phxcobraz Posted October 22 Report Posted October 22 So I’ve been having random times my 430W will transmit static. I can receive no issues and all nav/gps functions work great. Sometimes tower/ground/approach says it’s unreadable and by the time I get to a different location it’s back to normal. My mechanic and I tested on ground and he could hear it, we swapped in another 430W he had and didn’t hear the issue. Best bet to send it in for a com board replacement or anything else to check? My Com 2 is a KX155 and it has no issues with static, clear to everyone. It’s just the light sensor is bad so at night it’s almost unusable without shining a light on it(considering the led display upgrade). Quote
KSMooniac Posted October 22 Report Posted October 22 Bevan evaluated mine a couple of years ago for similar issues and ended up replacing the COM board. I'd send it to them for evaluation. 1 Quote

KSMooniac Posted October 22 Report Posted October 22 it was in that ballpark, and they also replaced some or all of the membrane switches too, so it was a bit more. Still far less than G's flat-rate option, though. 1 Quote
ZamF16 Posted October 30 Report Posted October 30 I had a similar issue on my GNS-530. Sent it to Garmin and paid the flat fix fee of $900. It came back and started acting up again a couple months later. Took it to an avionics shop who found a loose connection on the back of the avionics tray. They charged me $50 to troubleshoot and fix the problem. It has worked great since. Frustrated that I assumed there was a problem in the GNS. Not saying that is your problem, but might be worth investigating. Quote

Did some air to air and ATC comms 5/5 reported. I have seen people say before unracking and reracking radios can dissipate built up static electricity. I’m wondering if that is part of it, as we took it out to swap with my mechanics and it sat for 30min or so on the bench. Quote

Reseating the radio can clean the connections and break any oxide buildup. The mere act of removing and replacing it likely fixed it. Quote
