  1. A reminder to all you Mooney drivers who have TKS. Check the stall strips and ensure it is still bonded well to the wing. It's a $1200 replacement part. Re-gluing it isn't difficult but does take a little patience and time. Don't ask me how I know....
  2. Where are you located?
  3. She looks like a nice bird! Let us know how it goes! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I missed the part that you are working towards your IR rating. In that case I would absolutely recommend TKS. As mentioned, it provides a extra margin of safety but you ultimately need to evaluate your mission and how you fly and in which conditions. Personally, I wish I had waited for a FIKi bird now, but I’m not planning to upgrade either at this point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I probably wouldn’t if you are VFR only and plan to stay that way. With TKS, you typically lose a significant amount of useful load and is just another system to maintain. That being said, I have it on my J and really like having it. TKS in a J model is not FIKi certified but it does give a little peace of mind and a bit more time to get out of an icing situation. 6. Who did you order it from? I ordered wingtip lenses from Great Lakes Aero which were out of stock and they produced it pretty quickly - probably within a week. I live close enough I just picked it up. They also produce windshelds.
  7. Interesting article but it seems to have a few “interesting” points! “and the Mooney M20J’s elevator pitch was accomplished by moving the entire tail assembly, a low-drag solution that added to the Mooney’s speed advantage over other four-seat single-engine airplanes.” I don’t know about your Mooney, but mine has normal elevators with movable tail for trim[emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I bought one on ebay awhile ago. Keep looking, you might get lucky.
  9. I’ve had this issues a few times on my J. Twice it was a broken wire in the area of where the wire exits the yoke at the bottom and once a bad micro switch (1 of 3) in the trim switch itself. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Sounds like a broken wire somewhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. A 201 wing just popped up on Barnstormers. https://www.barnstormers.com/classified-1630985-Mooney-201-wing-assembly.html?catid=20590
  12. Not sure about windows but I purchased a wingtip lens from them and picked it up in a few days (less than a week) as they didn’t have the RH side in stock so they had to make it. Good people. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. My kneeboard always resides in my airplane and never in the flight bag (I did bring it inside for the clinic but that’s about it). I had a plane aluminum one previously but it is nowhere near as comfortable. BTW - I do really like the Lift shoes too. Great for formation flying when using lots of rudder…. 14. I also have the Lift kneeboard. It does everything thing I need it to do. It’s comfortable, nice size and has a pen holder. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I don’t have one in my panel… Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Don't under estimate the economics of car parts Vs aircraft parts. Volume alone is a huge factor. Manufacturing process for millions of parts are quite different to hundreds of parts. Prototype vehicles (which the auto companies will build a few hundred) will cost millions each largely due to how the components are manufactured and how the vehicles are assembled (by hand). Aircraft manufacturing isn't all that different from prototype vehicle manufacturing. It's not practical to compare automobiles to aircraft - the scale effect is huge.
  17. I have a set I would part with. $250?
  18. PM me with your make, model and year of your vehicle. I’ll check if it is one that my company makes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. A replacement window regulator can be surprisingly inexpensive. Check your local auto parts store’s website and check for a replacement. I suspect your repair won’t last too long. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Check with them. In Michigan you don’t have to pay if you’ve paid the use tax or sales tax in another state - unless the other states tax is less, then you pay the difference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I’d be happy if it was only 2%. It’s 6% in Michigan. I know a few other states are even higher. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Did you find a set?
  23. Is this the combination strobe / position light? If so, I have one. I bought a replacement a couple of years ago because mine was not working and it turned out it was a connection issue. They are expensive....
  24. Swap left and right bulbs. Does it follow the bulb or the wingtip? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I love winter flying - except for the cold[emoji23]. Experienced the biggest headwind I have ever had over Lake Michigan - still unwilling to trade altitude for better speed over water. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
