I love the Pre-Madonna! That's before her first album! :-) I think the expression is "Prima Donna" meaning "First Lady" or the leading lady opera singer - now meaning a temperamental, egotistical, and demanding person who expects special treatment and attention.

N9201A started following Mooney Caravan and why you should consider learning more!! and Mooney spins and stalls

What skip said. You aren’t sure if the audio quality is due to the audio panel itself. How’s the intercom? That KMA24 is basically bomb proof, failures are not common. Could also be as simple as a corroded ground somewhere.
-
Are you sure the audio quality issue is due to the audio panel? Is the problem on one radio or all audio inputs. Is the audio quality poor on both the headset and the cabin speaker? If you pull the circuit breakers for the KMA 24 (I believe there are two) it should connect the headset directly to com 1 eliminating the audio panel circuitry. Also some installations have emergency phone and mic jacks on the pedestal and the headset jack connects directly to com 1 bypassing the audio panel entirely.

Well that was quick AOPA leadership...something amiss?

How many -D owners do we have?
BlueMooneyOverKentucky replied to Raptor05121's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
We've got two M20D's at 27K - Georgetown, KY. N6659U 1963, S/N 154 (mine) N6910U 1964, S/N 242 (just arrived) Both are retracts. I'm curious about the serial numbers. I always assumed mine was one of the last, with S/N 154 out of 161 produced. (I never considered the year range in that assumption). So now I'm wondering how there was a S/N of 242? Do all Mooney's share the same S/N sequence across all the models? -
As is usually the case in such matters, it appears there is more to this story than we've been led to believe. Darren's wife made a social media post that pretty clearly indicated this wasn't a mutually agreed parting of ways. It was a board directive. Darren had bought a house in Maryland where he presumably stayed while working at AOPA headquarters, and travelled back to Bend OR two weekends a month. That puts a hole in the resident story released by the board. There is something else afoot and we will probably never know what it is. Russ Niles reports there is a movement building among the AOPA membership to vote in a new board member that more directly represents the light GA folks. All of the current board members are monied jet owners. Darren is closer to being "one of us" and made a visible effort to get out and talk to the membership so he could better represent our concerns. Perhaps there is where the real rub is. But I'm guessing.

Whatever you do- do not install any Amerking or Emerging Lifesaving Technologies products. Amerking has been busted several times on compliance issues. Emerging Lifesavings tech was supposed to be the next greatest thing but it’s dwindling fast and batteries have indefinite back orders. -Matt

Thank you. Can you tell me what is the criteria to know when to use which spacer, or no spacer at all? From where are the measurements taken?

As @LANCECASPER suggested above, don't spend any money or time until you have verified with a qualified mechanic that there is no terminal corrosion. Once it gets started, there is usually no financially realistic way to correct it. If you get past that step, do what the Mooney experts do: remove the tail. Here is how Don Maxwell moved the M20T Predator prototype when they were bidding on a government contract to build military flight training airplanes:
-
Before you put any money into it, including taking it apart and moving it, inspect it carefully for corrosion on the spar. In the long run it’s always less money to buy a flying airplane than to restore one.
-
I can recommend a shop that can remove the entire carb heat system during an oil change and sign the plane off as airworthy...
-
Separating the wing from the fuselage is a huge chore! The typical approach is to separate the aft fuselage by drilling out the rivet line behind the baggage door, leaving the fuselage standing in its gear. Good luck with your project, and keep us posted! Someone here can recommend shops that are experienced with dismantling and transporting Mooneys.
-
Hello all: Just Rescued this Mooney that has been sitting outside for over 10 years. When the snow melts, I will take it apart and mover it for restoration. Step 1 is the separate the fuselage from wing and get it on a truck. Any tips would be welcomed

I’ve been looking for a while. One popped up here some time ago but I was too slow. LASAR waiting list is about 30 deep and they said they have 10 on order. Ugh. Maybe someone will reach out to you with one they have on the shelf.

Just some poor audio quality, sometimes catch 80% of an incoming transmission and would like to get clearer audio. I am alternatively looking to just upgrade the JPI EDM700 to a 730 which is well within budget!
-
I would love to do this, not only to drive down cost, but to learn more about the plane. Unfortunately, when I broached this subject with the shop about an owner-assisted annual they said they don't do that for liability purposes.
-
I believe that is exactly what it is. In my defense, it came that way when I purchased the plane! Maybe when I'm ready for a larger panel upgrade we can get that moved to the tail and free up some space.
-
Great advice, thank you. I tend to have no problem paying more for better quality and have seen that sometimes things are cheap...because they're cheap (poor quality, install, QC etc...). I'm a big buy once cry once when the budget allows. If it doesn't fit within the budget, I guess I have to wait until the budget increases! And by budget I mean my wife's approval to spend more...
-
Thanks for the info. I had budgeted about $5K for install and hardware, and that was based on a quote from ~ 3 years ago where labor was $2,600 alone. Now the labor is coming in just under $5K. Both prices were from the same shop. I did look at the PMA7000 which would be a great jump from my existing unit, but then the question becomes do I stick with mono to save on install cost? If stereo is the way to go then maybe I just wait until the budget meets the job price and buy once cry once. One of the thoughts I have been having is that are multiple bluetooth connections to the panel really necessary/useful anymore? I think this as the new Lightspeed headset can connect to 2 bluetooth devices. I didn't mention this, but my current unit is working fine, although the clarity of audio is not ideal. I find myself concentrating very hard on some communications to make sure I make out what they are saying. I have an ANR headset so I was thinking a new unit will increase the clarity.

Does Anyone Know What Is Going On At Mooney Int'l Corp?
MB65E replied to 1980Mooney's topic in General Mooney Talk
If Mooney declares where their debts are owed, there will be buyers out there that could acquire company. I think LASAR was the most recent culprit in the “debt” Mooney as acquired. LASAR, Souring America, Meijing, Mooney international, and others all seem like partners to spread the debt with . It’s super complex, a lot of irons are in the pot, and the fire is almost out. Until then, eBay works for me. -Matt -
Hi Cliff! As a Tech I’ve been stumped by the elevator trim system rigging. It’s vague in the manual. Additional rigging explanation could be helpful for other techs. Setting neutral or adjusting the bungees Inspect the trim tube at rear avionics racks Each time the aft door is open. I’ve had 2-3 customers this year that have needed new trim tubes. This is partially due to the way the new GFC500 autopilots are installed. The new sprocket and motors attach in a way that load the trim tube down and push it into the bulkhead damaging the tube. Fleet wide this will only get worse due to age and more Autopilot installs. Be careful installing interior side walls they are thin. Avionics ships like to use PK screws through doors and sidewalls. Take a look at your storm window. Lots of seals missing. I’ve seen the lips crack and depart etc. good source for carb air boxes? Many are worn out and complete garbage on the C models. Many Fuel injected owners have no clue on the additional fuel filters in the system. Inline after the fuel pump and then the finger screen at the servo. Also on the fuel servo, I’ve found 2 of them this year that still haven’t had the “g” stamped on the center plug. Come on that AD was 18y ago, really? Gear Motor/Actuator explanations and service. Don’t start the airplane or shutdown with the Door open. Changing a main door hing on a J model currently. I don’t know why gear rigging is so hard for people. Use the tools, RTFM, and use common sense. This airplane in the picture was flying for 5y like this. Yoke shaft inspections and cracked yokes on the vintage birds. I’ve found cracked yokes, but never a cracked shaft. Shoulder harness need to be installed on more airplanes. Owners want new Autopilots, avionics, and leather but haven’t pulled the trigger on life saving devices. Hope this helps. Have a great clinic! -Matt

It’s because you have a KMA-24. Not a KMA-24H. The H model has an intercom built in. Since yours is separate, there is a lot more wiring involved. Is there something wrong with it that it needs to be replaced? Your money will be much better spent elsewhere.
