rbridges Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 what a clean easy to read panel. that is beautiful. Quote
lahso Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 Very nice! I hope to upgrade my panel soon. Quote
PilotDerek Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 Very nice panel. I'm saving my pennies for a panel upgrade. Quote
carusoam Posted July 24, 2012 Report Posted July 24, 2012 Much nicer than the original 1965, and more powerful than most '94s too! Quote
ELT Posted July 25, 2012 Report Posted July 25, 2012 Very nice. I just finished a less major up grade. I removed some experienced avionics then installed a 430w and mounted the RAM iPad mount to the right instrument stack. I did not like the iPad in my lap or on the yoke. I see you use a rubber band to disable the PC. Try cane tips. Picture attached hopefully Quote
rob Posted July 25, 2012 Report Posted July 25, 2012 I'm glad that more people are putting Aspen's in the older Mooneys. I put mine in 2 years ago and I love it. Some questions: What is that under the co-pilot yoke? Also, did you have issues with the GPS and the compass? Why did you keep the VSI? Quote
Gilt Posted July 25, 2012 Report Posted July 25, 2012 Very nice...what's the aspen say your TAS is? Quote
zerobearing2 Posted July 25, 2012 Author Report Posted July 25, 2012 @ELT - thanks for the tip on "cane tips" -- I might try that @flyboy0681 - I know, 3 gps's is bit of overkill, with 1x 430w, 1x 430, and 1x 496, I suppose I have no excuses for ever being off course. I received my instrument rating last year and plan to do more IFR flying with this new panel. no excuses for me now! @rob - thats the brittian accu-trak under the copilot yoke -- basically, poor mans autopilot. It works great taking GPS directions from the Aspen. Perhaps someday I might consider a "real" autopilot, but for now it seems to work just fine. Does make me wish I had ALT hold though. GPS's with the compass is a problem for sure. compass is basically useless IMO -- I'd consider removing it if I could legally. I kept the VSI mostly for asticics right now. I really didn't have anyting else to install on the pilot side, and I've done all my instrument work on the standard "6 pack". I figured it'd be nice way to transition to the Aspen while maintining the majority of the "6 pack". Quote
