  1. Do you? "Realize that the system is NOT approved for approaches"...
  2. My wife's uncle liked Oldsmobiles. On his tenth purchase he personalized the plate: OLDSX His wife of 50 years was not amused... Everyone else was True story.
  3. Best thread ever. I must have been banned to have missed out the first go-around. Too funny. Born Driver Mocs...like wearing nothing...but with little nubbins. They slide on and off easy yet can be worn as casual attire.
  4. I had same problems with Gill. F'd up my battery box and went through a couple batteries before upgrading to a Concorde XC. That battery has never had a tender and just works. Probably, the battery has benefitted from the Zeftronics install, HID landing light (less drain) and lightweight starter BUT I would NEVER go back to a Gill. 100% satisfied customer. "Never Mind" the minder
  5. If that photo doesn't make you get a lump in your stomach and make you want to do a bee-line to the airport with a flashlight and a screwdriver... That is a face-palmer. Glad you caught "it".
  6. Looks like T.C to me....Texas.
  7. Been there. The sealant at the top of the tanks is more prone to drying out and leaking. Told this is because fuel cools sealant that is exposed in a hot summer tank over decades. Deteriorates and weeps. NOT a safety of flight, but if seap is running as shown in photo...needs re-sealed. I would store for years with minimal fuel...or I would lose it, over time. I had fuel smell in cabin with fuel sender seal deterioration...wet rear carpets...had ALL the fun. Minnesota got me squared away. Paul will solve your problem and the constant dread will be just a memory. Not cheap, but leaking fuel in an airplane. NOT a good feeling...Hope resolution is smooth and only causes some pain to pocketbook...like all things aviation. Great photos and discussion in this thread.
  8. Interesting. Conrad, how significant was the "adjustment" that needed to be made? Weird others have not had this occur? Glad you resolved.
  9. Jeez Dave. The comparison was to a VW. I stated that the Mooney is not slow...like a vintage air cooled 911. The Mooney has a tight back seat and a sexy shape...like a vintage 911. I didn't say it handles like a Porsche. My thoughts are that it resembles a Porsche MUCH MORE than a Bug. I have ZERO problem with how my E "handles". It is predictable and simple to operate...like a vintage Porsche. In the air less is more to me. On the highway around "others" I will take ABS, and all the other various "S's" that a modern Porsche offers...including speed.
  10. Or a 25knot tail wind (Last Friday) at 7500 feet! WhEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeee!
  11. Oversize mouthed bottle of Gatorade. Empty.
  12. You are so out of the CB club
  13. As I like to say to my son "Driver?" "I nearly killed 'er".
  14. But it still won't handle like a 911
  15. Kerry...You are so very...merry....in your comparison of a Mooney to...a Prius. With words you have shoved a blunt objet into my eye and broken it off within the orifice. In summary...Ouch, THAT hurts. I get that Toyota has made a "winning" vehicle in efficiency with their Prius. For those that choose to own and operate them..."Good for you". We covered the "buy American" in this thread. We now have moved into the "environmental aspects" of the thread. Batteries vs. lead...talk amongst yourselves. The Buick Rendevous and Toyota Prius. Which is more "Beautiful" to behold. Oh, I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. Sorry I need to go take care of that...
  16. Bennett, did you see the Fiat based on the Miata? Looks very nice. A Miata is age appropriate to anyone that "pilots" (A nod to my Canadian northern neighbor) a Mooney.
  17. In the "I can tow whatever I want" vehicle?
  18. Fair enough. I have been a lover of the Ghia for years. Just more of a "pre-driven" Porsche guy when it comes to auto's and actually putting one in the garage. Many update the HP/brakes/stereo/suspension, but I prefer ABS and daily driver reliability in my autos. Plane with '60's engine (since rebuild) has ticked away nicely for 700 hours. Probably shouldn't have put that in print. Jumangi will smite me...
  19. Thank you. I do. They are NOT fast. What is the HP rating of a Ghia? The old 60's versions with two tone paint are beautiful, like a Mooney, but No, not feeling it.
  20. NOPE. Air-Cooled VW's are underpowered and are NOT fast and efficient. A Mooney is "an air-cooled 911 Porsche" in the sky. Fast. Low slung. Tight back seat. Simple. Elegant. Form follows function. Beautiful to look at like a sports car. You strap it on and go. VW. F that. A Mooney is a sports car. when "driven" well and efficiently it is the Mac-daddy. A VW? Whatever....
  21. Had a dream flight today. Lately I have been getting a head wind or benign winds on trips. Today I had a true tailwind at 7500. I had speeds of 168-175 knots in cruise with a nice push from the south ALL THE WAY. 1.7 on a normal 2.0-2.5 flight. Burning 10.4 30LOP it was awesome. A Mooney was on base when I was 5 SW. I landed on 14 and taxied in to fuel pumps. No wave. Exited at pumps and saw him skulk away. REALLY? Doesn't compute with me. A nice 201...Took "my spot" on the ramp. Just goes to show that "not every Mooney driver wants to talk about how fast they got there and on how little fuel. Whatever dude. Enjoy the Northwoods. My son and I did. FYI...A wave to a fellow Mooney driver is free and costs you a total of two seconds. Or just be a dick and skulk away like a thief in the night....Photo to follow.
  22. Talk about a target rich environment. No thanks.
  23. O.K. I need a little education on the traffic altitude targets. I purchased the Garmin ADSB glarescreen unit (for weather) and recently I have been getting a lot more traffic indications BESIDES commercial traffic. Scenario: I was at 8500 feet traveling at 250 degrees magnetic. I had a target to my front left on ipad that was converging. Showed -4. Does that mean he was at 8100? What if it said -45 would that mean 4000? I NEVER saw the traffic. I was monitoring LaCrosse and he wasn't talking to them at the time. No altitude change by him. When the screen goes to a dedicated aircraft on whole screen what is the size of the window in miles? Is that standardized? Why was I receiving that traffic without ADSB out installed? Why am I seeing better traffic detail? Thanks.
  24. My wife Kelly and I will be in Vegas 1/12. A great opportunity to meet and be shunned in person vs. through the internet. The idea of flying commercial for a "Mooney gathering" seems silly. I love Vegas, but I am not flying there by GA from Midwest. Half the fun is seeing everyone's planes...other half is communicating face to face with those that I have only bantered with through broadband... My vote would be Atlanta. In the Spring. Or Austin.
