  1. I don't feel their is a bias against Mooney's by AOPA. AOPA picked the 201 for their Millennium sweepstakes because they wanted something special to commemorate the turn of the century. The cover of the edition which featured the almost finished sweepstakes airplane was "Prize of the Century". Previously, the "best" airplanes they gave away was an Arrow and a Cessna 206. The Mooney is far sexier and efficient than either of them.
  2. Sl15 audio panel, sl30 nav/com, flight stream 210, strike finder, Aspen 1000 pro pfd, vm1000 engine monitor. The issue is, I get the static on the ground with all this stuff off. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. I have recently had a530W installed in my panel in place of a GX60. Also installed a Garmin 345 transponder to be ADSB compliant. A couple months after the install, I started to get intermittent static where the Comm breaks squelch. Initially, it wasn't too bad and I basically ignored it. However, it became so bad, that the Comm was basically useless as it drove me nuts with all the static. It seems to send and receive effectively, but the static otherwise drove me nuts. Long story, short - the avionics shop who installed the radio has not yet been able to determine root cause. Even consulting with Garmin has been unfruitful. Any ideas?

  5. Had a fantastic time flying into Oshkosh with the Mooney Caravan. Left Thursday. Departed 27 and flew runway heading for a few miles before ATC turned me east and basically took me over the airport. Here is a pic just before entering the cloud deck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  7. Enjoyed my time at the Danville Clinic. Big thank you to KP my instructor er.. sorry .. safety pilot. I could not have done it without you. See ya'all in Madison.
  8. I'm 6'2" and had 3" rudder pedal extensions in my J and could not even get my legs under the panel with them installed. Took them out and it is perfect. Still on the last hole though. I do have long legs.
  9. Just had a 530W and Garmin 345 Adsb installed. During the test flight parts of the engine monitor stopped working - it the primary (read only) engine gauges so they are required. So, the airplane is grounded until it gets back. A 2 week job into it’s 7 the week. Sorry. Just venting a little. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. My first airplane crashed killing the student pilot onboard. Looked it up a few years after we sold it. I was pretty bummed that it had crashed, but was even more sad that a young student pilot lost her life in it - very tragic. She hit the top of a truck while landing at an unfamiliar airport. The highway passed pretty close to the end of the runway and she mis-judged her landing angle.
  11. Labor to remove MX20, GX60 & annuciator, Install 530W, flight stream 210, and GTX 345 is $4000 (50 hrs).
  12. I have also booked the Sleep Inn and Suites. See you there.

  17. You are correct, it is the AOPA give-a-way airplane from 2000. I like the avionics a lot less than I thought I would. I am comfortable with the 430/530 GPS's and have a 530 to put in. The MX20 has a lot of lines in it and I don't find it useful. I was looking at the PS7000 audio panel as it is supposed to be a drop in replacement for the SL15. This piece is more of a want than a need because after all it is only an audio panel, but I really don't like it that much, but it works. I was planning to pull the GX60 as I wouldn't need it but pulling it leaves empty panel space and if I can't get much resale for it, I might as well keep it for redundancy. The PS 7000 also has 3 com inputs so it should work for this scenario. Any idea how much the GX60 is worth if I pull it?
  18. I am planning a panel upgrade. Currently i have a whole stack of UPS avionics consisting of SL15 audio panel, MX20 display, SL30 nav/com, GX60 GPS, SL70 transponder. I am planning to replace the MX20 with a Garmin GNS 530W and replacing the transponder with a Garmin GTX 345 to comply with ADSB. I am considering replacing the audio panel with a PS Engineering 7000BT. Should i remove the GX60 GPS or keep it as a back up / 3rd com? Is there any value in the avionics i am removing?
  19. Hi Tracy - I am in the Detroit area and would be more than happy to fly over to meet you sometime. I can’t do it in the next couple of months though due to my schedule. Probably would be more fun for you when it is warmer anyway. A couple months ago, I purchased the Mooney refurbished and given away by AOPA in 2000. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  21. I like it. How much do you have invested in it?
  22. I find it interesting that the 2nd highest accident rates occurred at cruise. Generally, this is considered a pretty safe phase of flight. Any ideas what are the common causes during this phase? Fuel shortage perhaps?
  23. This may be a good educational point for me[emoji848]. Not sure what you mean by 1mil smooth. I was quoted 1mil combined single limit for an additional $400 / year. I opted for the cheaper option with 100k limit per passenger. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
