carusoam Posted April 10, 2023 Report Posted April 10, 2023 There is probably a particular size foot… with their heals on the floor… Their toes are accidentally hitting the brakes… when wearing their favorite work shoes… My Herman Survivors would do this to my size 11 feet… Anyone use a good cowboy boot for Mooney flying? Best regards… -a- Quote

MS always amazes! It’s not a problem for everyone, but if you wore size 15 gunboats, you’d understand. Quote
hammdo Posted April 11, 2023 Report Posted April 11, 2023 Fore those who don’t want toe shoes, these work well also (like the Vibrams)… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08J7YXL3T?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1&psc=1 Still separates the toes but not like the 5 toe ones… -Don Quote

Outbreak Posted April 13, 2023 Report Posted April 13, 2023 My go-to since I separated from the Air Force has been good old Chuck Taylors. Thin soles, very little bulk to the entire shoe, and minimal tread. I used to notice aggressive tread on combat boots would grab some rudder pedals, but the Chucks don't have enough tread to do that. If I have to look a little nicer, I have a pair of Danner chukka boots with similar characteristics, but full leather, polishable, etc. Quote

I used Piloti's on track for a long time, and they made aviator's shoes, too, for a while, but it looks like they're back to marketing everything as driving shoes. Some applications (like racing) make sense to have specific shoes, but I don't see it for flying. Anything comfy works for me, but even if I'm flying somewhere to hike and wearing hiking boots or something I've never noticed it affecting flying. 1 Quote
