OK

I've read through what I can find on the topic of engine alignment and I did see mention of a link from Don Maxwell on the subject.

Maxwell's link won't open.

I'm looking for information on engine alignment to airframe.

We purchased an ARI cowl closure and before we begin the installation would like to positively locate the engine/ spinner in its designed location

Do we replace the engine isolators?

Have they been replaced before and shims where missed or installed incorrectly?

I know there is a process to level the airframe.

There must be information available on engine angle to airframe that can be verified?

You have to go to the Wayback Machine to get the articles, and, unfortunately, the images are missing.   It does reference a MAPA Log article from June 2001, so if somebody has that maybe they can scan it for the images.

Ok the article bases alignment on the cowl opening to spinner, is there any information that uses the engine alignment based on the fuselage?

I'm coming from the homebuilt aircraft world where when building we always used the aircraft fuselage to properly align the engine and prop.

Ok

looks like the only way to determine if the engine is shimmed correctly in the Mooney is to line the spinner up with the cowl???

Not the most accurate way for a 60 year old plane!
