To Powerflow or not to Powerflow - That is the question
madjano replied to Bart Chilcott's topic in General Mooney Talk
I’ve probably got 150 hrs on it now. -
Forgot how hard it was to get the gear up on a go arounds after doing a few approaches with the CFI. Of course I was above 80 and positive rate of climb.
-
Seems like you could get to it by removing the interior panel, but i have never specifically looked.

My mechanic says my elevator bungees have more play in them than he would like to see. You can wiggle the nut in the tube a little bit. So I started looking for replacements and found this post from Alex in 2012 And then my mind started racing and thought about this post Granted the assembly failed at full deflection during run up, and I doubt that the downed pilot would have been using full deflection during take-off, but there is always the what if. Any way, is there any way of rebuilding these (mine is 740040-1)? What is the allowable play in these? I didn't find the answer anywhere in the service manual.

Alan - is that air intake boot still available? is it for an E or F? How big are the holes in it???
-
Well crap, my boot went from a few frays last year to I can get 2 fingers through the bottom. Now Mooney is telling Lasar and SWTA that because of quality assurance issues they are going back to the manufacturer to revise their materials. I guess this is good on Mooney to be proactive and fix an ongoing problem on this part. But.... I need a boot! Duct tape anyone? I also tried Top Gun, Dugosh, Oasis and Maxwell. If anybody knows of one on a shelf somewhere, I'd be interested.

Yup, the 3M wheel with PPG Ditzo is was what i used, i had 50 years of gunk on mine, some places more than 1/8" thick. Key is to get it clean and wipe it again to get the oils from your hands off with the Ditzo. Hit it at annual with some spray silicone. I have had no issues since i replaced almost 2 years ago. A bag of clothespins to hold it in place every few inches while applying helps.

I did get it out without taking the lower cowl off. Can't recall what order, but believe I had to remove the exhaust risers too. I sent it all in, and they replaced it all. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Why Isn’t G.A. Integrated into Reality Based T.V.?
madjano replied to MyNameIsNobody's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I'd totally watch that. Only thing I watch now is Pickers and Paw Patrol. I know a few producers, but TV and Film is not their medium. Surely somebody, somewhere has to be pitching this. -
Well this couldn't have been good for my engine.

I've replaced the entire exhaust without pulling the entire bottom cowl. You can get the shroud off too. I got the scars to prove it. -
Central Plains fly-out lunch 3/24 Paola, KS K81

Ya, I am supposed to be at KIXD next Saturday if this weekend didn't work, and then it's time for annual. Dream - you should check out Barnstormers at KOFK too. Haven't been there since they reopened, but was always fun and great airport to fly into. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -

I'd be interested in coming down, but would be in afternoon as the boys have an Easter egg hunt in the am. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -
GAMI or stock. I've been able to get my stock injectors to run pretty smooth to 40 lop, at about 9ish gph. When I try it w/ram air open it gets rough below 15 lop. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Ah, I'm having flashbacks of Le Corbusier from architecture class! Wonder if Al Mooney applied it. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

I have the FlyQ lifetime, Steve P and Seattle Avonics are going to be around for a while. There openness in both protocol and customer service is what will keep this happening. I agree with others that it really comes down to what you are used to, but it really gets my goat that Garmin and Stratus lock everybody else out just to protect their efb subscriptions. I think it is a huge improvement over the GE, Seems to have a better wash on the sides and I like that LED 5K white light. Seems to light up the reflective paint of the runway better. I thought about getting the "non pma'd" 8 degree whelen, but I dont like to put undue pressure on my AP. And yes I wired it wrong the first time, but fortunately I didn't put it all back together before I tested it.

I've done no light landings on my night XC in training. I happened to check the light before CFI and I took off and noticed light was out. He was like - can we go?, i said legally yes, then asked him if he was comfortable with it and he said yes and it would be a good learning experience. Glad i did it. Found out my landing light was burned out over Chicago on my way to Coldwater, MI. Flying a 3hr leg into an unfamiliar airport with the family on board. Made the wife a little nervous, but really no issue. Follow the PAPI down. Keep it in the middle of the lights and over the green threshold lights. Gently sink into the black hole keeping the nose up. A squeaker. Wife said that was one of the best landings I've done. Now the hard part, getting to an unfamiliar ramp at an airport with no blue taxi lights! Just cell phone flash and a little flashlight hanging out the door and window. That was the hard part. When I got home had LANCECASPER order me up a Parmetheus Plus from ACS. Now the things I see during my early morning "laps" scare me. Literally a standoff on the taxi way with a coyote (thought it was the aiport dog at first). I'm sure with havest that the deer will be thick right now too. But nice to be able to just keep the light on all the time.

You can get a used EDM 700 with fuel flow and all the sensors for under 1AMU. I installed mine during annual and would guess i probably had 6 hours in it. Just did egt and cht for now. I had to upsize a circuit breaker, and drill egt's into my new risers (pneumatic drill is a great time saver on this.) I haven't done the fuel flow yet, as ran out of time to get hoses made. Might be a little old school but it's what I learned on and it is a rock solid piece of equipment that can give you everything you need to know. I ran 25F LOP on run to Michigan and was pleasantly surprised at the gas pump, like right under 10GPH for the whole trip. I like to be up above 8000' when i do, and hottest CHT was 330F. Doubt i will burn a cylinder at those temps, but would like to know FF so I could get the spread. Running stock (well not GAMI's anyway) injectors. And it totally give you a lot of information on whats going on inside, even watching the bars on run up can give you heads up on trouble ahead. Reading Mike Busch helps translate all that.

Alex's M20D (continuous thread)

I bent it in a benchvice and vice grips. The old one next to it broke where it was attached. That was my pattern. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk -

Alex, read on FB you dont have baffle rods under your cylinders. At my last annual I had to owner produce this out of stock steel dowel 1/8" i think, and then just threaded the ends. It was the cheapest, easiest fix i have ever made on my Mooney. IA loved it. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
