  1. The question might have been directed at the planes that have servo failures, with said resistance proposed as a factor contributing to the failures...
  2. Mine just stayed in place; not 100% sure if we needed to remove anything - I seem to recall the Scott connector bezel, maybe? The gauge itself just sits on a riser.
  3. Imagine getting anything running Android certified ;-) (yes, I know, autocorrect, aneroid is probably too odd of a word for it)
  4. I confess to doing that - luckily with my M20K and the collapsible towbar there is enough clearance for the prop to spin freely, and there were people around - their frantic waves clued me to shut down and ask what was going on. Close call, definitely. One of our students took off in a C152 with the tow bar attached, and a FI on board. They landed safely.
  5. I believe Anthony means @Alan Fox - and I understand that the original poster is looking for an auxillary power receptacle.
  6. Not first hand, but there is a thread on the subject over on EuroGA - I believe the TLDR; summary is "not efficient enough for use in lieu of a O2 tank".
  7. You can always get burnt, but a good inspection by a knowledgeable and unrelated shop is the way to minimize that risk. Do price out insurance - it may very well be true that it is prohibitive to some prospective buyers. Reach out to @Parker_Woodruff for a quote. If the prop strike was handled correctly, then I'd not obsess over it. Mine had a nearly identical mishap a few years before i bought it. So far, so good.
  8. As a data point, I was around 80h TT when I got a normal M20K. Put probably around 80 on it the past 2.5 years. Like the others wrote, be prepared to spend unlimited $$$ to make it yours, or, at least, leave some cash on hand for the unevitable squawk that will come up. Also become friends with a smart A&P that knows a reasonable IA. All that written, go for it!
  9. Do it, it must be good for at least +5 kts ;-)
  10. FWIW my TSIO-360-LB1 doesn't seem to use much oil at all; I add maybe a quart between changes, but really just to feel better. Phillips 20W50 + Camguard.
  11. There are quite a few types of Ensolite on their page, can you please share which version is the best for this application?
  12. We do have a private provider that feeds data via a satellite phone data link (think Iridium) - https://www.ing-golze.de/ - their stuff is pretty good, made by pilots that actually fly. SiriusXM is limited in coverage to North America, more or less, so not applicable. First I've heard about WSI Weather - they say they provide "worldwide coverage for $39 / month" but I don't see anything about how they provide the data, and I can't seem to be able to navigate their web site at all - just a couple ConUS thumbnails.
  13. Thanks for referencing that thread - I even have it in my "followed" list but missed it. Will review in the AM. I am keeping the plastics, they are in fairly good shape - the original idea was to just clean them up and paint them with SEM. Unfortunately SB-208 reared it's ugly head at me, so here I am trying to order the right kind and amount of replacement foam That original fiberglass stuff is awful!
  14. As in, you got rid of the original plastic panels?
  15. Yeah, it was supposed to be a simple "paint the plastics with SEM while running some audio cables" job that escalated quickly.
  16. Thanks Anthony; I get your comment about doing the top ones in place, but I see some yellow stuff that looks like the fiberglass above the top panels, and I'd like to replace it with whatever I end up going with (SoundEx most likely). Perhaps just dropping them somewhat will be enough. I'm sure I'll have more questions when I start the actual work, I'll be sure to ping you here. Any idea how much of which SoundEx I need?
  17. Yeah, mostly unwelcome change though. We just recently got rid of calendar TBO enforcement for private ops, for example. And no way in hell are we getting in-flight weather...
  18. Thanks, @PilotX - removing the side panels was relatively trivial, but the two ceiling ones are a mystery. Any hints on those two? In my K the O2 stuff is on the side, so it just stayed put. To make the SoundEx stay put, you cut it tightly, and then alu-taped it do the skins, correct? edit: also, how much of which SoundEx did you end up using and did you do the whole plane (firewall to baggage compartment)?
  19. Nav data, I guess. I don't yet have any MFD that would display charts, so I'm stuck with EAD ones or whatever will come with the tablet app.
  20. We wanted to run headset wire to the rear seats and refresh the interior a bit. Read Bruce's guide, bought cans of SEM cleaner, paint, this, that and the other things. Pulled most of the interior and had to go get the real masks due to the amount of mildew in the foam used for insulation. Looks like SB-208 time. Here come the questions: - What is the trick to remove the two (?) roof plastic panels? Can't seem to figure it out, and don't want to break anything I don't have to, but I do want to clean / paint them. - The primer on the steel frame is flaking off; I plan to clean it all up with steel wool and apply epoxy primer. Will that work? Any tricks to get enough of the primer on the outside parts of the frame (blocked by the aluminum skins), or just a small brush and lots of patience? - Is "aluminum tape" we're supposed to use instead of duct tape the stuff they use on chimneys, etc? Looks like the kitchen stuff on a ~1" wide roll, with some glue on one side. - What do I use to replace the fiberglass with, and how much of it do I need (whole plane, firewall to baggage compartment)? Thing is, I'd prefer to source something locally than wait for a shipment from a MSC, Spruce or another US source, but if I must wait, I will. From a post by @PT20J I understand the stuff from Mooney is closed cell soundproofing foam from Buckley + mylar, someone recommended SoundEx from Spruce, but I can try to source some "Ensolite" (or equivalent) and run with that, correct? Asking, because Ensolite seems to be a US trade name and we likely call it something else here. - 208 says the new stuff is not supposed to touch the steel frame - does it mean I glue it to the skins? Use the 3M Dual Lock stuff? Use aluminum tape? What else do I do, if I'm this deep into the plane? No new windows, but I'll tint the ones I have (thanks @Skates97) but if I can source parts needed to do something that makes sense in reasonable time, why not.
  21. In the US I would not install a new DME. Over here I most likely will, when the time to get rid of the KNS80 comes. If anyone has a surplus DME free to a good home, let me know...
  22. Shepp say the IR written is the worst. Hopefully I'll catch up with you soon enough...
  23. Correct, we still cannot legally do substitution the way you can. There is a NPA (Notice of Proposed Ammendment) to allow some substitution, but I don't believe it has been implemented yet. The proposed text is below. AMC1 NCO.IDE.A.195(a) Navigation equipment RNAV SUBSTITUTION An RNAV system may be used to substitute for conventional navigation aids and radio equipment, without monitoring of the raw data from conventional navigation aids, under the following conditions: SCOPE OF RNAV SUBSTITUTION (a)RNAV substitution may be used in all the phases of flight except: (1) to provide lateral guidance in the final approach segment of an instrument approach procedure; and (2) to substitute for DME, if a DME transceiver is either not installed on the aircraft or found to be unserviceable before flight. Which kind of makes it useless for when needed, I'd think. This is from https://www.easa.europa.eu/sites/default/files/dfu/Draft%20AMC%20%26%20GM%20%28OPS%20and%20FCL%29%20Amendment%201.pdf
  24. I put kitty litter in an open plastic box in the cockpit; after a few weeks, I replace it with another batch, which I have previously baked in an oven at 125C / 260F for 2h.
  25. Does Garmin sell reasonable navdata for (all of) Europe?
