  1. I am using my legs if needed to get past something door/window. Tapping on Plexiglas with a tiny hammer does not seem like a plan.
  2. http://www.lycoming.com/Portals/0/techpublications/serviceinstructions/SI%201427C%20%2812-29-2010%29/Lycoming%20Reciprocating%20engine%20Break-In%20and%20Oil%20Consumption.pdf it does not past well so you need to read it. I created a little spreadsheet checklist to carry with me
  3. I say close the cowl flap. You are trying to eliminate oxygen to a fire. The airspeed is to push the flame away from the source so you then just have the source with no flame. I kind of skeered myself the other day by thinking I would play strafing run at something. The plane will speed up very very fast when pushed forward. My transition pilot (former F=18 pliot) was saying that a wing over in a Mooney is not that great of an idea because of how fast the plane speeds up. I would think flaps out, gear out and a spiral would have you on the ground in no time. also in a spiral the flames would be pushed out to the side instead of into the cabin.(I think)
  4. open the picture in Paint. Click on Resize. put 25 in the horizontal or vertical box and save it
  5. This is one of the airworthy tubes that came on my plane. I could probably figure out the date codes on the tires, but just happy to have new shoes on the plane. Still was holding air.... not sure how..
  6. Trick question. The plane is already out of annual so the ADs don't matter at that point.
  7. According to my father who used to run a fleet of 200 mixer trucks... A Schrader valve (car, truck and airplane) type valve was not designed to hold air and the cap is supposed to do that function. Not sure, but I would not have a valve sticking beyond the tire width. There are some shiny places on my oily wheel well. You could use a Greely Hole punch to put a hole in a wheel cover. I need to do that and put my covers back on......
  8. let's try best for Take off
  9. Cutting off nose to spite face.... How does all the money get there to be spent? Best I heard of this was complaints by the locals about an Army base. One day the base commander ordered the payroll to be paid in $2.00 bills. Locals stopped complaining
  10. Basics Mooney 20F Type data sheet says 2700 RPM http://www.67m20e.com/Mooney TCDS 2A3 Rev 52 dtd 9DEC10.pdf 74" Prop says 2800 is still keeping the tips below supersonic and 2800 is actually getting the prop up to the maximum performance levels http://www.warpdriveprops.com/propspd2.html Lycoming says for an HIO360 - Max rpm is 2900 http://www.lycoming.com/Portals/0/techpublications/servicebulletins/SB 369C (04-18-2012)/Engine Inspection after Overspeed.pdf So what is the best RPM?
  11. Sounds about par for real estate escrow companies. Their one goal in the deal and for which you have the pleasure of paying them is to get all the paperwork together. Usually they forget something
  12. The Parts Manual can give hints It was either Red, Yellow, Dublin Green, 69 Blue. Once you know that you can get possible options on the interior. Do you have any of the original or exterior colors?
  13. I have done one non airplane wheel in powder coat. Really not that hard. Buy an old oven off ebay wire up the 220V plug. Harbor Freight has a rig and the powder. Cook at 350 degrees till done.
  14. http://www.grainger.com/category/grease-fitting-kits/fittings/lubrication/ecatalog/N-9in I have a grease fitting kit... I believe Stewart and Warner but it would be a couple of weeks to get to it. Also try Mcmaster carr. Where did the fitting go that broke?
  15. Speed handle and the fancy Lowes screwdriver for closing the patient up. There is something good about keeping the skills up with hand tools. I also used a cheap $9 harbor freight battery driver to cinch some of the them up, but you got to take another lap and do the final check with a #2 Snap on
  16. The kind of funny thing about an annual is that once everything is inspected to be airworthy the high school apprentice has to put the plane back together.... Seems like a flawed process. I think I got at least some "trust" points from the IA for having hose fitting mandrels and being able to rebuild the brake line.
  17. I had the stainless replacement bag of screws kit. So many are now new shiny stainless. I only had to do the dremel tool cut a slot trick for 3 of the screws.... Although I could see some other panels headed in that direction.... Maybe I should adopt the retrofit a panel a week approach.
  18. is done as owner assist. I will say I have a lot of respect for A&P as I went to bed every night tired and sore. It took the better part of 4 days. The largest time thing was getting the rock shield back on the landing gear after replacing one of the 1975 brake lines. The most major thing we did was replace the front seal in the engine. My prop nut wiring tying skills improved since I got to do it over till it was correct. The question I would think of as hours of turning screws was. How much faster is a more rounded stainless access cover screw than the rusting originals and how much weight could be saved by going from the floating clip nuts to say just a springy U tinnerman clip
  19. I kind of didn't like balancing 1200 lbs on a cone so these seem a bit more safe. And the tie downs should not cut the tie down ropes.
  20. Coax and connectors? Did they SWR meter it?
  21. Are the antennas through bolted? The bolts will create the contact with the skin which is the ground plane. Paint is probably more your issue. Stripping paint off plastic is going to be a challenge
  22. Rubbing is racing... oh wait this is not a bike thread
  23. When people ask why there are not more women in aviation, I say for the same reason there are not more men. Most men now days don't want to get down on their knees to check the gas in the gascolator or get their hands dirty with checking the oil. The best line I heard was... When you get old enough to afford flying, you are too old to pass your medical. There is pretty much nothing 2 minute microwave bake about staying current as a pilot and keeping your plane current. People as how is the plane. My response is "Working fine until the next thing breaks"
  24. It's grade A rust on the spades that are not used.
  25. Maintenance Manual, Parts Manual, Propeller Manual, Engine Manual, Still learning the safety wire thing. I got an "it will work, but we don't want other shops to think we did that" I think I want to try for my Airframe certificate one day. '
