I'm looking for a paint scheme software or paint scheme designer to work on a paint scheme for my Mooney. I have pictures of an airplane that I took at Oshkosh that I really like the paint scheme. I would like to get a rendering of how this might look on my airplane.

I worked with Brian Smith of Wings Aviation in Dallas, will be glad to send you his info via PM.  He has designed paint schemes for several of the MooneySpace members, never heard a negative comment about him.  He is very reasonable and will produce a design and/or detailed drawings for the painter.

Check the pictures on N5810Z in my gallery for an example of his work.

Brian Smith is  first class, AND a former Mooney owner. A paint job is a large investment. Getting it completely laid out by someone other than the paint shop is most reasonable.

Call Brian... you won't be disappointed, and you'll very likely end up with something like much better than what you have rattling around in your brain right now.

Ok, I called and left a voicemail to Brian last week and no reply. That's a huge strike as far as I'm concerned. Any other shops that can be recommended to do a paint scheme rendition?

So guys, what do you think the paint scheme on the AOPA cover Mooney will do to resale value... increase or decrease?

I'm not a fan of the paint job on AOPA's cover. Whoever pays the almost $800K for it, will surely have to love it. I'll wait to hear back from Brian. I'm just used to getting a call back in the world of aviation. That simple call can make or break a deal. I'll be the guy doing the paint on my airplane. So no one to blame but myself if it doesn't turn out very good.

Be patient with Brian... it will be worth it!  He is also much, much less expensive than the more famous scheme design outfit you might have seen on AOPA, and I think his ideas "work" much better on Mooneys.

I can say that I will not be doing the Ovation style swoosh. I want it to stand out, but not in the way the AOPA cover shot does.Smile
