Alex's M20D (continuous thread)
madjano replied to Raptor05121's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Man, that sucks. I sent mine up and got back from AWI in less than 3 weeks in March. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -
Is the avionics guy Keith Peshak? Just curious who you sent it too.

Camping equipment at KOSH with Caravan arrivals
madjano replied to Bob_Belville's topic in General Mooney Talk
I have slept in hammocks on the side of mountains, foam backpack mattress, army cots (terrible), bedspring cots/w mattress (nice, but to bulky for mooney), and I find this to be the best compromise to get me off the ground now that I am a little bit wiser in years. Like I said it was better than I remember, but I was sleeping with my 50lb 7 year old and I am FAA standard size. So we didn't end up with everything "meeting in the middle". I suggest that you try it at home first, being it's from Wally Mart, should be an easy return if you hate it, or just keep it for the little ones when they overnight. I just had a thought that maybe two twins would be better for two adults. Jan -

Just had it out last weekend with the boys and it wasn't as bad as I remembered. If you don't have AC power, you can get a little DC pump to plug in ship's power to inflate. -
There's a good chance I'll be there this Saturday. I'll be wearing my Mooney t shirt. Jan Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

I had left main go flat on roll out training in the Cherokee. It seemed to just get soft fast after landing and before I knew it, I was putting in full right rudder to keep it on center. CFI didn't even notice at first til it started riding a little rough. He just gave her some throttle and we taxied off on to the ramp. It was kind of a long walk back to the FBO, but great training experience. CFI was bound and determined not to leave that thing on 17 at KLNK.

I know i paid over $300 for the Concorde. Think it was from Chief. Put it in and logged it myself. But who are we to knock a shop for charging a $100 or so for install. There is more than just shop's labor in an hourly rate. Beauty of the free market, you could always get another quote...

To Powerflow or not to Powerflow - That is the question
madjano replied to Bart Chilcott's topic in General Mooney Talk
It's a vintage Mooney, looks are a big part of the equation for me. And a polished bird will pick up a knot for free. My point to the OP is there are some good weld shops out there with a fairly quick turnaround if not in stock. I think PF had one on the shelf if I wanted it in a couple days, it's all about choices. I'm sure Dmax has his opinion too. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -

Can't say enough good things about AWI. On time, as quoted, and fit perfectly. The welding really is art. Not knocking Bob or PF, I just don't like the looks of the tail pipe. Not so bad on Mooney's but I think they look ridiculous on 172s. Guess I'm in the CB club. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -
Looking at Mooneys (M20E particularly)
madjano replied to andymccann's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Ya full tanks to empty pretty much straight up and down on the plot. That was a big reason going Mooney over old Bo. I can tell u load up the luggage compartment in the E. I am amazed how much better cruise speeds are. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk- 66 replies

JPI also recommends keeping their leads away from the plug wires. I just installed mine this annual and mentioned it to my mechanic. He said he has never had problems running them along with the plug wires. But if JPI recommends it..... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

I have a short rudder and practice up to 10kt no worries. Typically I cross control on final and maybe closer to 80 mph or gust factor.. I have yet to run out of rudder. If you don't like what you see, go around. Living in Nebraska, you wouldn't be flying much if you waited around for calm days. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

M20J Castle Nut tolerance/clearance on Mains
madjano replied to KB4's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I was wondering how to grease that just last week. I know it needs to be greased but couldn't find the zerk. Thought it might be on of those we have to swing the gear to get to, but didnt feel it on top. -

Ya, my quote for the muffler was $700, and we will see on the downs. My AP said that the ball joint type seal up better than slip joints. I know new w slip joint is going to be $2000, but have in stock. Im thinking if thats ribbed muffler though, that i would neef new shroud too? Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

AP didn't like seeing the white streaks on main exhaust so i pulled the muffler... Bead blasted questionable spots and didnt see anything on main out, but did see start of crack and you can clearly see bulge on right side. Sending in to AWI, they wanted down tubes also. Im thinking in back of my mind about just getting all "new" slip joint unit. Will the SB allow for a conversion on my core to slip joint if they find down tubes are shot too? Probably have them weld the egt holes and move them up a couple inches, get rid of the farmyard engineering and replacing the old EI w/JPI. On another note, how often do you check torque on your engine mounts? J Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Flashbacks, i had 73 Opel GT Weber carb, headers, other mods i think from c and r out east. Always wanted to do the SCCA thing, but folks frowned upon it. Lots of bloody knuckles with that car changing out TO bearing and clutch plate. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

We had a great one in NOFK Norfolk, NE. Barnstormers. They turned the old terminal into the restaraunt. The kids loved going upstairs and watching airplanes come and go. Always busy when we were there, but somehow owners got way behind on taxes and rent. One owner was even on the city council as i recall. Cheap gas, 2 huge runways, close in to town, great place to stop on a long XC. Oh well... going to have to hit Miami Co K81 more often for BBQ!

Yup, for the wing inspection panels.

My mechanic swears the SS screws heat up more going in and make it PITA to get them out next go. Any truth to this?

Okay, I probably get the CB award for hangers, Old T-hanger with sliders, but on the end close to the ramp, and have 220V outlet. $70 per month, but i get a 10% discount for paying for the year in advance. Sure it leaks a little, and i have to blow the dust and grass clippings out once a month, but the doors are a good leg work out. Even got ground crew to knock down the snow drifts a little lower for the Mooney. Not by choice, but the nice hangers do not have any turnover. Supposed to be getting new ones this year, but I'm not complaining. Closer timewise than driving to Lincoln airport and much cheaper. Best of all, great service from the FBO.
