Boboli Posted December 19, 2025 Report Posted December 19, 2025 I know it seems simple but does anyone know which direction the tie down ring should point? IOW, should it point toward the wingtip or the gear?

bcg Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 I pointed mine towards the wingtip as well. It looks better and made more sense for the tie down going that way.
mpilot Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 I was going to purchase these, then my mechanic told me the Left wing is a larger bolt/thread, so I paused. I verified, it is indeed larger. Is this typical or if I buy these, I'll have only one, lol?

It sounds like maybe yours had a damaged thread and someone drilled it out and threaded for the next size up. 1
mpilot Posted December 28, 2025 Report Posted December 28, 2025 I think so, so perhaps a helicoil in my future if I buy a set. . . I'll be doing gear swings, so this purchase is on my mind.

The usual thing on Moonies when this happens is to put in a helicoil so the same size hardware can be used. Depending on how far yours got tapped out you may be able to just put in a helicoil. 2

It is likely that somone damaged the thread on your plane in the past and "fixed" it by making a larger hole. I found similar damage on my plane. Helicoil and LASAR jackpoints was the permanent solution - no longer need to remove the tiedowns to jack the plane up. Very useful mod and relatively cheap. 1
mpilot Posted December 29, 2025 Report Posted December 29, 2025 I will get helicoil for it. Now, where are you able to find the LASAR tiedowns? shows out of stock.
IvanP Posted December 29, 2025 Report Posted December 29, 2025 Call Heather at LASAR - their website does not always show correct stock. She may have some available. They also have a nice stainless tail tiedown to complete the set (I think they used to sell it as a kit with all three). Be carfeful when drilling the hole(s) for helicoil. If I remember correctly, these are blind holes of certain depth only. 1
