Mooney Ovation Ignition Key Help

I have been trying to get an extra ignition Key and just heard from LASAR that its $3015.00 because Mooney is only selling it as kit with a new ignition. What a joke. Does anyone know how I can get a key made its a medeco key with a number starting with XB.

I got a spare key when I got my Ovation @ 12 yrs ago - $22.11

I can't remember if I got it thru the lock company or Mooney factory

Try calling RA-Lock company 1-800-777-6310., (That's the company on the Key info card I received) and give the XBN number

I asked my A&P (who's a Mooney Service Center). He reached out to Mooney (or Lasar, can't recall) and they got it done. @25 per copy (I had 2 made) + shipping - took a few weeks.

Your local Medeco locksmith dealer makes. Since they don’t have a registration for your key, call to see what they need. You may have a registration # in the start of your logbook.
I paid less than $10 a key but years ago.

Problem solved it was a misunderstanding and LASAR is the best the key is $35.

The key that came with my plane would only work if you jiggled it up and down as you turned it.  It was the wrong key and probably a cabinet key.  A friend on the field had a Mooney and the key works like it was made for the lock.  I made three copies, and keep one on the key ring, one in the headset bag, and one hidden in the aircraft.

I have more keys than I can remember. One ser in the car, the truck, my wife's purse, the plane, a spare set, my IA has one . . . There may be another spare set or two floating around.
