So, what are the CB ways of knowing what a 3 degree sight picture in my Mooney is? PAPIs at / ILS/RNAV approach to a commercial airport? I guess I do need the 6 HITS anyway. Some kind of AoA device, fancy top of the line Garmin gear? Doesn't necessarily pass the CB test. Or is it enough to calculate a distance, height, and target descent rate at approach speed? Is that precise enough, or am I too optimistic? Home field does not have any approaches, and no instrumentation.

I don't think we can legally overlay GPS over here. But prob99 I will ditch my ADF when panel time comes. Will definitely keep DME somehow, either as part of the KNS80 I already have, or as a standalone unit, if I can source one cheaply.

Running the engine with removed belly panels

I believe it is standard practice to do a run up after maintenance / oil change that way. Low power, short time. I do it every oil change. (sorry, I misunderstood, and thought you meant the cowling, hence the answer I gave) -
A field approval was done for a TB20, so I don't see why one couldn't be done for a M20... See this post / thread for reference.

SEM paint I owe MS an update on my interior redo, which I will get to in due time, but the amount of work vs results obtained is IMO worth the effort.

Do keep in mind Sue is on Swiss reg, so the usual N-reg ways won't work. Sue, to be honest, I would look for a mechanic / shop that is more reasonable. You can do A LOT of stuff the FAA way on privately owned planes under EASA. If you are at a loss, perhaps try talking to Malte Holtken from https://aufwind.aero/ - he works with EASA on things like CS-STAN. You also might want to join EuroGA and look around there. Whatever you do, don't let your current shop put anything in any logbook.

I mean, it's your money / Mooney, you can skip the checks altogether, except, maybe, during a flight review / check ride. Others have already given you ideas on how to work the gear check into your workflow, let's leave it at that. -
Here is a picture Anthony asked for; the fuel sender is just above. Yes, I'll replace the hose bit as well, we have just enough left over from some Piper the guys were doing a few weeks back.

Thanks, all. @GEE-BEE AEROPRODUCTS - sending a flat piece of gasket off to sunny CA for duplication doesn't make sense to me, due to the turnaround time. With all due respect, I think I can find a shop that will be able to do it for me, or, even do it myself - it's a flat piece of gasket, not some convoluted 3D shape. That said, when the time comes, I will be buying your baffling and possibly hoses. @N201MKTurbo - that would be true if I had some tank sealant around I do not, and this is Cessna (and Tecnam) country so I'm SOL. But I think I am going to need to find some avgas-compatible sealant to put on the screw threads, as they seem to be seeping too. @carusoam - as a matter of fact I do will post down below, but it seems to me we're close to solving this gasket thing; we're staying safe, thanks, and trying to help those less fortunate, that are taking the heat this time around; as you know, it is a team effort, with all of the civilized world pitching in, we just happen to be right next door. @M20Doc - this is almost exactly what I want to do, but I wanted to use a modern day material, instead of trying to figure out what Mooney used in 1980. So, to summarize, fluorosilicone is the material I want to duplicate in, correct? I was thinking nitrile rubber (NBR) should also work, we use it on cars, and I should have a sheet or three somewhere in the garage. Thoughts?

Greetings from Poland! Seems I have a minor fuel seep on the fuel outlet on one wing; the seepage is evident both by blue stains and by avgas smell. It seems to come through both the 4 screws that attach it, and the gasket itself. The IPC lists the gasket as pn 610261-001 (section 28-20-00, part of item 58). Lasar want $65 for one, but also refer to 462-021, which seems to be a gasket for a fuel sender (bigger hole inside, 5 screws). Pretty expensive, and a long wait for me, with shipping to Poland. Two questions: - the gasket doesn't seem to be particularly complicated, so I am wondering if I could just OPP one, and if so, what would you suggest to use as the source material? - should I use some kind sealant on the screws, or a washer from the same material the gasket is made of? Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated!

Yep, guilty as charged. Hey Wojtek. Not much to add, as the guys wrote, fly it and have fun. Make sure gear is down two or three times, perhaps on downwind when you lower it, base, and short final. You can always go around. That's about it. Good luck, good to "meet" a fellow Mooniac. If you need anything, feel free to reach out, but it seems like you have it all under control. Didn't know you guys had a M20M and a M20T at your club. Can you share the rates you charge? Does your club do IR training? -
In my 1980 M20K there is a wire with an in-line fuse very close to the battery box in the avionics bay. I'd bet money yours is the same. It will likely be on the battery side of the power relay. Mine keeps blowing randomly, tracing the wire to find where it broke is on my to-do list. Tracing it back from the panel would be hard, as the wire is most likely hidden in a bundle of other wires running under the interior plastics.

If only you were giving away the Garmin one... I already bought a Jepp from someone, so I'll let some other lucky CB take you up on your offer, but it turns out I need a Garmin branded one as well. Thanks for being generous!

Probably depends which side of Tucson, but start with https://www.flytucson.com/ I think the rates at KTUS are quite reasonable, and KRYN must be cheaper still. Not sure on availability. For me it was Sheppard for the written; for EFBs I started off with FltPlan Go on an Ipad, but later added Avare on an Android phone, because I liked the moving map better, kept FltPlanGo for the charts, because the iPad is slightly larger than the phone. Also, to me, focusing on the IR and just the IR was the key to get it all done. Take the two weeks you'll need off work, don't commit to any friends and family stuff during that time. Do ground prep and flying in the AM, stop somewhere for lunch, fly a bit more, debrief and study in the PM. Take a day off from flying if you feel you need to, I did, I believe it helped. At the end of the two weeks your head will hurt, your arm will be sore, and you'll have an IR, so you'll be able to get in the plane with your brother-in-law and fly for fun and experience. But for getting the rating, stack things in your favor by keeping them as simple as possible. The two are separate processes, IMO. As with the PPL, the IR is just another license to learn.

It might be worth doing a STC if you see a market for it outside of the US - getting a FAA STC "approved" under EASA is probably much easier than getting approval for a field approval. That said, that market probably isn't too big.
