, I’ll do slight longer legs, but also want to stop at 3.5 hours. Lee
  21. I’ve installed a strikefinder in one airplane and a stormscope in another. Strikefinder is easier to install and works great. My current Mooney has a Wx500 showing on the GTN750 and it works great too. I wouldn’t want to fly in the Southeast without one of these. Lee
  22. I ordered my in February from AS. Still no show. I’ve tried a few other vendors without success. Lee
  23. I agree completely. Names should be required, though I’ve never had an issue selling something on MS. Lee
  24. I just kept the ASI and AI as backups. Probably overkill. Lee
