jetlyting Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 I have a M20J SE that I purchased to do my fixed wing add-on (I already have my private helicopter ticket.) There are no Mooney CFI's that I can find around here (please do not recommend Jerry Johnson, he refused to teach me from the get go---he's actually the co-pilot in a small jet with the guy I bought my Mooney from) Seems like every CFI around here is Cessna specific, and will not teach you in your own plane. Any help would be appreciated. WR Quote
moodychief Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Ed Morris in Little Rock is very good. I don' know what he charges but he does travel to his clients location. He owns a 201 and has 38,000+ hours TT. PM me if interested and I will get his contact information sent to you. Quote
carusoam Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 WR, Where are you located? Do you want someone to meet you at your location? Welcome to the Mooney world. Best regards, -a- Quote
jetlyting Posted July 10, 2012 Author Report Posted July 10, 2012 Based out of Bourland Field (50F) southwest of Ft Worth. Plane will be back soon from Don Maxwell in Longview. My Cessna CFI helped me propstrike my nice plane. Now I get a new MENA engine and MT prop (plus paying an arm and a leg for "betterment"). Quote
jetlyting Posted July 10, 2012 Author Report Posted July 10, 2012 someone who could meet at Bourland would be great.... Thank you for the welcome...I really love my mooney Quote
jlunseth Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Jerry Johnson . Look him up at www.mapasafety.com . He is one of the MAPA PPP instructors and a truly great fellow. I think he still lives in Ft. Worth. They are not hard to land, but they are not Cessna's. Quote
smccray Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 PM Sent- I did most of my transition training with one of your neighbors at Bourland. Quote
smccray Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 By the way... where are the photos of your new plane?!?!?!?!? We're being too nice- half a dozen posts being helpful and not a single one demanding photos? Quote
Mcstealth Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 Parker is always up in that neck of the woods leaving his plane at Maxwells, for extended periods of time. Get him to take you up. DF Quote

danb35 Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 I find it very curious that a CFI would outright refuse to teach you, particularly if he's active with MAPASF. What reason(s) did he give? Quote

fantom Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 It would be interesting to hear why Jerry Johnson, who has been a valuable Mooney supporter for decades, turned the OP down from the get go. Got to be more to this story. Quote
jetlyting Posted July 12, 2012 Author Report Posted July 12, 2012 This is actually his co-pilot's (Buddy Brown's) plane, Jerry has flown this particular plane many times. They used this plane to chase the jet when it goes to maintenance at Meacham. Jerry told me he was not taking on students right now, but would give me some pointers later own after my transition. Previous owner begged him to help me, but he refused. Quote

danb35 Posted July 12, 2012 Report Posted July 12, 2012 It might be worth asking Jerry if he could recommend another local CFI... Quote
jetlyting Posted July 14, 2012 Author Report Posted July 14, 2012 I appreciate the help...this forum is great. Thanks again everyone for the help !!!! Quote
jhaswell Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 I know I am new, but I may know an instructor or two that are mooney die hards. I will give them a ring tomorrow and let you know if they could teach you. Quote
schule Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 Might try Bob Cabe. He lives a fair drive north of San Antonio. All American Aircraft (Dave or Jimmy) can put you in touch with him. -Mark Quote

jhaswell Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 I was thinking of Johnson. But I talked to his son and he says he might be able to make the trip up there. He is going to check in on the forum later today and maybe he will pm you. Hi Magic. Quote
