  1. Ok, Ok, OK........I must confess something here, as an Avionics Shop.....I have to say that in my 30 years in the industry, all in Avionics, I have become a professional "Not it!" player. Whenever a new software update comes out and the frisky young pilots come around because they track this stuff and want to "be the first guy with the new software" we tend to play the "Not it" game. I seem to have to do it anyway because no one else wants to do it and I will give in most of the time......but I digress.......here is what I ALWAYS recommend, if you system(s) are doing what you want and need them to do, why change it? If the "fix" in the software doesn't affect you, why do it? When you delve into software you are opening yourself and systems up naked in a room full of stiff collars that will mess around and have no heart. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. My contact is always below and call me at anytime. We are all in this together and if there is a question you need answered and I can get it for you, I will. But as for the Garmin software updates, slow down on getting them and let the bugs get worked out for a few months. This whole 6.50 debacle, I had to completely reconfigure 2 GTN750 with dual G600 in a King Air because of the update. The thing is, there was no info on the wiring in for this aircraft so I had to follow everything out to figure it out. It was quite fun. Slow down and the aircraft and pocketbook will thank you. And no, Garmin picks nothing up for these "Mandatory Updates".... Be good and keep the info coming!!!!! Mooniacs Unite!!!!!!
  2. It does! Customers have been taking advantage of this for the GDL-82.
  3. This is one of the easiest installs to do. We do it for about 10-15 hours depending on the accessibility. It is pretty much an open and shut install. You can also get various discrete inputs to fly anonymously and such to boot.

  5. And as an Avionics Shop Manager and Owner, have them take out your carpeting or at LEAST cover it!!!!! That is a sin!!!! You could sell your 335 for a little less than what you got it for and you would be ahead. Can't wait to see the finished product!!!!!
  6. I totally understand and while understand the practice, with a Comm Radio it is different because of the amperage it pulls, however, with the PMA Audio panels, they are pretty much the best out there and do not pull much current in normal configuration. I am not saying at all you are wrong, I just would not do that as a normal practice unless it happens again. It is good thinking though.
  7. Not yet. Be sure to check power and ground first before anything else. Let's not replace things, just to be safe or to rule out. If power and ground are present, then , as Mark said, it could be a seating issue.
  8. Lasar is in Lakeport, Ca. Lampson Field. 1O2. 7072630412
  9. Ok, perfect! Good info! Do you have a CB for the Turn Coordinator? Check that also. One thing to look at is to see if the headset and mic jacks are actually isolated from ground. They SHOULD be grounded through the intercom unit itself, ONLY! If they are not isolated from the airframe and grounding there, they can pick up noise as well. Also, we need to be sure that the wiring going to the mic and headset jacks are shielded correctly.
  10. With or without engines running? Only on Intercoms or also on Comm? Have you had engine work done lately?
  11. That is correct! The GDL 82 "piggy backs" the existing transponder signal and lets the ADS-B out "ride" on that RF being generated from the existing transponder. It is a real simple install and very very cost effective for ADS-B out ONLY. Generally cost for parts and labor for the GDL is well under 4000.00.
  12. Mark, glad to see you here checking this out! We need to catch up!!! Lets talk soon!!!
  13. Let me know what you find by doing this. Or if the Avionics Shop does it. I wish there was a way to get it here or for me to get there to troubleshoot. Hope it helps. Good luck my friend!!!
  14. This may sound SOOOO STUPID, but try unplugging the Aspen and then put the CB fo the Aspen in to see if there is an accessory hooked to the Aspen causing it. Also. ensure that the shields between the 530W and the Aspen, assuming they are connected, are NOT grounded on both ends. It could be causing what is known as a "Ground Loop" which will cause this very thing. If there is a difference of potential between the 2 ends where they are grounded, it will cause static as power wants to seek ground from one place to another. Just try and ensure that they are not grounded on BOTH ends. It will cause one to chase ghosts and go bald! Hope it helps!
  15. Are you looking to add weight also? The GDL-88 is a solution, however, you are simply adding weight also. Though it is minimal, you are adding weight. THe GDL88 will do In and Out for display purposes and ADS-B Mandate. However, there are several ways to go about getting ready for the mandate and making a clean panel for ease of use also. The question is twofold, 1) what type of functionality are you looking? 2) what is your budget? You could spend the extra money for the GTN750, with a remote audio panel and remote GTX345 all being controlled on the GTN750 for functionality purposes as well as Upgrading to the GNS430W as well. You will have a cleaner panel, easier to reference to and lighten the load so to speak. THat is the cadillac option and because you fly so much, would be a great safety feature as well. Now, there are other panel mount/remote combinations you can do also. Again, the twofold question still applies. Let me know if I can help and I hope this will help out also.
  16. As far as the GTN 750/650 breaking squelch, there are adjustments your Avionics Shop can make in the configuration settings to adjust the squelch settings to a more suitable level. It is actually outlined in the Installation Manual. These new radios come from Garmin adjusted SO sensitive that adjustments ARE required at the installation facility to combat this very issue. If you need help/getting the excerpt from the manual, let me know. I am glad to help out.
  17. Is it worse or how is it when the engine is running? Also, what type of turn coordinator do you have? If you have a "brush type" Turn Coordinator, when checking out your Comm radio, pull the CB for the Turn Coordinator because that is a common cause. Further, if you do NOT have the static when engines are NOT running, but the static is bad when it IS running, open the cowl and look at the shielding of your magneto "P Leads". If they are not shielded correctly, that will wreak havoc on the Comm radio. While in the engine compartment, be sure there are no old wires that have not been removed from the engine compartment leading into the cockpit because it will take all of that RF generated in the engine area and induce it into the cockpit causing static as well. I just fixed this very same issue on a "J Model" the other day with a 530W and a 345 setup, which is really a moot point. The owner has had this issue for years and could not figure it out at various shops he went to. Once we fixed it, which we did, it was almost "too quiet". Good luck and if I can help, let me know.
  18. This is a good thing! I followed up on it and verified that this is a legitimate deal and it certainly is! Now we can help out others and get in compliance with a little helping hand!
  19. Well come on! You let me know when you will be here and we will make a spot for you. Like I said on the phone, I will make sure you have a ride to SMF to go home while we work on it. Call me so we can get this going for you before weather hits.
  20. http://www.radiorax.com/tray_mount/ yes is it will work wornderfully
  21. Look at Radiorax https://www.radiorax.com/ believe me, you're welcome!!!! They are amazing and will save you money when you want to upgrade later, because we ALWAYS do.
  22. I just sent you an estimate and can get you in ASAP. I have openings. Come on out!!!!
  23. If I am not mistaken, you would only really NEED it if you are shooting approaches with your AP. some AO take the MB and use it to desensitize the GS signal on approach when coupled to create a washout signal so you do not porpoise on a coupled approach. OTher than that, pretty much useless. IMHO.
  24. Thank you Michael for bringing that up. I am trying to get the new registration up and going and will touch bases with you once it is up and running! Great job this weekend!!!! IT was AMAZING!!!!!!
