Hank Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 They are still trying to convince me that a 225 HP Debonair burns the same fuel per trip as a 201. When I showed them the 7.3 GPH and 149 knot trend sheet from our files (20 NMPG) there was a shattering sound of silence. FWIW there are tons of posts that a Deb is a 150 KT, 12 GPH machine. FWIW if gas was 2$ a galllon I would have a Beech too. Quote

aviatoreb Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 Quote: JimR Those PA-30's with a pair of IO320s are pretty nice. The guy in the hangar right next to me had a M20C last year and after a gear collapse, landed himself in a PA-30. He burns 16gph total at 170TAS. Not too shabby. And he claims 1800fpm initial climb rate. I wonder what his climb rate is with one engine out with those little engines. When I asked him that, he said it is better than my airplanes climb rate with one engine out. And a former Mooney owner he was too. How quickly he has turned! Quote
DaV8or Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 Quote: aviatoreb It is a shame that piper gave up the commanches after that flood and went with the cherokee/senecas. The commanches are much nicer airplanes. I am sure if that line had continued until today that it would be a super airplane. Quote
mjc Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 In the RV vs. Mooney spped debate, the answer is: it depends. For me, the Mooney would be faster. That's because I usually have two passengers. With the Mooney, I put them in the plane and fly to the destination. When we're done, the three of us fly home. In the RV I have to load one passenger, fly to the destination, drop off the passenger, fly back home, and fly to the destination again with the other passenger. There's a plane for every mission, such as carrying four people at a reasonable speed for a reasonable cost. 1 Quote
