  1. Congrats skates! Looks like a beautiful plane! You're going to have a blast with it! As for your question of anyone being based at KAJO, I am. Those pictures are taken right in front of my hangar... #4. I'm currently in Austin right now but I'll be home Friday. I'd be happy to meet up with you. If you need anything let me know... I can give you access to my hangar for tools, air or whatever. I fly a 66E with the same paint scheme. Is the instructor you're working with based at corona? Mike
  2. Mooney owner for 3 years and IR for 10 months. You really do become a better pilot with the rating and much safer all around. You get so much more utility out of the Mooney with it, u don't worry about weather as much. Obviously don't want to be a reckless... stay away from ice and TS. I was one of those guys that thought in my heart I would never finish it but so glad I pushed myself to. Very rewarding! Mike
  3. No problem Matt! The offer stands. Enjoy yourself tomorrow! I'll be picking mine up from annual in the morning so if you decide you want to see it let me know. Mike
  4. Hi Matt! The short body is a fun airplane and you can easily fly the family around in one. It's all what you like best. I'm based in corona and have an E model that I'd be happy to take you up in. It's going in for annual today but should be out in a couple days. Feel free to shoot me a message. Mike
  5. Agree 100%... I've used McFarland and the quality is a bit better.
  6. The McFarland ones are over priced in my opinion. You can order one from ACS, they are based out of Lake Havasu City AZ. You have to order it through Aircraft Spruce. They did mine last year. You send them your original one and they build it to that spec and your mechanic can sign it off as owner produced part. It's half the cost and works fine.... maybe even less then half, can't remember. Mike
  7. Airplanes have pink slips? I've had mine for 3 years. That's very cool that you and your dad have owned the plane. Mike
  8. They're building a new taxiway into the runway out of concrete and for some reason it is taking a long time. I do that kind of work for a living and what they are doing doesn't usually take that long. It seems like they have had it shortened for 8 months or more. Obviously having some kind of issue with the job.
  9. Welcome Simon, I own a 66E and bounce around between KAJO, KVNY,KWHP and KWJF. If you guys get together let me know. I'd be happy to show you around the E along with the other guys. It performs very close to the J. Happy airplane hunting Mike
  10. I've never used these and I see them a lot in planes... What's the purpose of them besides soft and comfortable... Do they prevent back sweat and swamp ass... hemorrhoids? Haha Mike
  11. At least the plane would float!
  12. I have the iPad Mini Universal Kneeboard Folio C. I love it. My mini never comes out of the folio even at home. The clipboard is magnetic so you can pull it off easily. And the Velcro strap comes off and stays in the flight bag at home. The clip board has some great quick reference material printed on it great for IFR flying. I also bought one of their flight bags, the small one. Great products, a bit pricey but I've been happy with them. There are YouTube videos on it, that's how I made my decision. Mike
  13. What shop did the job for you? How much did they charge? Mike
  14. This is what charts are for. ATC is assuming you have briefed the approach and understand the whole thing. I've received a VTF just like this on a gps approach. If ATC has given you an intersection to begin the approach at that doesn't exist in the list in the 430w, then they have given you an intersection that is inside one that is in the list. So select the one that is outside the direct to instruction. Load it. Then go into the flt plan page and highlight the interesction they gave you and then direct to. Hope this helps. Mike
  15. Haha! I've owned two 911's... and that was before PPL and not even a thought about what kind of plane I would own... checks out! Mike
  16. He did get his engine back and they did a great job. I didn't poke anymore on what the hold up was. But their work is great and he is happy.
  17. Congrats man! Welcome!
  18. Haha I should say newer then me... I spent most of my time growing up with my dad and grandfather. Mike
  19. I just turned 30... I've always been told I was wise for my age. Maybe that's why most my friends have 10 plus years one me. The new generation leaves me shaking my head mike
