  1. Yes, but your audience there is only so much, do this over a sporting event, considering TFR's and look at the multiplication factor of social media.
  2. Or 2000 for leaks.... All three of the "big" guys mentioned have remarkably similar pricing, give or take a few hundred bucks. About $6000/tank for the 45 gallon ovation tanks.
  3. Has anybody had their leather redyed (redied??, stained, painted, etc and whatever) to get a little more life out of it? My interior leather is basically probably just super dirty and worn in dirt over 17 years. No cracks or anything enough to make me want to replace it yet. Hoping to do just do something to buy some time and squander my resources on other things.....like leaky tanks, ADSB, KI-256, the usual.... Asking here before I go into the wide world of the internet. Thanks, Mark
  4. I think you have to realize insurance is a gamble either way. Sometimes you might win and sometimes you might lose but all along you are paying premiums every year. I think a lot of it depends on your comfort level with risk. As a side story I own a building inherited from my father who never believed in insurance. I look at adding it and they want me to insure it for $16 million which is replacement value. But realistically it is 100 years old cobbled together steel, block and old wooden structure and it only appraises at $1.5 million. Talk about moral hazard, as soon as I start paying premiums on a $16 million building I am thinking about encouraging smoking and huge tornados.....
  5. I am typed in the CL350.....but it never showed up on the ramp....owner sold, the delivery position for several million dollar profit in 2007...... Anyway in training I remember it climbing like that in the sim and I was thinking this is going to be a fun airplane....was upgrading from 500 series citations.
  6. My understanding is that float/amphib operations are hazardous in general. Thought I saw a statistic that a vast majority of them have been in incidents/accidents. Just the nature of it I guess.
  7. I don't think they poop in flight, seems like they just poop everywhere us humans walk.
  8. The only reason I haven't bought one is I would still be walking up to the right side of plane to get in it. I moved my silverware drawer from the right side of sink to the left about 8 months ago, still keep checking the right side. I think I will get it down in another 6-8 months....maybe.
  9. Is that a minor modification or major modification requiring STC and/or field approval?
  10. I would fight it, our founding fathers have some rather brilliant quotes about liberty and giving it up a little bit at a time. Unfortunately I can't find them right now but this is exactly the type of nonsense they were referring to.
  11. This rotting away process isn't unique to planes, just closer to our hearts. Look at any boatyard, old classic cars, houses, etc. I think it is just human nature and part of first world living. We have too much and can't take care of it all.
  12. I don't have to cannibalize any new installs if I were to go with Dynon, no ADSB, Moritz gauges and KI-256. The Dynon hopefully would solve a lot of future problems and provide some additional features. I can almost guarantee it will be released for Mooney's shortly after I do some type of upgrade. I am happy with Garmin 430W's.
  13. Does anybody know if you HAVE to buy their autopilot? I have a KFC 225 that is working well, knock on wood, not saying it wouldn't make sense to upgrade, just curious.
  14. How many of you all are Aggies? Gig' em. Mark '91
  15. I took it to Rudys aircraft instruments in Rudy AR, I live nearby. Picking it up tomorrow, what I saved in freight will probably be offset by the sales tax (communist blood suckers). That price looks about the same, but they had 2 day turnaround for me. Will advise when reinstalled.
  16. I can't say I disagree with ditching vacuum AI, I see that coming in the next few years, but the million dollar question is with what? The whole Dynon Skyview system looks like a solution, ADSB, engine monitor, flight instruments, etc. in one package. I am having the AI overhauled for couple hundred bucks and only 3-4 days down time. Needed to get it done. I am telling the posters who think it could be done from underneath, no way Jose. I have the blood stains to prove it. I see you have four AI's....do you think that is enough?
  17. Or is it already turned OFF?
  18. It is not accessible from below at all.....maybe if a tiny midget (sorry little person) and could climb up in there you might have a chance. I tried to pull the hoses off the fittings, but they were on their hard, I couldn't move them at all. I was concerned about breaking or torqueing the fitting so we gave up and went in from the top. Removal of the glareshield, Moritz cluster and CDI took about 15 minutes. Well worth the time to do it that way. The hoses still were inflexibly stuck onto fitting so just cut them off, they are only 4-5 years old and it is easy enough to replace when accessing from the top, I am saying easy now as we haven't replaced them yet. And in addition to hose removal their was an instrument bezel light hardwired into some harness going into bowels of plane. For those who voiced concern about my mechanic, that isn't the issue. I just wanted a good starting point to approach the problem, I certainly understand there is a huge variety of airplanes represented here and if I could have saved some time by going from the top first I would have done that, I didn't, I think the responses above were leaning toward the bottom, that is incorrect. I am telling you no way could you have gotten this out from the bottom or side. Will advise on reinstall if anybody wants to know.
  19. The avionics shop on field I am not impressed with. Top or bottom is reason I am asking and trying to minimize what is dissambled.
  20. I work with a pretty sharp qualified mechanic, just not a lot of Mooney experience. I need to overhaul the standby AI and before I pay for him to learn, I would like to see if anybody knows the best way for this standby AI TO BE Removed. Is it accessible from underneath? Or some other way? Thanks for advice.
  21. How do you handle downwind turns with that kind of attitude?
  22. Thanks for bringing this egregerious oversight to my attention, canceling my order.
  23. Any realistic timeline on this STC coming for Mooneys? Notwithstanding the variations at least a start would be nice. I am in OP boat as well, I could replace a bunch of old 17+ y.o. parts in one fell swoop. But time marches on and things break so I might need to piecemeal repairs and upgrades, ADSB being first unless my KI256 kicks it soon.....
  24. The other thing to note is make sure they fill it up, if their tanks are low you won't get a full charge. Learned that the hard way, also told FBO wouldn't be getting any more of my business. Only got 1/3 of what I thought I should get.
