Ill be at Cowboys soon, David..looking for Picahna cut next time I have a few clients now sprinkled liberally around the area Boerne, Austin, Kville, Fredricksberg and Dripping Springs, along with some in the Hou and Dal Area. Ill make a day or 4 of it sometime. And Lance, no worries, I didnt want to pull out my winter sandals yet anyway Bringing you up to speed on the G1000 should be easy, along with the wonderful capabilities of the GFC700. The diff between the Bravo and Acclaim areo wise is there, but not TOO staggering that it will surprise kill you. Get with Kevin Kammer if needed on getting garminized. I dont know if they still have the Redbird at the delivery hangar or not, but it is a good way to play and be bought up to speed. If they do, spin the sim! Sink rate is probably the biggest difference along with float between M and TN. Mike

Congrats! Next time im that way! Even nicer is the AP in the TBM910 Garmin 3000 setup now belonging to a former Ultra owner I had the pleasure of flying with yesterday. With all the talk of the GFC500 YD, one can only dream to be lucky as I was yesterday and fly behind this truly pro setup. Anytime you can claim left seat of any Mooney (or any plane for that matter) you truly do have something to be thankful for on thanksgiving.

"failed Path" alert on G1000 on ovation 3

As a system check, go to the aux chapter system page and review all the Green checks to make sure they are all OK and no red X on the componentry prior to taxi as a after startup check. This eliminates the taking off with a dysfunctional system. If your system check of trim in both directions doesnt provide a positive feedback to your hand on the trim wheel, most likely you dont have the ap switch on and you will be in for a treat if you launch this way, right Mathias? I have resolved some errors by carefully reracking the GIA's a couple of times when the plane had developed what I believed to be a bit of pin corrosion on the rack pins. This is a sensitive op however as those itty bitty pins are easily messed up. -
One of the new Ultras was sold to a gent who didnt have a pilot's license yet, and I have given instruction to a 17 year old who hasnt solo'd yet in his 2009 Acclaim. Frankly, he was better than many at staying ahead of the plane, stick and rudder skills. He will breeze thru the PPL for sure.

bet this and the gfc700 cost Mooney more.

Fuel Stains- When is it time to address?
mike_elliott replied to SARNorm's topic in General Mooney Talk
While corrosion is a silent killer for lack of use, there has been history of spalling tappets under high loading albeit from sitting and not having a lubrication film on them (S=P/A for you guys that think math is still ok to speak of publicly) hence DHC and roller lifter solutions now offered. Having things like a shared camlobe, no direct lubrication, improper valve stem clearance caused by coking of oil on valves all seem to mess with the above formula and increase the S pass the lowest bidder of the day's cam and tappet's ability. IOW, while not to rule out corrosion as a cause, it is by far not the cause in every case but more the corporate answer. -
Hi Dennis, sorry to see you sell her. She looks a lot different than when I first saw her and. sure still as well loved and cared for

09/30 N5779R Engine Failure at 12,500'

Glad you are here to tell this, and not injured. Did you open your door and push the lock lever forward to keep it open prior to setting down in the pasture? Did you say to yourself right before running the emergency checklist (Good call on having it memorized) "this belongs to the insurance company" Its remarkable how that keeps you from wasting time trying to protect the garmin stuff vs spending that time protecting the stuff in the Jockey shorts. Again, congrats on a safe outcome. There are a lot of nice Mooney planes that can replace it. -

GA has a way of throwing in an exception that ends up screwing up your entire flow, muscle memory, checklist place and habits. This sinister antic of god Murphy has killed a bunch of us and we really need to train not to let him play once we pull the plane out of the hangar, and this is a difficult thing to train for as it isnt easily identifiable all the time like you experienced David. One of the things I do is write down ea. occurance when I debrief a flight I take and keep this in a diary. Periodically I will read this book of horrors and once again refresh the lesson. Just a thought from an old guy who is getting real tired of writing checks and letters for the Bill Gilliland foundation. Another went out today for Mrs. Hicks. Thanks for sharing the lesson, David.

If anyone has contact information for Mr. Hicks potential surviving spouse, please PM me. -
one of Norm's aftermarket kits. First time I have seen one mounted on the right however. I had one on my F when I owned it, and would have removed it when it was repainted as the AP made this moot, but that would have been major skin surgery and rebalance, so most likely, Mikey took the same ole cheap way out i did and left the tab there while gutting the electronics.

Unfortunately, what I do know, I cannot say but it isnt much really. Suffice it to say it is a complete replacement of the gear and as far as I can surmise, with the higher GW, something will have to be done with the flaps to keep the stall speed below 61kts.
-
Erik I am sure it would be more than 20K to purchase the final product from an MSC. I just threw that # out there knowing it would probably take 3 million to get the GW increase across the goal line. That isnt making the part, that is the cost of regulatory and testing. What does it cost to replace the current flaps, and all 3 gear legs right now if you had to? 5K wont even begin to get it done unless Alan Fox is in one of his best moods or Jerry Pressley says F* it, just take this stuff. I am sure the final price would be something more than 20K for sure, and feel it would be worth it to a number of FIKI Bravo owners, TN owners etc. The question I posed is to poll how many here would have an interest? And yes, Chris, no worries, no one minds if you dont feel it is worth it. David Vingiano could probably answer the how much is needed much better than my guess. My purpose is to find out if anyone thinks the GW increase is worth putting some skin in the game. But I, like you Chris, dont have a Mooney that it would affect, so my opinion, like yours, lacks standing and therefore is just wind.
-
I guess you would not want the GWI. Fair enough. For it to be a worthwhile investment, you must first have a plane it would apply to, I suppose.
-
How many people would be in for Mooney pulling a Genesys and giving say, 20K deposit for a 500# GW increase? Maybe we can get 150 people to pony up and get this passed the goal line. Final price to be determined, but perhaps early adaptors get a discount for their faith. If we can bring the 3M it will probably take to the table, it might get done.

While it is good to have an emergency exit, its practicality will depend on a number of things going absolutely right in an emergency. Something everyone should do so they understand what it takes is to practice egress on the ground using the baggage hatch. If your over 20, it wont be that fun. If you have just landed in a beanfield and upside down with broken ribs, next to impossible. It will be a human effort if you are injured at all to get out thru the cabin door, so MAKE SURE it is open before you land anywhere but an airport so it is not jammed shut. This one simple thing probably saved my life in 2014. I was unconscious, but someone knew right away were to to pull my busted up carcass out of a plane on fire. I am sure everyone who has been injured can concur here @mooneygirl @DanM20C

We are still trying to ascertain if William Roberts Jr. has a spouse. Does anyone in the Ham radio community (He was big there) or flying musicians association know if he did and if so, what her name might perhaps be? If so, please PM me. Thanks -
Tampa will prove to be an excellent venue also Gus. LOTS more things to do for the non flying + one in addition to having the room to actually accommodate all the people who want to come to the Summit. We simply were space constrained at the facilities with a couple of options that lacked fiscal substance in PCB. After the new Embassay Suites is built and above ground, PCB might lure us back with a stronger incentive than TPA is providing now. In the meantime plan to fire that ol C up and point her another hour south, look for the time window of Oct 12-16, 2022. We will enjoy seeing you again!
