schule Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 While browsing for a Rocket upgrade I came across N252AN for sale by Island Aircraft Sales in Sarasota, FL. Cal was a sales rep for Mooney Mart and the aircraft/hangar are still the same from when I took photos as I started looking in 2009. Looks like an engine rebuild, repaint, and interior panels on the airplane which came out of the mid-Atlanic coast around spring of 2009. Not to start a Mooney Mart bashing contest, but rather to see if anyone has current information on the status of this new company. Is this a Phoenix trying to comeback or did the staff execute a hostile takeover and kill off Mooney Mart? -Mark Quote
The-sky-captain Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 Hmmmmm.... Since you want no MM bashing I have absolutely nada to contribute. Quote
scottfromiowa Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 Coy gave me a free Mooney airplane pin when I stopped in on vacation several years ago. Only "contact" with Mooney Mart... 1 Quote

They shipped it and we installed it here. So minimal contact, but I did talk to Coy at that time. I ended up ordering directly from Coy on the phone and it was very cordial and helpful regarding details of the install. So.... 18 months ago. Quote
David Mazer Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 If you really want to know, you might contact Sarasota Avionics. They seem to have the inside scoop on Coy since he owes them so much money and they were located right there. Oops, sorry, no Mooney Mart bashing requested but it is just so hard to resist. Quote
fantom Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 Since when are first hand reports, negative though they may be, called "bashing"?? 1 Quote
fantom Posted December 21, 2012 Report Posted December 21, 2012 Island Aircraft Sales seems to have been a high end used car brokerage, formed in 2010, that more recently has gotten into aircraft sales. Quoting their website: "Island Aircraft is associated with the Mooney Mod Squad, a group of local Mooney Maintenance Specialists who make sure any plane Cal sells is 100% up to code and air-worthy" Cavaet Emptor! You had to mention him by name, didn't you?! Now I gotta go take a shower! One experience, never, ever again... 1 Quote

David Mazer Posted December 28, 2012 Report Posted December 28, 2012 Lori, I wish you the best of luck. You've chosen a difficult way to start a business in a difficult economic environment. Coy is a blight on the aviation service industry and his impact on your reputation will be difficult to overcome. I look forward to hearing from your customers on this sight how you have done a great job on the work you have performed and the services you have provided. Will you be at SNF? Quote

Lrn2Fly Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 Mooney Mod Squad is definitely NOT associated with that other guy. As for N252AN, it is a Rocket worth looking at. I have been test flying it over the past several months, identifying squawks, and yesterday the flight went very well. It has a new engine, new mag, new JPI830, new paint, and it barks like a Rocket should. I will miss this plane when Cal sells it - it is simply a fun flying plane with a lot of Moxie!  As for Cal, you couldn't ask for a better guy to buy from. He is a straight shooting southern gentleman. I have watched him in operation for several years, and he has always done things right. Unfortunately others in his recent past have sullied some of the deals he's been involved with. His current associates are top notch, and will not rip you off. DaV8or Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 Didn't Mooney Mods once have the STC for the vintage to OEM 201 cowl conversion?, or was that Mooney Mart? Quote
