  1. Any further info? Meow!
  2. The one and only @M20Doc - closer to Toronto than Ottawa, but you're talking about a Mooney.
  3. Actually, the bit about going digital is true for the FCC as well, made me chuckle when I printed a PDF I paid $70 (my radio cert) and $250 (the plane's radio cert) to get had a big "Official Copy" overlaid across the whole page. To be rebellious, I printed it on A4 paper instead of letter - and I printed it out twice! The FAA permanent registration form came in via snail mail; the temp one was a PDF.
  4. Isn't that a belt from 4Q14? ;-) So the q becomes if he got a discount because the belt was new old stock...
  5. Nah, I was hoping one of Alan's would work for me. It's a "want" and a low priority one at that. No worries. I know I can pick one up from McFarlane or similar if I decide I can't fly without one.
  6. Yeah, the Arrow used to come with such a circuit. I don't think it was worthwhile, since it a) got ditched by Piper and b) usually was removed or - gasp - disabled by owners anyway.
  7. Don't some go as far as put on a second belt, just to get it past the prop when it is off, just so when the need arises, they can cut the bad belt, remove, put the spare one on and tighten?
  8. I've been trying to find out if any of those throttles would fit a M20K - can anyone tell me how long of a cable is needed? I'd like to install a vernier style throttle instead of the push/pull one I have now.
  9. I didn't buy the Acclaim, but I still have my N-reg 231 ;-) Still a couple years before I fly it to the Summit or Osh, but I will. Commercial is more likely in the "near" future. Heck, I was supposed to be packing for FL next week, damn you COVID. @Lucas - which tool do you need exactly? I do have the main gear preload tool I got from @Sabremech and I understand for electric gear this is the only one that is needed. If this is what you need, get in touch and we'll work something out.
  10. From reading MooneySpace I got the impression that you should start with a hangar. Should you come into one before you find a plane, buy the cheapest shell to put in it, if you can't sublet it, and intensify the search. Coincidentally I did the same thing, started leasing half a hangar three or so years before I found my plane.
  11. Back in 2016 a Socata TB20 with 4 POB was downed by a vulture, en-route at 6400 ft. aviation-safety.net has a link to the CIAIAC (Spanish NTSB) report has the details.
  12. None hidden in the gear well or thereabouts? ;-)
  13. On the other side of the pond, my policy did not change one bit, still the same 2130 EUR (about $2500) for 65k EUR hull and 6m EUR CSL (which I think is the equivalent of what you call "smooth"). Low hours, no IR, not too close to retirement age.
  14. Or they can get an Avidyne ;-)
  15. FWIW, my OPP cowl landing light lens cost around $15... Waiting on a new set of screws and washers for it to arrive, it so perty, I just had to get shiny new ones... Fully granted that it is the easiest piece to OPP, but still makes me smile.
  16. The decibel (dB) is not linear, it is a logarythmic scale unit - so a difference between 78dB and 80dB is not around 2%, it is closer to 60% difference. I'm sure the resident mathematicians will correct my back-of-the-napkin comment. Also see this article on sciencing.com.
  17. Yeah, you guys had that discussion with MS just recently. So just proves my point - go fly!
  18. OK, you made me go look - quoting from the PMA450B page at ps-engineering.com: NOTE: additional wiring to implement flightmate® is required when upgrading from either GARMIN* GMA340 or PMA8000 series audio panels. Which is weird, because the flightmate page at ps-engineering.com says flighmate comes with the PMA8000G as well as the PMA450B. BTW: flightmate® - Advanced Digital Audio Recording System found in the PMA8000G and PMA450B. It is NOT just a replay of what you heard, quoting: This internal digital recording system allows the pilot to create custom audio alerts, create checklists, and acts as a continues loop recorder for primary radio receptions.
  19. Wouldn't the PMA450B want an extra wire or two to show it's full capabilities above and beyond the 8000? That said, one might want it for the USB-C port alone...
  20. This Probably cost-prohibitive to ship to the US.
  21. I'd budget more time. Better to have a pleasant surprise than an unpleasant one. Mine took a few weeks, including a hail storm in the area where the plane was tied down outside while visiting.
  22. FWIW, a Peter from EuroGA did a 337 for installing this extra alternator on a TB20 not too long ago; granted that's a Lyco IO-540, not a Conti, but it can be done reasonably. I can look up the thread there if there is interest, but I'd think that the 337 posted above and a friendly FSDO get us Mooney folk well on our way to get this done.
  23. So, basically, you have an extra $25000 for gas and $2500 for the oil changes to burn it all. Have fun!
  24. Dang that's expensive. This side of the pond ~5 USG (20 liters) of ethylene glycol rated to -80C (-112F) costs $40. They say it meets ASTM D 3306. Used for heat pumps and other green stuff.
  25. The formula from EuroGA is: 85% Ethylene Glycol 10% Water 5% Isopropyl Alcohol So basically Ethylene Glycol is all you need; everything else most likely is in your hangar already.
