Pictures of Newly Upholstered Seats

Recommended Posts

My bird goes in for a new interior in three weeks. I am looking for pictures of recently upholstered seats.  My 84 201 still has the original leather seats and they are completely done. My bird is a very light blue with two darker color blue stripes. The interior leather is dark blue. We are going with lighter blue and gray leather. I am trying to decide if I want all over blue seats with light gray inserts or all over light gray with blue inserts. If you have pictures of your seats or have comments on the color choice I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks

Curt

Brian Hoover.  He was working out of Joe's shop at Hawk.

Any idea of what the cost breakdown was? My seats are in desperate need of new foam and leather. I’m trying to decide if I want to do all the carpets first or one seat for the price of all the carpets. I’ve gotten quotes from a few auto upholstery shops and an interior shop down in KPGD. One seat basically comes out to 2215, that’s all new foam and diamond stitched inserts, new shaped head rest. I am planning to do nylon carpet, hence the cheaper cost.

OMG!  Over $2000 for ONE seat?!???!

I guess I'm going to live with the 'patina' on mine for a good while longer:D

Several years ago, I redid both seats in my roadster, both door handle / armrests and the center console cover in new leather for a little over 2 AMU. Then came Covid and Bidenflation . . . .

Man, that’s on the lower end too for a lot of places. The more basic of design, the less it’ll be. Depending on material, embroidery the price will go up and down.

Someone with actual upholstery experience needs to weigh in.  Forget real leather, I can't imagine that the amount and cost of the plethora of other covering materials amount to very much money.  So, the price has to be based on labor.  How many hours of work are involved in stripping down ONE seat, fabricating and putting in new foam, and cutting/stitching and installing new coverings for an EXPERIENCED craftsman?

My suspicion is that the pricing is based on what people are willing to pay rather than based on time & materials plus OH.  Not that there is anything wrong with that...other than I'm NOT going to pay that much:D  Prices will drop if others keep their dollars in their wallets!

The price of leather hides is quite expensive these days. Like I said the price will come down depending on material, pattern, stitching etc. to me the only option is real leather, for that great smell and feel. I know vinyl will last way long than leather but then you get no great smell, plus the feel just isn’t identical. But that’s Things are only going to get more expensive and unobtainable in this world. I don’t see anything in aviation getting cheaper. I’ve also gotten quotes of 1000 and 1500 bucks from auto upholstery shops.
