Map page setup / configuration for Garmin 2" navigator's or like.

I have always have had issues with my L3 NGT9000+ installation for about the last  6 to 7 years and finally got tried of my Ipad traffic randomly becoming disconnected and  TAS message left over from the original installer installation who orphaned me. As a professional instrument student, Should the day happen when I actually do take my instrument check ride .... I don't have go through explanation with the DPE why the NGT9000 has many error messages and why I have not address them, also I had several incidences on the NGT9000 while on the go around my finger hit the Altitude button putting effectively turn off my mode C reporting causing alarm with ATC, both are  a story for another day.

I am curious to know what people have configured as fields on their Garmin navigators. I have  a GNC255 (NAV/COM) ,GNC355 (GPS/COM) recently removed the L3 NGT9000 in lieu of a GNX375 (GPS/Transponder) , 2 G5's and GFC500 A/P. One of my reasoning is adding another navigator gives me additional 4 fields to configure. So I didn't have reconfigure in flight. Maybe 8 fields is over kill:unsure: might as well have functional panel space.

Curious to know people's rational as to what fields/screen configuration(s) they have chosen and what they think are the most relevant for IFR training versus in practical world instrument flying? I have been looking at people's map page setup / configurations to get a better idea.

Below is what I have configured. "Next leg on route" = Route leg's  page.

I don't remember the "Next leg on route" so I'm going to guess that's the From, To and Next Waypoint.  Regardless, you have it in the Lower Right and the Distance (DIS) in the Upper Left.  Personally I'd move one or the other so they are on the same side of the screen.

I also don't see much difference in the ETE and ETE to Dest.  Pick whichever one you want.  (I'd prob. go with ETE to Dest.)

You may have this info somewhere else, but if not, Wind Speed and Direction (Wind) can come in handy when you're hand flying.

There are probably as many variations  as there are options. With one of the mini-boxes, I'd be flying with the flight plan page as my default. It's my default page in most units. My iPad has a much better moving map and, especially on approach, I want those sequencing courses, distances and times.

Yes Pete you are correct poor choice of words on my part. "Next leg on route" = Flight Plan - From/To/Next

I am finding I like having one display on the traffic screen.  On the map screens it is easy to lose traffic in the clutter.

I have to look to see what fields I have.  I know one is ETA at destination.  A lot of things I might put on the nav are on my Aspen, like name, distance and time to next waypoint.

I think this is why I like flying with other people and seeing how they do things. Seems like I see a new “trick” all the time.
I have more screens so can easily have traffic in one, terrain on another, flight plan or weather, and I usually have the GTN650 on default nav page.

Regarding the user menus I typically have on my GTN (albeit 750), I use VSR (vertical speed required) and Time to ToD in the top two to help plan descents. Then I usually have procedure page on bottom left and distance and bearing to destination on the bottom right. For typical VFR flights and approaches around the local area this makes things pretty easy. For IFR flights I spend more time on weather page, flight plan page, and get most routine data from default nav page on the 650.

I have a GMA35 audio panel with Telligence and that allows you to “say” or “show” a lot of info transiently when I need it. When you “show…” it transiently shows it in the area of the nav freqs on the top right of the 750…not sure if this is the same with using the 650 or any of the other garmin 2” nav units?

It's one of the advantages of instructing and participating in forums. I get to see and learn all sorts of things.

Sometimes we trade. I have a G1000 client who keeps the Nearest window open on his PFD during approaches - it lets him always see the direct distance to the landing runway. Great for those traffic calls that VFR pilots will understand. I started using it and he started using my keep-the-flight-plan open thing.

I also like having a dedicated Traffic screen.  For me it's my GI275 on the Traffic page when in VMC (Backup AI in IMC).

And on my GNC355 (#2 Nav/Comm for me) I often put it on the Terrain page in IMC or at Night.
