Falcon Man Posted August 8, 2024 Report Posted August 8, 2024 I will be flying my 252 to the Phoenix area for business regularly and am looking for information regarding a GA airport that has decent services for single engine aircraft. Recently I visited the FBO at Gateway, which is closest to my work in Chandler, and was told there is no GA maintenance available at that location. Any information or suggestions regarding this subject are appreciated. Jeff

Considering that I live here, I don't know the rent-a-car situation.
N201MKTurbo Posted August 8, 2024 Report Posted August 8, 2024 Where are you working that gateway is closer than Chandler muni? They are pretty close together. KCHD is closer to most places in Chandler than Gateway. Gateway is a PITA.
ArtVandelay Posted August 8, 2024 Report Posted August 8, 2024 I’ve always gone to Deer Valley, Cutter is the best FBO in my experience (both Phoenix and Colorado Springs), there’s lots of traffic but they have 2 runways.

All true, but it is a 1 hour drive to Chandler in rush hour. When I have to go to DVT I take the plane.
EricJ Posted August 8, 2024 Report Posted August 8, 2024 If Chandler (CHD) is further from where you need to be, then try Falcon Field (FFZ). It's also very GA intensive and friendly. The local CAF museum is there. If you need maintenance there, a friend of mine has a popular shop there, but there are a lot of options. There's an instrument shop there as well. It's busy, but all of the fields around here are. 1
N201MKTurbo Posted August 8, 2024 Report Posted August 8, 2024 So, what do Idaho and Chandler have in common? Semiconductors! All the semiconductor plants are closer to KCHD.

I've got a tie-down there and they're as anti-GA as it gets. Though seeing the planes there is super cool at times. @N201MKTurbo is right. CHD is typically the best one near Gateway area. As busy as it gets, it's not as busy as Falcon.
phxcobraz Posted August 8, 2024 Report Posted August 8, 2024 All the airports EXCEPT IWA are pretty GA friendly with kind controllers and shops on field. IWA is very focused on their airline and military traffic. 1

But, yeah, IWA is bad to even just stop to pick somebody up or have lunch or something. And the restaurant there is really good!
DCarlton Posted August 8, 2024 Report Posted August 8, 2024 I made over 80 trips into Falcon Field (FFZ) for work several years ago back when Tango One was still in operation. I still miss Samantha and her FBO. Avis used to have cars on site. There are probably good alternatives there now too though with rentals through Enterprise.

Yea I would probably not advise parking at SDL either, especially with DVT so close. Thankfully we have the same good restaurant/brewery at DVT now. Last time I landed at IWA to drop off my wife for a flight I got 25gal gas and still had to pay a handling fee. I was only there for 15min and didn't even flush their toilets. 1
