FLAP RETRACTION AFTER TAKEOFF
KLudwick replied to DCarlton's topic in Mooney Safety & Accident Discussion
I've given ~100 hours of Mooney dual this year and put another 50 on mine. I have always used and taught the same technique: as soon as the gear is up in the wheels wells and you make a quick scan of the instruments, retract the flaps. The quick scan of the instruments lets you ensure proper climb speed, directional control, etc, and prepare for the additional slight pitch change when you retract takeoff flaps. For Johnson bar machines, in many cases the scan allows you to get back on proper speed and heading seeing as many owners let one or the other slip during gear retraction. Cleaning the airplane up and capturing/maintaining your preferred climb speed sooner allows for better second and third segment climb rates as well. We all fly our machines a bit differently, which makes flying more fun (and creates good buzz and conversation on MooneySpace)! -
Hi all! Garmin will have our recently upgraded Ovation 2 on display at the Garmin exhibit during AirVenture Oshkosh featuring the G500 TXi flight display, dual GTN Xi navigators, dual GI 275 electronic flight instruments, and the GFC 500 autopilot. Stop by, say hi, and take a look at how we upgraded the company Ovation! For more info on new products, seminars, and other Garmin news during Oshkosh, visit www.garmin.com/Oshkosh. Kyle

Looks great! Thanks for the update!

Happy I came across this post! I too own an Aerostar Mooney - the first one off the line - 21-001. You're exactly right, everyone that sees the stinger tail instantly asks what it is and why it exists and they're always surprised to hear the 'Aerostar' answer! As a Garmin employee, I'd be remiss if I didn't say thanks for upgrading to G5s and a GI 275 MFD!

Congrats! Fantastic airplanes.

Had another personal Mooney first today - I flew my vintage Mooney to instruct in another one! All of my Mooney training clients so far this year have been within driving distance or I had to airline to them - not today! I headed up to Nebraska in my M20E to start a new Mooney owner on his M20C transition training. Also crossed 50 hours of Mooney dual-given in 2021 during our flying today. Pretty neat moment. Here’s to more Mooney’ing for all of us in the summer months to come!

This would be my recommendation as well, and is actually how I've done it myself in the past, but I'll pass this along to the team and see if we can find many other departures like it with other resolutions.

Out of curiosity, what makes you think we aren't willing to fix it, Anthony?

Are you going to Sun 'n Fun? Part deux
KLudwick replied to 1964-M20E's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
See you there! Be sure to stop by and see us in Hangar D at the Garmin exhibit. -
Two totally different things. PDC = Pre-Departure Clearance. All on the ground. As said earlier in the thread, it basically sends you your full clearance ahead of start-up, and you just need to notify ground of your squawk code (to show you received the PDC) and that you're ready to taxi. CPDLC is true in-flight communications via two way text messaging, per se.

I took it near Joshua Tree National Park! Gorgeous day to fly.

@carusoam I was the one that found the broken arm rest after delivering it to Como from central California, and I wish it was working after 8+ hours enroute... But, we'll get it fixed this weekend during the checkout flight.

G1000 Supplemental Data Card Issue
KLudwick replied to Bob5151F's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I would echo Blue's comment, but I haven't heard of this issue personally. Happy to do some digging for you if you cannot remedy the issue! -
Greatly appreciated!

I am willing to do the test flight and the checkout if Mike cannot. I also have a close friend that is a Mooney owner at Spruce Creek (7FL6) that's a CFI if you want a closer option.

Can you give me context or a scenario where a screen placed D-> is better than the physical soft key? Thanks!

Never been but going to Sun N Fun need info

SNF isn't Oshkosh, but we are all excited for an in-person event this year! There's Enterprise Rental Car on the field if you need a car - they always set up a temporary location. I have also enjoyed using Sheltair there if you want to base at the FBO. Airshows daily, and they have one night airshow like Oshkosh (I think it's on Tuesday or Wednesday night). We've previously used Plant City as an easier alternative to fly into with rental cars available on-site. Feel free to message me directly if you have any questions, and be sure to swing by and say hi at the Garmin tent! -
+1 for leaving takeoff power set throughout the climb. That's how I teach it in the Ovation, and as others have mentioned, your power is reduced by virtue of the climb after a few minutes anyways. I always teach 120-130 knots IAS in the climb as well, which seems to keep cooling flow and performance at a happy medium.

I'd say you have a clogged injector, or a clog at the spider (less likely, but can still happen). I just had this recently happen as well!

KLudwick replied to FAST FLIGHT OPTIONS LLC's topic in Mooney Bravo Owners
I just did a check-out for a new owner in a Bravo GX, and I'm happy to travel from Kansas City to instruct for the weekend. -

Would love to meet you there, Parker! Be sure to swing by the Garmin booth and say hello if I don't make it to Hangar A! -
