AmigOne Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 Just confirmed with Lasar that they still don't carry the Visor Wiser for the reasons explained here in some previous threads. But they have the lenses for $25/pair. I bought a pair with the intention of manufacturing the attaching hardware myself, perhaps not for the full movement (down and sideways) but at least downwards. It looks like an interesting winter project, together with the various RC models I am building. If anybody has done it or has any ideas how to do this they are welcomed. For those who were lucky to get a Visor Wiser close up pictures of the hardware would also be appreciated. Now in winter and when the wind so dictates, the orientation of my homebase runway puts the sun right in my face . So I would like to have a sun visor because sunglasses are not enough. Quote
aerobat95 Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 How much did they charge you for the lens?? Quote
AmigOne Posted September 14, 2012 Author Report Posted September 14, 2012 They charged me $25 for the pair + shipping, UPS ground all the way to the east coast since I have no hurry for them. I was planning to buy a sheet of green acrylic and cut it myself anyways which would have been more expensive and probably would not have had the finished look that these lens will have. As to flying at night not a bad idea but that would deprive me of the beautiful winter sunsets over the Appalachian mountains Quote
M20F-1968 Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 Get a set of Rosen visors and cut the lens similarly to the LASAR, or install the LASAR lens in the Rosen frame if the LASAR lens is undrilled. John Breda Quote
DonMuncy Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 Rosens are terribly expensive. Lenses are relatively cheap and easy to build. The hardware is another story altogether. I have looked a little and have not found anything similar. Quote
M20F-1968 Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 What I meant is purchase the Rosen visors, primarily for the hardware. Of course they will come with the lens. You can either make a new lens from tinted glass and sell the Rosen lenses (the material is not that expensive), or modify the Rosen lenses. The modification for me is to retain access to the switches in the ceiling. The modification would be different for each airplane depending on mounting location and  equipment. DonMuncy Posted September 24, 2014 Report Posted September 24, 2014 Unfortunately, this was a long time ago and someone else installed them for me. I assumed they were mounted in the same spot as the factory shades. Quote

Piloto Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 If upper visibility is of concern then get one of these for $2.99 www.partycity.com/product/casino+visor.do  Girl not included.  José Quote
Bob_Belville Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 I installed a pair of Lasar Visors that had been logged as installed in 2000 by a previous owner's mechanic but were on the hat shelf along with the installation sheet when I got the plane in 2011. (The guy I bought the plane from was 6'4" and apparently did not need them.) I probably fussed with them a couple of hours, mostly getting the friction right on the several rod clamps. Quote
rockydoc Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 Now that I purchased the lenses (I couldn't pass up $25 for the pair from LASAR), I need to figure out the best way to install them in my bird that has never had any (hence no existing hardware at all). Â Ideas anyone? Quote

gsxrpilot Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 I just tried to order, but they are actually not available yet. Â You can place your order, but they are not in stock yet. Â I might hold of until they are in stock to order. Â I've had both my GoPro and iPad on these suction cup mounts up to 13500 and neither let go. Â Anyway, they are easy to snug up if needed. Â Compared to what Rosen wants and no STC or logbook entry required! Â This seems to be just the ticket. 1 Quote
