dcrogers11 Posted March 19, 2013 Report Posted March 19, 2013 I've got an extra pair of vintage Mooney yokes that I was planning to upgrade and re-cover to swap out with my present set. The plan was to incorporate new PTT and A/P buttons along with fitting an aftermarket clock in the center. Since the old yokes are typical "skinny" yokes, I was planning to build up the the yokes somehow before leather covering to accept the clock and buttons to give a more modern appearance while not altering the yoke's base structure itself. Is this a "legal" alteration? Thanks, Don Quote
scottfromiowa Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 Ask the FAA and let me know.... Quote

scottfromiowa Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 The issue I can see is being able to properly inspect the yoke for cracks if covered up with anything. Yup and there is an AD to do just that on my OEM 66E Quote
Hank Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 So how do people inspect yokes after Hector at Aero Comfort covers them in leather? Mine are just powder coated. Quote
N601RX Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 The AD is for cracks in the yoke shaft, not yoke itself. 1 Quote
Marauder Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 The AD is for cracks in the yoke shaft, not yoke itself. That was my understanding as well. And if I am not mistaken (will need to go back and look at the AD) if you upgraded to the newer style shafts, it ended the AD. Quote
Marauder Posted March 25, 2013 Report Posted March 25, 2013 Here are the details: http://www.mooney.com/images/pdfs/sb-pdf/sbm20-205b.pdf I had the entire shafts and yokes replaced to the newer style (J style) with the parts listed in the SB. Eliminates the need for further inspections. Quote
