  1. Fedex lost my engine for about a week back in November/December. It apparently bounced around from facility to facility, until the logistics company that used Fedex sorted it out. Best of luck. +1 for sending a letter from a lawyer.
  2. Cole Aviation in Dalton, GA isn't that far away, and they're a great Mooney shop. Might be worth getting them to come down to the airplane or taking the airplane up to Dalton.
  3. +1. Just practiced this with an M20M student last weekend, and this exact point was hit home. Fly the airplane - re-trim, re-trim, re-trim, and clean up as you have the pitch change under control.
  4. Very interested in hearing a future PIREP on the beta/reverse operation!
  5. Who else has flown the Hudson corridor in a Mooney? Just checked off that bucket list flight over the weekend. Super easy if you haven't done it before, just make sure you take the FAASafety.gov course and comply with the speed limit and reporting points!
  6. Lots of great responses here. I would also say do at least an hour or two of recurrent training yearly - that'll not only help ensure you haven't picked up any bad habits, but it'll also help on your insurance quote when you can say you did partake in some training during the year. Most important thing to me? Engage in the community. Go to fly-ins, participate on this forum, fly with others and let others fly with you. Continue to learn as much as you can - you'll have more fun when you do. As I tell my Mooney transition training students, buying your airplane and getting checked out in it is just the start! +1 on standardization of operations of your airplane, speed control, and finding an experienced Mooney mechanic.
  7. Stay tuned - we aren't done with our pre-1965 friends yet!
  8. Have you talked to your dealer yet, Robert?
  9. Does that mean we'll see a 737-10MAX style gear mechanism to fit it in the same well? For those unaware of how it works, it's a really neat piece of engineering, shown here: 737 MAX Gear Retraction
  10. Thanks for the tag, @carusoam. @Fly_M20R, thanks for highlighting your new GI 275's in your newest videos! Out of curiosity, have you talked to your dealer/installer about this yet?
  11. Thanks for the tag, Anthony. Let me dig around internally at G and see what I can find out! @Davidv - please check your messages on here for my email address.
  12. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Hoping to do some flying this weekend after a day full of turkey tomorrow.
  13. Thanks, Scott! We weren't sure of the Butler hook at first, but it has grown on us. Let me know if you're ever down this way! -Kyle
  14. Ah, great! I've heard of him through our autopilot program manager. Happy to hear he's on MS!
  15. Many of my coworkers are active down at Gardner, and I've been spending some time there myself!
  16. Looking forward to it! Hopefully bringing along a second Mooney owner too - it'd be the first Mooney Summit for both of us!
  17. I agree with everyone else that has mentioned not turning towards the runway too quickly. Once I took a deep breath and rolled in slowly, the maneuver started coming together for me. Here's another piece of advice - if you can choose a left or right downwind, you can control your destiny a bit better, too. If you continually float long, you can always pick the downwind side that has you into the wind on base so you can turn in a little earlier and control your rate of descent a little more finely.
  18. 1) I live in Lenexa, putting me equidistant from KC Downtown, OJC, and IXD. On the hangar lists at most all local airports at this point! Would happily instruct in Mooneys out of any and all local airports, though! 2) I would be happy to help with Garmin questions, or make sure we get the question answered by the right SME!
  19. We bought our 1971 M20E (with all of the 201 mods) three years ago and haven't regretted it a bit. After flying a J-bar Mooney, getting time in an F, J, and long-body turbo Mooney, we felt like our E-model was the best bang for the buck. Again, it has all of the 201 mods so we see 155 KTAS regularly on ~9 gph. Electric gear and flaps are super nice, too. I've had me + three adult passengers onboard with fuel for 2-3 hour legs on vacation and it works well. Agree with previous comments, your backseaters cannot be super tall, but for the age of your children now a short-body should work just fine. With a $75k budget, you can surely find a good E or F model to upgrade with newer avionics. Good luck on your search!
  20. Echoing what many have already said, just be conscious of sink on final. Flaps aren't super effective, but they do work. @Shadrach is right that unless you do an aggressive power-on stall, the PA20/22s won't really stall. Have fun with the airplane! I have about 150 hours in the tailwheel version.
  21. Hey guys! Just wanted to say hello and see if there are any other Kansas City based Mooney owners on here! I'm an M20E owner, a CFI, and just started at Garmin about a month ago. Let me know if you're in the area and looking for any transition training, a BFR, or Garmin training!
