carusoam Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Continental, has announced an extension to the published TBO for engines manufactured recently. 200 hrs for ordinary modern engines and 400 hrs for high use (40 hrs per month) modern engines. This effects mostly Eagles, Ovations and Acclaims. Read more here http://www.continentalmotors.aero/xPublications/xService%20Bulletins/PDFS/SIL98-9B/ Best regards, -a- And possibly Seth's Missle! aaronk25 Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 In our flying club of 85 members we have yet to have any of our birds lycomings and continentals not make 2400 hours. Up tell the past couple years we had a on staff IA mechanic do all of our overhauls and everytime a 2400 hour engine was taken apart I said to myself, we just took apart a perfectly good engine. Not a mechanic but with cutting oil filters and oil analysis I think we are all short changing our engines by alot. Ill be running my J to 3500hrs before overhaul, given everything stays good. Continental isn't telling us anything new, unless there going to WARRANTY it to 2400hours. P.S a bad cylinder dosent constitute time to overhaul. Quote

Continental Motors warranties their rebuilt engines to 18 months or TBO whichever comes first, and that's pro-rated. I'll let you guess which happens first. This is just a paperwork exercise to justify higher prices from factory engines. Quote
bd32322 Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Just realized most of our engines are a 1000 $ a pound of metal or more! I know its not something you price by weight but still Quote
danb35 Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 bd32322, you're off by an order of magnitude or more. Quote
