Well I guess Garmin finally release new software update for the GTN 650/750 and GMA 35 with many new improvements and features. Does anyone have any details about the updated feature set and how you get it installed in the units.

I was on Beechtalk and learn a little bit.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I got the email yesterday. Didn't have any details in it but my plane is in the avionics shop and I have sent them an email to ask what it will address. Do you know if these can be applied by the owner or is it a trip to the avionics shop?

Marauder let me know what you find out and how things work. I sent an email to my avionics shop today asking questions but no response yet. Do you know if this SW include the voice command feature.

It is my understanding that there are 7 pages of fixes and improvements, one thing I did learn is that the flight charts are now geo-referenced which would e nice. it also includes 3D audio and many others.

please let me know how things go.

Which shop is doing your update.

thanks

here is a list from beechtalk

Hello everyone,

I apologize if the notification didn't come across very clearly, I'll definatley check into it when we return to work on the 26th. as for the items that are being addressed in the 3.0 software, there are a number of minor issues that we're addressing that won't ever be seen by the installers of owners such as yourself however the main issues are:

Major features

• Weather radar:

o Garmin GWX 68

o Garmin GWX 70 (will not be approved under the STC yet due to the GWX 70 schedule)

• GSR 56:

o Position reporting

o Weather

o Phone

o SMS texting

• GDL 88:

o ADS-B Traffic

o Weather

• TCAD:

o TCAD 9900B (RS-232)

o TCAD 9900BX (RS-232)

• GNS Crossfill (note that this is covered by the GNS STC, not the GTN STC):

o Automatic crossfill of active flight plan from GTN to GNS

o Manual crossfill of user waypoints in both directions between GTN and GNS

Smaller features

• Pilot-configurable top data fields on GTN 7XX, right side data fields on GTN 6XX

• Ability to graphically edit direct-to legs

• Geo-referenced FliteCharts

• Ownship on the charts page

• Ability to sort airway exit points geographically

• Ability to turn GMA 35 ASR on and off

• Ability to turn GMA 35 3D audio on and off

• Smart Airspace

• Ability to turn European airway airspaces on and off

With version 3.00, the GTN will support the following new enablement cards:

• Digital radar enablement – Required to configure an ARINC 708 port to interface with a third-party weather radar. (this has been delayed as there was a minor problem and will be addressed in the first quarter of 2013)

• Ground clutter suppression enablement – Required to configure the GWX 70 to use its ground clutter suppression feature. As noted above, though, the STC will not approve the GWX 70 until later.

• Turbulence detection enablement – Required to configure the GWX 70 to use its turbulence detection feature. As noted above, though, the STC will not approve the GWX 70 until later.

The GSR 56 does not require any enablement cards.

It does require having your local Garmin dealer install this.

Let me know if there is any questions,

Thanks! Did they unscramble their signal?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

My guess- and this is pure speculation, is that the "scrambled" signal from the 430/530 update helps or enables crossfill with the 650/750 somehow. Less nefarious than the "garmin sour grapes over aspen theory," I know, but that's my guess.

Hi All,

I had the new Garmin updates applied this morning. In summary here are the revisions:

GTN Main Software Version 3.00

COM Software Version 2.10

NAV Software Version 6.02

NAV FPGA Software Version 1.1

WAAS Software Version 5.0

There was a 34 page STC document that came with the update. This updates the 31 page STC document you received with your GTN. I have provided the summary pages of the STC from the document. The summary pages talks about the changes in the original STC, but in order to see specifically what changed, you need to compare it to the original STC. Some of them are straightforward, others you literally need to compare line by line. Below are some of the major changes:

Table 1: Named specific datalink products. Traffic data line now also mentions ADS-B, GSR 56 Iridium Satellite Phone & SMS Text added. Added the word "optional" to everything we already knew was "optional".

Section 1.2: Capabilities checkbox added and includes VHF COM, VHF NAV, Primary GPS (enroute) and approach capability, Primary GPS Approach Capability with Vertical Guidance, TSO-C151b Terrain Awareness and Warning System. Added B-RNAV under EASA AMC 20-4.

Section 1.3: Looks like a new AC in place eliminating the recommendation for paper or secondary electronics charts.

Section 1.4: Added items to the list.

Section 2.2: Eliminated all placard references to VFR operations. First line only left.

Section 2.3: Eliminated the need for secondary GPS source or VHF NAV capabilities for IFR ops for aircraft under 6000 lbs. Over 6k, same as original STC.

Section 2.14: Adds FIS-B via GDL88 and Connext via GSR56.

Section 2.16: Eliminated limitation of track-up on ground for StormScope.

Section 2.17: Talks about changes with the Flight Planner and requirements for needing additional information before calculator can be used. Nows talks about fuel totalizer input. Hmmm....

Section 2.21: Telephone audio may not be distributed to the pilot or co-pilot unless a phone call is active -- that is verbatim!

Section 3.2.8 and 3.2.9: New really long label!

Section 3.2.10: Unrecoverable loss of all electrical generators or alternators emergency procedure added. Just down GTN #2 if installed.

Section 4.1: New power on feature for the phone (deactivated).

Section 4.3: Added a caution stating pilot must verify course and waypoint information for each leg. Also ensure proper course when CDI source is changed from GPS to VLOC.

Section 4.4: Caution added. Autopilot cannot provide course deviation to the AP for heading legs. Some autopilots do not allow the use of GPSS when course deviation is not provided.

Section 4.6: GSR Iridium datalink is routed through your audio panel must be turned off unless making a phone call.

Section 7.7: Added TCAD and GDL 88 ADS-B to the list.

Section 7.8 Added a "Heading Not Available Mode: section. Clarifies what will happen if heading information is missing.

Sections 7.12 to 7.16: 7.12 talks about a new Smart Airspace feature. Not sure if this cleans up the false indications like flying under a shelf. It says Smart Airspace & Airspace Alerts are separate. Will need to read up on this one. 7.13: Talks about GDL 88 and how it will function. 7.14 talks about the GWX 70 Weather Radar. Talks about doppler radar technology and the benefits. Need a 12 inch antennae. That eliminates my plane :) 7.15: On the 725/750 it says charts and weather cannot be displayed at the same time on the main map page. It says the weather data is displayed below an overlaid procedure chart. Airborne weather radar is overlaid on the main map page, the radar data is displayed above an overlaid procedure chart. You 750 guys will need to show me this one. 7.16: Enable ES button on the transponder page does not indicate the aircraft is in full compliance with an ADS-B Out solution in accordance with TSO-C166b (1090ES).

I did not see any other reference to enhancements. Hope this helps a bit. Please let me know if you need more detail. Flew the plane this afternoon with the new firmware.

No mention of this fixing the serial port bug? I can't feed aviation data #1 to both my jpi and 396 at same time only the highest port number gets the data :(. Could the 396 and jpi be "spliced" into the same data wire??

The bug was supposed to be fixed in 3.0. My feeling is a lot more things are changed/fixed and not mentioned in release notes. My shop changed my configuration when the gdl88 was installed, so I am no longer affected by the bug. Have you tested 3.0 for the serial bug?

You can parallel up to 3 loads on a single rs232 output.
