Oscar Avalle Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 Here we go again... I flew on Friday from Guatemala City to Flores Peten (near Tikal where the amazing Mayan ruins are). About a 1.5 hour flight at 11 k. During this flight I lost my Go Pro... and if you look carefully after I landed you can see some wildlife on the runway... I hope you enjoy the clip. 1
Skywarrior Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 You lost your GoPro. How did you post this video?
Oscar Avalle Posted January 13, 2013 Author Report Posted January 13, 2013 You lost your GoPro. How did you post this video? I had installed two cameras one under the wing and one under the fuselage... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
29-0363 Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 How was the one you lost mounted? How was the one you didn't lose mounted?
Oscar Avalle Posted January 13, 2013 Author Report Posted January 13, 2013 One was mounted under the belly and the other close to the wing tip on the upper side of the wing. The latter was simply blown away after we flew through a rain shower. I guess the suction cup was not tight and it got lose... The one under the belly, also attached with a suction cup was fine. kmyfm20s Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 With all the great videos you you have made, you might need to organize " La Tour De Mooney Mexicana " for all of us Mooney pilots:)
Oscar Avalle Posted January 13, 2013 Author Report Posted January 13, 2013 Well, would be fun...I will be here for two or three more years...
flyboy0681 Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 Until I saw this video I never really realized just how much the step stands out like a sore thumb. Too bad Roy didn't see a need to retract it.

201er Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 Hey Oscar, I have a question for you (don't laugh). How much speed do you lose from doing this? Is it measurable at all? Also what speed are you cruising? Should I worry more about this sort of setup at 155kts?
Oscar Avalle Posted January 14, 2013 Author Report Posted January 14, 2013 Hey, I don't laugh at all... all to the contrary. But to be frank I have not seen any degradation. I am cruising at 145 kts.
Swissmooney Posted January 15, 2013 Report Posted January 15, 2013 Hi Oscar Great video and appreciate it very mich Just a question: do you control the go pros with the remote control for on and off?? Happy landings Heinz
Oscar Avalle Posted January 15, 2013 Author Report Posted January 15, 2013 Dear Heinz, no I just let them run and then I edit the videos.
Swissmooney Posted January 15, 2013 Report Posted January 15, 2013 dear Oscar Thanks for this info...I bought the backpack for the gopro but am unable to make it work from cockpit to the lower part of fuselage! Just one more question: with what prg are you editing the movies and how do you upload it?? I habe used the gopro editing however it took hrs and hrs to manage it?!? Kind regards from sunny Florida (vacation till end of jan) Heinz
Oscar Avalle Posted January 16, 2013 Author Report Posted January 16, 2013 Dear Heinz, enjoy sunny Florida. I will be there in February to teach a course in tampa. Regarding your questions: I do not use the remote control to stop and start the camera. I prefer not to be distracted and I just turn on the camera before I start the plane and then after I land I turn it off. The Battery lasts for about 2 to 3 hours so no problem what so ever. For ediing purposes I use final cut pro (a Mac program) it works well, but a bid of an overkill. I was told that you could also use i-movie, which is simpler and cheaper... I have not used the go pro editing software.
Swissmooney Posted January 16, 2013 Report Posted January 16, 2013 dear Oscar Thanks for info and wish you a successfull stay in Tampa Kind regards Heinz
