Nstarbf Posted January 22, 2024 Report Posted January 22, 2024 Have been told by the shop that I need a new starter. Part number MZ-4222 any suggestions as to go the rebuilt route or new route? and suggestions as to who to do the rebuild or which manufacturer go with? have been told that a prior owner had issues with a sky-tech. Thanks in advance Quote
Fritz1 Posted January 22, 2024 Report Posted January 22, 2024 I have a skytec lightweight starter on my Bravo that is not rebuildable, Aircraft Accessories of Oklahoma, Sheridan Ave has done mags, alternators and a turbo wastegate for me, call them to see if your starter is rebuildable, if yes they will rebuild it as good or better than new or may have an exchange in stock 1 Quote
RobertGary1 Posted January 23, 2024 Report Posted January 23, 2024 They fixed the skytech. I had the original type and had issues but they updated it about 7 years ago and is now flawless Quote

Thanks in advance I likely need one as well. We don’t have it all the way apart yet to see, but the 2 halves of the starter are loose and rubbing each other. My pkane is in annual and my mechanic is dropping the lower cowl today to get a better look. Looking at skytec website, it doesn’t seem that there’s even an option for rebuilding them now. Only exchange for new at very high prices… maybe someone knows where they can be rebuilt? Quote

Capital guys doing capitalist things. 1 Quote
kerry Posted January 23, 2024 Report Posted January 23, 2024 I vote for B&C. It's the most durable of all the options. The negative I hear about it is if you have kick back it could damage your engine. I've never had my engine kick back, but I'm happy with it. Install was very easy. 2 Quote
