  1. The front seats, engine and tires were already buring intensely while they were unrolling their hose. But it was rapidly controlled once they turned on the spigot.
  2. Does your C have wing fuel gauges? I didn't realize we were on the STC list . . . .
  3. Nice photo of the legendary, semi-mythical cumulogranite!! Be careful out there!! All we had this weekend was oppressive haze. Beneath the layer, ground visibility was decent, 8-10 miles, but the ground blurred into the clouds. Was too busy handflying to take a picture of the bad stuff . . . . Sweet Home was nice, but getting hone across Upland SC (even the lower parts, too!) was not. Oh the joys of not being instrument current! But plans for that are in place.
  4. Some people just don't understand that "stuff" is only worth what people will pay to buy it . . . .
  5. Even my 1970 C has two idiot lights for voltage: High Voltage and Low Voltage, right there beside the 6-pack. From the factory
  6. Wow, an E! Can't wait to read how this happened, what battery he had, what was running in the cockpit, etc., etc. Makes me wonder if the battery was still on the firewall like mine, or if it had been relocated to the aft radio space?
  7. Oh, so just like a Mooney?
  8. Mine is powder coated, fits well, and after a while scratches appear then they rust. It's been 10-12 years now, and only the part.that goes into the nose gear is rusty. Before that, the whole thing was rusty, especially where the lower half slid into the upper half for stowing.
  9. Seems my cowl flaps are open ~1.5", give or take. I'll look for pictures from a few years ago.
  10. That's why I fly for ME, and not for work!! Oh, and my Mooney won't stay aloft for 12 hours, no matter what Jonathan Paul did in his E . . . .
  11. The worst winds I've landed my Mooney in ( loaded to gross minus 3 hours' fuel burn) was at KRAP, 50° left of the runway, mid-teens gusting into the mid-20s, as a barely 200-hr pilot with just over 100 Mooney hours. Watching the Diamond trainer land after me made me feel a whole lot better. My biggest fear with that strong left crosswind was the right turn to taxi back to parking . . . . No, we didn't nose over. Most of our books just give a."demonstrated" crosswind rather than a limit. Not sure that's even in mine!
  12. Forgot to check the other day, but it looks to be 1" under the (scratched) powder coating.
  13. This may.not be what you need (no engine monitor), but I took these about 2 hrs into a 3:15 flight, but it's all I have. Note that my cowl flaps are fixed, no adjustments from the factory. Going out this morning: Coming back this evening: Don't get to log 6.7 hours many days!
  14. Mine is coming. Hope yours is able to!
  15. @Echo, hope everything is alright over your way, Scott! This was ugly, just watched the recording of the weatherman withnthentornado forming over the airport, that had been broadcast live.
  16. Don't forget @Yetti, isn't he 6'9". But I agree, its all about inseam length.
  17. This is how mine was done, by one previous owner or another. Easy to reach with my left thumb while holding the yoke. Front and back photos for reference.
  18. I have a trip this weekend, AL-NC-AL, I'll grab some pictures in climb and cruise. It's higher in climb, of course, and warm weather seems to be back again, but Pil Temp usually has a good margin below the top of the green line. My baffling was freshened a couple of years ago, and seals off pretty well now, which has to help.
  19. But albatross soar. This little guy was 4 months old, and flapped his wings for 11 days without pause! Absolutely amazing! Plus he found New Zealand.
  20. "Never underestimate the power of human stupidity." "Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool." Not my original thoughts, but I heartily agree with both of these, and their underlying sentiments.
  21. Just be sure to use blue Loctite and not red!
  22. I had my towbar powder coated, it still went into the gear leg easily.
  23. I thought he wanted the panel itself, not the instruments to mount in it. The last time I was at the avionics shop, they had a whole pole of used panels that they had replaced. Check around with some, see what they have.
  24. What part of this made you think it's OFF??? Or is there a benefit to having the landing light on during annual, or for the entire pitot static test instead of turning it off halfway through?
  25. I know Whelen makes one to replace the large PAR46 bulb in the cowling, because I bought one in 2014. So far, I'm only aware of it being turned off twice since then, once during annual and the other time halfway through the IFR instrument tests. There are several good options. Mine is a Whelen Parmetheus, but now there are two additional Parmetheus versions out and I don't know the difference between them. I've heard of people buying generic PAR46-sized LED tractor lights and using them [what about radio interference?] but can't recommend that option, even at 10% the price of Whelen. There are other vendors, too, with good LED bulbs, just make sure you get a Landing Light and not a Taxi light! Oh, wait--"Whelen" has now become "WAT". Seems there is someone here who is a Whelen distributor . . . . If I remember, I'll add his username. Gallagher rings a bell, but isn't listed.
