  1. That plane crashed...I had a contract on it when Mark’s son while working on his commercial with a CFI dumped it in at Deervalley.
  2. Welcome...Photos Please!
  3. That was out standard VFR low level. 300AGL modified contour. We would then pop up to 800AGL over the drop zone. It was a lot of fun, but I had three others in the cockpit with me sharing the navigation.
  4. Spent a few years flying C-130s @ 300AGL, still not something to mess around with.
  5. Don't worry, he is in there! It's easy to smile at the beginning of a Mooney flight with the family.
  6. He did not get his license until 2014, a year after retirement. So he had logged about 160-200 hours per year. I saw a quote where he told his dad that flying the Icon low over the water makes you feel like your flying a fighter. Low level operations can be very unforgiving, although this may have nothing to do with the accident.
  7. @M20FanJesseI finally got a picture wearing my X-Mas shirt with my plane.
  8. Not a dumb question, but yes on both. The software update is free, but only a licensed Garmin dealer can load it on the box, so you get to pay for their time.
  9. Really? We have these on our work aircraft for our weather radar, TCAS, and GCAS. It also works to view video, but that is another story. What do you have tied into yours?
  10. I never fly VOR to VOR for work or in my personal aircraft. I always back up the GPS with VORs out of habit, but unless the GPS constellation fails or is hacked one of my 3 GPSs is probably going to get me where I am headed. Also, most airfields have RNAV approaches. This weekend I flew an LPV to reported minimums (400 OVC) I actually broke out at about 700AGL. I could not have even attempted going to the field without RNAV capability. VORs are being decommissioned and their associated approaches are being replaced with RNAV. There was a time that I was required to stay current flying NDBs, it is no longer required which is good since it is hard to find an operational NDB. I will fly VOR approaches for currency if one is available, but I will not go searching for one to fly. Heck even ILSs are becoming harder to find, at least ones not down UFN for maintenance.
  11. In 1954 Chrysler built 2079 New Yorkers. How many are still running and with their original engine? Probably impossible to know, however I guarantee it is higher than the number of 1954 Mooneys flying with their original non-overhauled engine, even if it is just one.
  12. I cant speak for everyone, but your maintenance insights are a great help and truly appreciated by myself. I for one was the recipient of a maintenance manual from you and your wife - Thank You!
  13. I own a 1954 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe with a 331 Hemi. Runs just fine, has never been overhauled, has sat at times for months without running (it is garaged in Montana). It leaks a bit of oil, so it is probably time to crack it open and replace the seals.
  14. Both of my quotes had identical coverage.
  15. I got two quotes from AOPA one with STARR for $1140 and Global for $833. If they were just chasing commission they would have not showed me the Global quote as I was with STARR the past couple of years.
  16. I'm use AOPA and my renewal this year is through Global.
  17. The only two times I have had the door pop open was when I allowed a Mooney owner with more Mooney experience than I.
  18. Yeah, I know - totally derailed the thread - sorry. On the actual thread, I wore my Mooney Christmas shirt this past weekend. It is great and only my 13 year old scoffed at a Christmas shirt before Halloween. @M20FanJesseI will try to get a picture my next time at the hangar. I will have to post it here because I am not active on other social media.
  19. I don't think you are helping your case.
  20. Hmm...someone need a girlfriend, hey @Maraudercan you hook a young lad up?
  21. Above the red glide warning is a box currently stating 11K, that is the slider he was referring to.
  22. Should read something like this... This is from Aircraft Spruce's site...
  23. Check you insurance policy. This is how mine reads: US, Canada, Mexico, Bahamas and en route Including AK and HI. (excludes Belize). I never planned to fly to Belize so I did not inquire into the reason for the exclusion.
  24. Mine is mounted on the ceiling with Velcro. It works upside down as long is it is that way when it powers on and runs its calibration. Never liked having it on the glare shield as it blocks too much visibility.
  25. YEP! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
