I have never posted a plane for sale on this forum or any of the other forums.  As a broker, I have always respected that my place is to advertise and pay for my listings and places like MooneySpace are reserved for freebies for members.

But a question for you?  Does anyone have a problem with me pre-announcing incoming inventory to this forum?  In other words, when we get a listing or when we buy a plane, as soon as it is confirmed but before we advertise it, we could announce its pending marketing and thus give the shoppers and wannabe Mooney owners on this list some advance notice that the plane will hit the market soon.

Beyond the notice, I would not advertise the plane for sale here and would respect the non-commercial aspect of the website.

If you know me, you know that I don't have the patience for a lot of drama, so if doing so will cause an issue with anyone, I can just stick with what we have historically done.

Thanks, Jimmy

Jimmy, I for one wouldn't have any problem seeing ads for your inventory here, but I'll defer to Craig (site creator/owner) to make any kind of ruling about appropriateness.  I suspect if you contributed more of your knowledge here on various Mooney issues many folks would welcome the input and be completely comfortable with any posts about planes for sale.  It's not like folks don't know you make a living selling Mooneys!

I think there would be a lot of interest in used avionics deals, and I believe you might be able to sell take-out stuff here when you upgrade any of your inventory.

You may or may not be aware that Craig just had an informal fund raising drive to upgrade the forum software and hosting.  There was talk about recognition for donors and vendors, and I think that is a good idea.  Perhaps that would be a good mechanism for you to kick in some nominal funds for the site in exchange for posting ads or links to ads.  (Beechtalk has some brokers participating on their site and they're well-received from my observation.)

I have no problem with your proposal Jimmy. I think that it shows confidence in your planes if you were to give notice to such an educated group of money owners. I hope others agree. Good luck.

Jimmy, Craig, and all - I just created a Poll so that we can give Craig some input on what the members of the site think about this request.  You don't have to use the poll to assist the decision if you do not want to, but the ifnormation will be there for your use.

I personally think Jimmy through reputation can offer a lot from an expertise standpoint and with some sort of donation to the ongoing workings of the website, can can recgonition as a sponsor and appropriately post adds on aircraft and equipment for sale.  However, that may not be what otheres think.

The poll just made it easy for a quick referance.

Take care,

This is a dulplicate post from the post I made under General Discussion and the poll that Seth created:

Thanks for the poll.  I just want to stress.  I DO NOT want to make this a commercial endeavor.  I am a big boy and pay a lot of money every year to advertise planes. I don't have to do this.

I am also very reserved about my opinions and contributions (thoughts) to this forum or any other user forum.  I do lay out MY opinions in MAPA on occasion, but they are to be taken by the reader as opionions, not as points of debate.  This forum encourages debate and I am all in favor of furthering the knowledge of the fleet and its owners through civil debat.  But I have watched other dealers and brokers get lambasted in the past for their opinions, on this site and others.  Being in the profession and having an opinion rankles the crap out of some people.  I don't have the time or the inclination to defend my opinions or argue the finer points of flying, servicing or selling Mooneys.  And for that reason, I probably will continue to be an occasional spectator and not a contributor (although I have already contributed some money to the site, prior to some suggesting that I do so).

I do not want to advertise here and only thought that maybe a pre-view may be beneficial to some members.  When we have a hot one coming (which we do, two to be precise), I thought maybe some of the non-owner members of this list or those wishing to upgrade might appreciate a pre-view before a plane hits the market.

Thanks again,  Jimmy

Although I do not have a personal buying or selling experience with Jimmy, he has sent me a couple emails with some soon-to-be-listed aircraft when he knew I was looking for a new plane.

They were very relevant to the type of plane I was looking for (I needed a capable, turbocharged, Texas-to-Florida travel machine) - I just ended up with a plane that wasn't in his possession or under contract with him.  While it's clear he was doing the best to further his business, him sending those emails with specs and pics to me was much appreciated.

As someone who is in the market for a Mooney, I have NO problem with you posting here! I've heard nothing but good things about AAA and would be more than happy if I bought my airplane from you through a posting on this site.

I am against it. I just bought a new engine and I shouldnt be tempted to buy another plane so soon :)   Plane porn is tempting...

...... Hey Jimmy, you aren't selling any Bonanzas yet,  are you?   ;)

First of all, no problem at all with advance inventory.

Personally I would have no problem with Jimmy (or any other broker) posting any of the Mooney aircraft he has for sale on an individual basis in the "Trading Post" section - just because he has a business and other members may be posting a private sale, I think the fundamentals are the same.  People go to the trading post to look for things, or even airplanes, to buy and to restrict someone from posting something for sale there because he runs a business makes the Trading Post less useful.  Now, if I were a broker, I'd consider if I wanted to do that, given the level of scrutiny some members apply to those posts and how they can cue off a rant about damage history or something else rational or irrational with the way the internet swings.  The site's policy should be the same for all brokers, we all think Jimmy runs a very respectable business, but whatever the policy should be, we should realize that a less respectable broker might also use the site in the same way.  A regular post from a member should be free.

Also given Craig's other concern about money for the site, I know the selling of ads was mentioned, and we would be remiss if we didn't try to sell AAA some paid advertising space however it is that Craig decides to implement that model (with banners or squares or featured stories or whatever). :)

Look at Beechtalk. Their advertisers actively participate in the forums. They do get criticized for their contributions at times. I don't really see a problem with the advertising or being criticized. We're all big boys and girls and we all have a delete button.

Being a recent buyer, my experience was that it would be a tremendous advantage to know about planes before they're on the general market, both for buyers and sellers. Again, look at BT. When a good plane at a realistic price hits their Peddlers Talk it sells quickly, sometimes within hours.

I'd say let Jimmy list here.

I'm with everyone else.  I think having a reputable broker/dealer involved with this site would be a good thing.  I've used Jimmy's valuations twice for obtaining loans for my plane.  But as Scott said, it's Craig's site, and he has final say in it.

Regardless that I am also a past (happy) customer, I have no problem with Jimmy posting sales or advice or what he had for lunch, just like anyone else.  I understand his reasons to limit his opinion posts, and he is probably right to be cautious as it impacts his livelihood.

As another poster pointed out, the new scope would apply to all sellers.   And once it starts that way, it is hard to stop.  As long as the SELLING AIRCRAFT section is all Mooney's, it is fair game in my mind.  If you don't like all the ad's, then don't read that section.  However, it makes sense to wait until Craig decides how the new site's possible pay feature may work.  If expanding the scope of the "selling aircraft" section now takes away from future financial support of the site, we will have a problem.  (yes, I have donated)

All that, and I basically said the same so many others, "Whay would Craig do?"

Jimmy's reputation for selling clean, straight Mooneys is well known, and a peek at his upcoming inventory, along with his presence on the site would be potentially helpful for owners and non-owners alike. This site is here to share information and the more experienced you are with this fleet of aircraft the more potentially valuable one's input is. I say let him post and share what he can, either aircraft for sale or experience and knowledge. It will be a win-win in the end for all.

I not only do not have a problem with it, I think it would be very helpful to those of us who are looking for a new ride. (Not me, I haven't had my 231 even a year yet). I have bought three from Jimmy, and I have been very happy with every one of them.
